Understand, our system had NEVER been serviced since it was installed decades ago. After talking with the people in the store, I tried to replace the resin bed myself. With no skills of this kind, I pestered the employees over and over again before I made the exchange for a new resin bed. They were fully interested in solving my problem and took a model system apart in front of me several times before I had the courage to try it on my own at home. Through the many demonstrations, the team members never once let me see any sign of disgust or aggravation with my incompetence. I don't know how they kept from rolling their eyes. I eventually scheduled a service call due to a possible problem with the replaced resin bed. Eventually, we had to have a second service call before the problem was corrected. After all of that, I received a call from Jon, the Greenwood store manager, the morning after the system was fixed. The technician that had been at our house the day before had explained that the need for the service call was possibly due to a fault with the replacement resin bed. The company is not charging us for the service calls. This is not the kind of service that I am used to seeing in our world any longer. This company is in the business of making happy customers. I love my water!

The tech was knowable, efficient, and courteous. We purchased a unit ourselves and he was got everything set up and installed properly. Because he was unfamiliar with the product we bought he called into the office and the sales manner and the owner came out immediately to ensure everything was perfect and to get our hot water heater flowing. They took the time to go over everything and explain how the system worked, what to expect, how to change settings, etc. All of that and they were extremely reasonably priced! Some rep named Bobby came over and went through an elaborate explanation of the "high-tech" methods they used to find a leak. So he had me sign a form that he stated was a simple explanation of what their services offered and that I would use their services if my insurance company agreed with the estimate. He then brought in a small device that he said was state-of-the-art in detecting leaks. He put on a pair of headphones and used a suction cup-type device to listen for a leak. Shortly, he stated he found the problem. It was a leak under the slab and he offered me to listen. I told him whatever, it sounded like a leak, but I'm no expert! He then gave me a vague invoice for $3000! I told him this was going to be submitted to an insurance company that required services to be thoroughly explained. He came back with another invoice that wasn't really that much better in explaining why the services were that much. I told him I would contact them when I got in touch with the insurance adjuster. He then stood up over me and stated he couldn't leave my home without collecting $550 for the services rendered in finding the leak. I told him he never mentioned those fees to me and he continued to state he couldn't leave until he got the money. Now imagine, someone in your living room threatening not to leave unless they get some money! It was really getting ready to get nasty until we got a supervisor on the phone who apparently advised him to leave and told me to contact them when I was ready to get the work done. Later I found out the leak was actually coming from a downstairs toilet with a leaking tank that was oozing under the flooring. So then I contacted Pristine the next day to cancel the contract per Indiana law. The company has been harassing me ever since still trying to say I owe them $550 for a service that was a fraudulent attempt to extort money for a service that wasn't even correct! This was the worst nightmare that I have ever encountered with a company. I shared it so you won't have to endure what I did. I believe that high-pressure tactics like this should be against the law!

Early the next morning, I had a message from Adam B. Once I got to work, I returned the call and quickly described my issue and what I believed it to be. The first available appointment wasn't until Monday (it wasn't urgent, so I wasn't worried about going the weekend). I got my timeframe. I had a couple other appointments that day, so I ended up taking the day off so I could easily be available. I immediately liked that they told me who would be arriving - AND that was who arrived. I also liked that they use a customer portal that allows you to have some security if you pay online or to review your records. Christian arrived (there was one other person with him). It took him a couple minutes to diagnose the issue he believed it to be, and it took him not a lot longer to determine that diagnosis correct. He quoted the price, I agreed, and he got to work. After finishing the work, he determined the original issue I'd believed it to be wasn't quite needing to be addressed (but will be in the near future). We discussed options, including ways I could save a bit. Christian was personable and explained things in a way I could understand. The issue was likely caused by me, but he managed to avoid using the word "idiot" at any point. The repair was done in a timely manner. The price ended up being a bit lower than quoted. I appreciated his honesty as he very easily could have pointed me toward a repair not needing done yet. It also became obvious the last person I'd used had really only done half the job. Everything has worked beautifully since Christian finished. There are likely a couple more projects I'll tackle in the near future, and I won't hesitate to return to Grateful Plumber. The housecall was $59, but that was credited toward the repair once I decided to have them do the work. Friendly employees. Good follow-through. Fair pricing. Quality work. Problem solved. Despite my repeated statements of: "I don't need you to diagnosis anything. I have no hot water and water is leaking from the tank. I want to you to replace it." Everyone still needed to charge the a Dx fee. So, I had Isley come out and replace the hot water tank, and they keep coming back time and time again. The State brand of water heater they install keeps leaking, albeit under warranty and I keep getting the units replacement for free; however, I do have to pay for labor at a salty $500. The two plumbers aren't on site an hour. Prior to arrival, I receive an email with the plumber's photo and name and a follow up call with an ETA too. I feel they are qualified and competent and safe enough that I would leave my wife home alone when here. Yes, they have had to come back due to a leak but, hey, I makes mistakes too. They wear protective face masks and shoe coverings and lay a thick canvas tarp on my hardwoods before removing the old water heater. While State may go out of business replacing these units under warranty, Isley and Sons will be around for generations to come. When my current replacement fails, I am going to find the water heater I want, and then find someone to install, if I simply don't do it myself. Getting the old one out of the basement will be the tax though.
