Since support wasn't available at the time, a second appointment had to be scheduled. When the technician returned, additional troubleshooting was done, including time spent consulting with technical support. A diagnosis was eventually provided, but there was no clear or practical repair path presented. Instead, I was advised that replacing the furnace would likely be the best option. My main concern is that I was charged over $600 for the service calls and ultimately ended up in essentially the same position I started in: knowing the furnace had a problem, but without a repair solution. When a company charges by the hour, there needs to be trust that the time spent is moving efficiently toward a resolution. What I found particularly frustrating is that obtaining a quote for a furnace replacement is typically free. After spending more than $600, the outcome was a recommendation to replace the unit, which made the value of the repair visits difficult to justify. I found them to be on time, accurate, very fair price wise and ultimately highly trustworthy, along with being good people. They won't sell you something you don't need, but also won't just band aid a solution. They will recommend what is necessary to do now with an eye down the road as to what will be your best choice long term. In our case, they could have replaced the blower and other parts on the old furnace for about half the price of a new one (which comes with a 10 year warranty), so the decision was easy to replace the entire unit. Even after the judge ordered them to pay for all the damage they caused, in addition to refunding my money, Ashton refused to obey the court order! The courts then had to issue a WARRANT for arrest to force them to pay! DO NOT HIRE ASHTON! I made the unfortunate mistake of hiring Ashton to replace a leaking faucet and they quoted me $1900. Instead of simply installing a new faucet as we had agreed, two plumbers from Ashton showed up and unnecessarily broke my existing tiles, damaged and removed the concrete around the pipes creating an enormous hole in my shower wall, replaced my old pipes, and then installed new pipes for the faucet several inches off center with no concrete. They then wanted $3600, insisting that I now had to pay $1500 for garbage disposal. Ashton later admitted they were aware the pipes were not centered and kept quiet hoping I would not notice. After Ashton finally straightened out the pipes, I had to hire someone to temporarily attach tiles to a non-existing wall. Ashton then sent the original plumber to incorrectly attach the new faucet! I wrote a letter to David Fowler, the service manager at Ashton, as well as to the President and Vice President. David said he would send a plumber to attach the fixture properly, but nobody ever showed up. I ended up having to hire a different plumber to finish the job. All I wanted was a replacement for my leaky bathtub faucet and ended up with a complete nightmare! The judge stated that I did not sue them for enough money!
