The owner of the Hotel where we were staying used this pub as a landmark when giving us directions.
We, on the other hand, were hungry, and a little thirsty when we happened upon it. So we decided to give it a go.
We didn't regret it. We received a warm welcome from the landlord and his staff, a couple of delicious local brews, and one of the best pub meals I've had in a long time.
No pretensions, no fancy works of art set on a plate. Just good honest wholesome food.
My wife went for the omlette served with freshly cooked grease free chips. Lovely.
I had a ploughmans lunch, and was not dissappointed. Fresh salad, cheese and ham. With a really nice chutney. We were unlucky not to get a seat on the terrace overlooking the canal, but, the landlord was kind enough to allow us to leave our car in his car park while we walked down and over the aquaduct to work off our lunch.
If you're in the area and have time, do yourself a favour, and give this pub a visit. You wont regret it. read more
