After over 24 hours of travel, we dropped off our luggage and Uber'd over here. If you're visiting Rio for the first time, make sure you double your expected travel time to account for traffic and delays with getting assigned a driver. What a whirlwhird to start our trip. Prepare for a journey up windy streets and enjoy the street art and neighborhoods along the way. We had no idea when we got there we would arrive 20 minutes before closing, yet we still were met at the door and ushered into a magical treehouse with 360 views of the city. We were promptly seated and ordered the main course seafood catch of the day and another prawn dish with coconut rice. Both the dishes were fresh and tasted great. My friends and I went straight to Aprazivel from GIG and it was a perfect way to start off our stay in Rio. The restaurant is perched in a high up part of the Sta. Teresa neighborhood and there's not much else around it so it's probably best to taxi/Uber up. The ambiance is very nice. Despite being an open air restaurant it didn't get too hot because there's plenty of shade. It was also nice that they were able to hold our luggage in their office so we didn't have to keep it at our table. The view is decent, but there are definitely better restaurant views in Rio. We got paid de queijo with sausage for the table and it was served with honey mustard. It was good, but I found it to only be marginally better than the ubiquitous pao around Rio. Probably wouldn't get it again considering the price. I ordered Minais Gerais pork loin served with fried polenta, pineapple chutney, and topped with fried kale(?). Everything was delicious. The pork was seasoned well and cooked to perfection. It was so tender it basically fell into my fork. The pineapple chutney complemented the salty and savory flavors of the pork very well. The fried kale and polenta brought a satisfying crunch to the dish. I'd definitely get it again. My friend ordered the Octopus Carnaval and it really wowed me. I feel like octopus is easy to overcook but this dish was perfect. Just the right amount of chew and the way it was seasoned didn't overpower the taste of the octopus. I think this was my favorite bite at Aprazivel. I tried my cousin's chicken and rice dish and enjoyed it. My least favorite of the 3 entrees, but it was still very good. From the location, high on the hill in Santa Teresa to the semi-secluded style of the place, immensely inviting, excellent service, with a simple yet complex menu of food to choose from. Perhaps you may try the heart of palm, mind you it was cut from the tree (palmeira), or burrata for starters, then move on to the Tropical Fish (fish of the day), Carnival Octopus and later Banana Santa Teresa or Guava Cheesecake. Amazing food and the views are unmatched. I got a table right by the ledge overlooking Santa Theresa. I went for an early dinner/late lunch and had no problem getting a table. For dinner it is very crowded. I would always make a reservation here, even for lunch just in case. The acai guacamole was very fresh. It is not sweet at all. Tastes like regular guacamole with a tad a of a twist. Recommend trying. The moquequinha de rio absolutely amazing and really enjoyed. Did not care for the yellow crunchy pieces that came with it. Had no room for dessert but will be trying this place again soon. One thing I will note, servers could be better. Some were attentive, some were not. Had to ask twice for more water. My only regret is I didn't realize they close at 5pm on Sundays and they but my ceviche in the same Togo box as my plantains and it made them soggy! Our reservation was at 4, but didn't arrive until almost 430p because of weather and traffic. The kitchen closed at 445, and they let us know that when I told them I would be late via WhatsApp, but we were rushed. I can't even be mad, but sheesh. Like I said had I known they closed at 5pm. (It wasn't clear on their site) I would have booked earlier or for another day. I would certainly come back here and explore the restaurant more. It's so many cute little areas inside. Food: We started off with the ceviche. It was amazing. We had to order more plantain chips though. When they came they were made to order, crispy and delicious!! I just hate when they boxed up the remaining ceviche to go they put it in the same box as my plantains and it made them SOGGY! Who does that?! Very disappointed! I was looking forward to eating it later. I ended up just throwing it away! For main entrees, I had a tropical fish and my boyfriend had the shrimp rice. Delicious! Three stars but still worth a visit. The view is amazing and the place has a rainforest vibe. I love hearts of palm, but had never had it any other way then out of a jar or can . Here, it comes roasted in the palm tree and is cut table side served with a tasty pesto. It had a flavor similar to sweet corn and a fantastic crunchy texture. Super cool presentation and worth the visit alone for me. The cheese bread with sausage was simple but tasty. If this was a bar snack back home I'd be very satisfied. My fish stew was mild flavored and served with Tabasco, I asked for some local chilies which were much better. The chicken rice was much more flavorful. So much of what happens at Aprazivel should be textbook of what a restaurant should be anywhere in the world. A proud menu that features both the chef/owner's vision, as well as a deep knowledge of traditional dishes that delight both local and international palates could be made into a blueprint for a successful, sustainable restaurant. Add those components to a privileged setting high up on the hills of Santa Teresa, and you've got a winning formula. Starting with the cocktails, there were a ton of options just for a caipirinha beyond the usual lime and strawberry. I drank a cashew one which might surprise