I had tried troubleshooting it myself and initially thought it might be a relatively simple clog, but it became pretty clear that it needed a professional. Iain thoroughly snaked the line and got everything flowing properly again. While he was working, he also pointed out that the plumbing under our kitchen sink had a lot of smaller sections, fittings, and connections that could be simplified to minimize future issues. What I really appreciated was that it never felt like an upsell. He mentioned it simply as something I might want to consider in the future. I was actually the one who asked whether he could just take care of it while he was already there. He even hesitated because he wasn't sure he had all the necessary parts on the truck, but checked and was able to get it done. The new setup under the sink looks dramatically cleaner, simpler, and stronger. Some of the old fittings were pretty finicky, so I'm especially glad I didn't continue trying to tackle it myself. Iain and Steve spent about three hours between clearing the drain, rebuilding the piping, and making sure everything was working correctly. The pricing was also very reasonable, and Iain actually reduced the original drain-cleaning charge after I added the additional work without me even asking. After stabilizing everything by shutting off the water and gas, I came onto Yelp to look for highly rated companies with 24/7 service. I wasn't aware that plumbers don't sleep, the first company I called sent a technician out the same night. After I received the quote I uploaded it to an AI that told me that it was a good solution but significantly more expensive than I should be paying. I decided I would also call a highly rated company that specialized in water heaters, and the AI listed JG Water Heaters as well as a couple of others I left a message for JG and the owner called me back quickly. We spent about 15 minutes on the phone talking about the solution, the prices, the options, the risks, etc. His verbal quotes were significantly lower than the other company, and he could send a technician out first thing in the morning. The information that I uploaded to the AI resulted in a thumbs up and a couple clarifying questions, but seeing as though I was in the middle of a water emergency I wasn't going to go out and get the normal 4 to 5 quotes for work The technician arrived precisely on time the next morning, examined the entire situation and determined that I had two really good options. A plug-in place replacement 50 gallon tank, or to go tankless. The outlets, gas lines, vents, etc. were all perfect for tankless and they gave me a competitive quote. I decided I did not want to go through flooding again and decided to spend the extra money on the tankless system. Over the next 4 to 5 hours the technician worked diligently installing the system, and he wasn't even bothered by my occasional visits and questions. At one point the owner came out to drop off some equipment and I got to meet him in person. After the install was complete we went through the house to make sure everything was working properly, and the technician hauled away the old hot water heater and cleaned up after himself. My adult son took the first shower with the New system and said it was perfect. No issues at all, although I had to turn up the temperature a little bit to what we were used to. I highly recommend JG Water Heaters. Great people, super fast response, and what seems like a reasonable price. I'd be more confident if I got more quotes, but AI is pretty good at evaluating proposals and they said this was a good one. I have confidence that if anything goes wrong they would come out in a heartbeat to take care of it. Handyman replaced galvanized to abs so I called PP back to just fix the cast iron they left. They want $3600 just to fix what they should have done (get rid of the cast iron part while the slab was cut). Michael DiSilva did the actual work in this area himself, because his employee would not! Now I'm gonna need to re-cut slab and the tile is no longer available at Dal Tile! (I'm at Dal Tile now). What a mess! Plus their schedule m copper is already showing green spots so I have to re-pipe all their work in three baths and kitchen!
