I participated in adult Learn to Row (LTR) evening courses 1 and 2, each meeting twice a week for one month. Our group started with virtually zero experience and ended with each of us confident with all the procedures necessary to row safely and effectively on a novice competitive team or independently. The courses cover basic techniques for both skulling (two oars per person) and sweeping (one oar per person) and personalized training is provided to each individual to assure proper form. The coaches here (Elle, Bronyn, Matt, and Jack) are truly committed to helping every rower unlock their potential and build skills in power, technique, ratio and cardio endurance. There was a wide range of ages represented, and being younger I wanted to get a great workout with every class. The coaches were very accommodating and assured that all of us were able to get the most out of three hours on the lake every night. The boathouse is situated at the north end of the lake, where there is generally not much interference from motorboats (note that I took the evening class from 6:30-9:00PM, but have heard that the situation is even better early in the morning). Evening classes were a fantastic way to unwind after work. I am very much looking forward to returning to Sammamish Rowing Association next Spring to join in with the Novice Sweeping team. First, the quality of the ingredients they shipped to me was amazing, from a spiced honey ginger syrup and special bitters blend to candied ginger and dehydrated orange garnishes. We made three bourbon drinks (Woodford Reserve, also included), led by a mixologist from the Seattle area. I especially liked the Holiday in Louisville, which was a twist on a Moscow mule, and the spiced old fashioned. The webcast was well produced, with a couple of folks from our company co-hosting with the mixologist. If you're planning a corporate event and have remote team members, I highly recommend these virtual experiences!

Overall Leavenworth was well worth the trip. Expectations were exceeded! We enjoyed a beautiful snowy drive with several Christmas movies & Trivia on both ways. The bus was surprisingly filled with people who seemed to be 25+ (a perk for us late 20's) but it would still be enjoyable for kids/teens. We left the SLU around 10am and arrived by 1pm, had time to explore shops and eat two meals, then got on the bus by 6pm and arrive by 8:15pm! It even snowed during our time there which made it extra memorable. Food and drink is super reasonably priced there, compared to Seattle at least. The host was entertaining and friendly. Only knocked off one star for the in-bus bathroom - it unfortunately wasn't the cleanest as was out of toilet paper and hand sanitizer - yikes! They make these little stops along the river and tell you about the area. Blair the owner is a saint and will make sure your time on the river is the best that is possible. The Guides: James Michael is the best looking man in a wetsuit that ever lived, and will keep you safe. Robin is a motivator and is good with people that are meek or first timers. He gave us a quick lesson and set us up with the paddles and off we go. The kids went off without any problem, I had to kneel for a few mins before I can stand up. As long as you are paddling, it is not hard to stand up. You can see the beautiful skyline and lovely area around the Juanita reserve area. The water was clean and clear. We had so much fun! It was a wonderful way to enjoy the last bit of summer. We will be back next year.

Check in took a bit, there was a long line, and then we had to wait around 15 minutes for the staff to bring out our paddleboards from the boathouse to the launch spot (which of course ate into our 1 hour rental). I believe all of this could have been avoided if we booked ahead! Will definitely be back again next summer, because the spot and the gear is amazing, just hoping the service gets a bit better :)

The spread even accommodated my wife's dietary restrictions. We also had the opportunity to swim around in a crystal-clear pool of water that was behind the rock bar. You could go with the mega-sized outfit that probably gets more hits on Google, but I've dealt with those companies. They tend to rush people in and out, and see their operation as more of an amusement park. With Chinook, Shane and Andrea love what they do, and have decades of experience on the river. We are very luck in the Seattle area to have NWOC! I just learned about a Meetup group that does a monthly paddle from NWOC combined with having Swedish pancakes at the nearby (about 4 blocks away) Swedish center. Apparently this happens the first Sunday of each month. Several of us from PTCC plan to try that out.

What's great is that if you're out on the water a little longer than planned, you just get charged for the extra amount of time (rounded to the 15min interval). So if you come back in 1 hour and 15 minutes, you get charged for that exact time vs. 2 hours. Staff was friendly and helpful with getting people onto the kayaks/boards safely with life jackets and instructions on how to paddle. I think one extra tip that would be good to know is just pointers on how to find the entrance when we come back since we did get a bit lost, the lake is huge! There are also cubbies to store your personal belongings and changing rooms/restroom. Overall I would recommend and come back.

From the beginning of the journey, Jesse immediately resorted to yelling, swearing at, and belittling our group of 8, which made the group extremely anxious and on edge. This was a cake walk considering Jesse put the entire group in danger by continuing to guide the raft into rocks and forcing group members of a heavier weight to sit on one side of the raft. Needless to say, the boat tipped and one of the members nearly drowned due to his (Jesse) negligence, to which Jesse continued to make jokes about "waivers". Please do not make the same mistake our group did, and request another guide.
