On a recent trip to Aspen we were celebrating a birthday in our group and I took it upon myself to order the cake. I came across d'Elissious through a friend who lives in Aspen. I visited there website and left a message requesting a cake for 4 days later. I got a call back and ordered a 6 inch golden velvet cake. The lady was very friendly and delivered the cake to our hotel for a small delivery charge. It was simply done in white with a "Happy Birthday" inscription. BUT what I really want to tell you about, and the whole world about is just how amazing this cake tasted. Holy Cake Gods! This was the BEST cake I have ever had. It was a sour cream cake with cream cheese frosting. The whole group agreed that this cake was straight from the heavens. It was so good in fact, that I dragged the left over cake all the way back to LA. On the plane. Through security. Totally worth it. I finished the entire thing. She will ship but it's super pricey... We hired the Rolling Fork in August of 2022 for our July 2023 wedding. We had a charcuterie board…read morespread, 2 apps, a family style salad, entrees, late night mac and cheese, and mini pies. It came out to around $66/person before tax, gratuity, and truck fee. While the starters, salad, and entrees were delicious, the mac and cheese was served ice cold (some guests actually asked me if it was meant to be cold?) and the pies were just not good. We ended up having 50 of the 80 leftover, so I think that tells you a lot, and I took one bite and threw mine away unfortunately. It was 80% crust, which is usually a great thing, but this was just not good crust, and the filling was bland. Anyways, the reason for the low review is due to their poor communication. I had to follow up with Aaron constantly to get anything he had promised. A contract we talked about getting a week later was received 2.5 months later (and I had to give him all my notes from our call because he'd forgotten), he literally refused to answer questions in the weeks leading up to the wedding (my coordinator and I asked him about reducing counts and labeling items on the board 4 times, he didn't directly answer these questions until he sent our final bill), and he just didn't seem to care at all. (Btw, the items on the board were NOT labeled) After the call, we were so excited and he had said we'd "discuss more things", like our side choices and ways to decrease the cost, but we never had an opportunity. We never got a chance to choose another side option, to discuss with him whether kids should get a portion of the apps, and he just never responded to anything. I felt like I had to walk on eggshells, because after telling him I was uncomfortable not having a contract 1.5 months after he told me he'd have a contract for us, he sent me screenshots of our previous emails saying we had plenty "in writing". It was a huge nightmare for it being 25% of our budget. I felt like I was just supposed to trust that this guy was going to show up. If it weren't for my coordinator who'd worked with them before and was confident they'd show up, I would have found an alternative, that's how poor his communication was. I had nightmares that we'd have no food because they found a more lucrative wedding to cater. My coordinator said this is par for the course for them, that Aaron is known to not be great at communicating but that he does show up. I completely understand being busy, but they need to hire a virtual assistant or something. Their contracts, invoicing, payment methods, and communication are sloppy and unprofessional- something easily fixed with a bit of help. We spent a ton of money on catering and I have a really sour taste in my mouth from this vendor, it truly felt like they didn't care at all and we were just an annoying event they had to do. I would definitely eat another fried chicken sammy from their truck at a festival, but I wouldn't hire them to cater another event.