many people from outside the tropics to learn that cashews actually come from a fruit that looks like a long apple but has the flesh of a plum. It makes one hell of a fruit-based drink. To get things going, we started things off with an assortment of sausage and cheese empanadas made in the Minas Gerais tradition. Each type came in a different shape to so you could tell them apart, but the dough was so thin and delicate you could see the ingredients right through the delicious, brittle crust. For the main event, I went for a "Carioca" rice with shrimp. In the future, I'm going to steal unapologetically this concept of presenting jumbo shrimp within the rice and then crown it with gorgeous, fat langoustine on top. It was savory and balanced by the chlorophyllic presence of broccoli. My dining companion opted by a modernized version of moqueca de peixe that was presented in all its unctuous, seafood-y, dende goodness. For a sweet note, we had an assortment of doces mineiros where each element -- candied orange slivers, doce de leite and guava membrillo -- paired with a young parmesan-like cheese. As a contrast, we also had a tapioca couscous that was sweetened with shredded coconut. It is our DO NOT MISS restaurant when friends or family visit....or if we just want a delicious meal with those stunning views of downtown Rio and the Guanabara bay! The food is wonderful. We generally get the grilled artichoke (Palmito Assado); which is so unique and delicious. Though, truth be told, all the dishes here from appetizer to main to desert are delicious and unique. Getting to Aprazível can be tricky, our Uber got a little stuck going up the hill with tons of people on the road etc. Don't forget to make a reservation and try to get there early for dinner 7-8pm so you don't leave super late that way it's easier to get an Uber/taxi The views are amazing, we got very lucky and sat on prob the best seat in the house, the place is a little pricey but fortunately the food was good and the staff is super nice. Wow. Driving up Santa Teresa hilly roads got me worried for a second but was worth the winding roads for the marvelous views at the top! Once we sat down at our table, it took a little bit of time to get a waiter to come serve us. After 15 minutes we finally caught someone's attention and we ordered the açaí capirinha cocktail. The cocktail went down smoothly and I wished I had tried lore of their drinks, they all sounded so good! We got the roasted palm of heart for appetizer and it came out in an actually piece of palm. Was a huge serving and sooo delicious with the green sauce that it came with. We ordered the chicken risotto and tropical fish for entrees and they both were excellent, though I did like the chicken risotto more. Aprazivel has a reputation for being romantic and whimsical. In the time of Covid, I could tell that some of this had been diminished, but I still recommend this place. Be prepared, it is a bit pricey, the dishes are small, and everything is a reimagined or deconstructed version of something popular. The only downside to Aprazivel is that it is NOT easy to get to. There is no public transit to get there. The Santa Teresa neighborhood is SUPER hilly and each road winds around the terrain. Even our uber couldn't make it. So I had to walk the last quarter-mile in heels and drizzling rain. The food was worth it. Santa Teresa is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Rio, and it's fitting that Aprazivel is here. You can access this place via the rondobus, but you're still in for a very uphill hike, so I recommend taxi or uber. When you arrive, you descend steep stairs, and you already get a glimpse of all the different nooks and crannies of the restaurant. Each level has it's own dining area and lounge, and they are all equally beautiful. The views are beautiful as a lot of Yelpers mention. I ordered the pao de queijo (I know), caju caipirinha, salad, and moqueca. The caipirinha was just okay--it was either the cachaca used or the lack of muddling of caju, but the caipirinha tasted like petroleum. The pao de queijo were large and perfect texture, I LOVED the salad and its simplicity, and the moqueca was exactly what I was craving. I also loved the malaguets sauce they offered on the side. It was plenty spicy, but I heaped it on. Plus points for providing insect repellent. I don't mind the slow service, but it seems like it puts others off. If you're on a schedule or in a rush, Santa Teresa restaurants are probably not the best place. read more

High end and unique restaurant in the Santa Teresa neighborhood. Nice views over a side of the city the typical tourist doesn't see- you're overlooking the Centro area, not Sugarloaf or the beaches in Copa or Ipanema. From our seats you could see the Sambadrome. It's a fairly steep car drive up to get here. Our uber driver stopped a couple of times for us to take pics. One of the overlooks is right next to a favela and it does have a bit of a seedier feel than some other Rio areas, but we were there in broad daylight and never felt unsafe. We followed the lunch up with an Uber over to Lapa and the Selaron stairs which aren't terribly far away. The restaurant was one of the pricier spots we went yet everything we ordered was delicious. The place is located in Center City at the top of a mountain. It has a tree house feel. The food was delusions and the scenery and view of the city was perfect. The restaurant was very artsy elevators were decorated nice artwork up in fancy pillows the seating to make it very artistic. The restrooms were clean there is a wait if you do not have a reservation because it's so popular. It's the perfect restaurant for couples or romantic getaway. The server did not speak English it was very patient he receives assistance from a server who spoke English.
