The Giler Arms is a large public house, with a spacious car park, with an attached Tent and Caravan…read moresite. Inside is a friendly bar area, with an attached a pool room, always a good sign. On this evening though we were looking for a good meal and we were not disappointed. Inside the huge lounge area, with an attached conservatory of equal size, was a good range or tables for different sized parties. We housed ourselves in the lounge next to the well stocked bar, which stocked Bathams, which judging from the positive responses of the real ale drinkers that came in was a good pint! Menu wise, it was pretty standard fare - burgers, steaks, fish pies, pizzas etc. They were in transition when we went in from an old to a new menu, that was causing some confusion. We eventually settled on a homemade burger and barbecue chicken, good wholesome dishes, nothing mind blowing, but just good honest food, with an accompanying fresh salad.
Desserts wise, no menu and only a choice of three - lime and lemon cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding and Belgian waffles with maple syrup. Normally there would be no contest, sticky toffee pudding every time, but on the barman's recommendation I had the Belgian waffle - a great choice and a substantially sized portion. On the whole a good meal, just what we needed. The Giler Arms also has a coarse fishing lake, with an accompanying nature reserve, which can be viewed from a large terrace. It looked lovely but it was little cool on the night we visited to try it out.
