Nice option in Santa Teresa for a quick bite and a few beers. Located in a great area to bar hop. It's small and crowded when we are there with great vibes, energetic noise levels, and the coldest beer we'd have in Rio. The feijoada for one was plenty for 2. It was tasty, very meaty, and smoky definitely with a home cooked flavor.

Perfect for brunch! They lost a star because we called ahead for our large group to reserve a table and still had to wait an hour. We walked around the street and checked out the vendors and street art while we waited. The open air environment is great for people watching and loud groups like ours. We all ordered caiperinhas and pasties. Delicious! I'm pretty sure we all had at least two drinks.... The food was delicious! My tutua de mineiro was delivered and I had no idea it would be pork chops. Lol. I just ordered off the specials board. Best I'd had in years. Juicy and flavorful. The mashed black beans were very garlicky and perfect for keeping the bugs away. The kale was lightly seasoned, crisp, and easily chewed. They have a few servers who know a little English if you are void of conversational Portuguese, but it easy to just point at the menu and go.

Nice cold beer to go down with your beer.

This was recommended to me by many locals in this area. You will pass the famous Selaron Steps on your way here and will have to walk about 7min from the steps (good exercise before you pig out) Once you get there you will see a lively atmosphere. People outside drinking beer and socializing. Right near it there is a small little bakery that sells the best Pao de Queijo (cheesebread) that you will have ever tasted. I recommend getting it as an app after putting your name down on the list for Bar do Mineiro. It is popular it is packed with locals, so may have to wait, we didnt wait long and just ordered some beers while we waited (you can drink outside in Brazil). The food was absolutley deliicious and plentiful. I got some Feijoada (famous Brazilian Dish) beans mixed with beef over white rice and garlic. Delicous! Everything else we got was delicious as well. My friend wanted to americanize the meal and ordered fries. Don't order them they were ok and they have so many much better side orders than fries. It came out to about $10-$12 US a steal for the amount of food you get. Totally Recommend!!

Delicious. Lovely eclectic decor & neighborhood ambiance. Friendly service. We ordered the feijoada, the oxtail, and the fried fish. Feijoada came with the usual greens, farofa, and rice--but it was all so much better than what I've had at other places. Waiter cut the fish open for us & moved the bones. Oxtail was tender, juicy, and had lovely potatoes & polenta in it...the broth was yummy and fatty. This place is a must if you're in Santa Teresa!!

I asked to be brought to a place where locals find feijoada to be great. This is of course not my first time eating feijoada, but I can safely say that I was never a big fan of it. So I wanted to try what locals would deem good, to make a final decision on whether I really am a fan or otherwise of this local dish. Though slighter saltier than what I am use to, this must have been one of the better feijoada that I have had :) and they had feijoada pastels! Which I highly recommend to anyone who has not tried it before. Eat it when it's nice and hot! I was lucky enough to be with people who were use to going and brought me there before the crowd came in. Had a great table and avoided any waiting. So if you have the choice, go early! I walked pass that place later part of the afternoon and it was pack with people! And there were people waiting outside too!

Great feijoada with smokey and chunky meats and sausages. It has a good flavor and the accompanying sides were excellent. Do I think it's the best feijoada? I don't know if it justifies the price and I'm not much of a black beans stew eater. Would I bring a tourist or eat here again specifically for a feijoada? I might - especially since I loved the Santa Teresa neighborhood. The feijoada was surprisingly served with oranges, which provided a nice refreshing taste to the palate.

Feijoada the brazilian national dish. I had to eat it and I had to sample it somewhere authentic. I asked around for tips from the locals and all roads pointed to bar mineiro. We had planned to head to Santa Teresa on our last day and had ear marked some time for the feijoada. A pork and bean stew served with kale, rice and the traditional yuka flour. Climbing up the hill to get to Santa Teresa we were spellbound by the street art and artists studios. Most of the restaurants were fairly empty until we hit bar mineiro. The place was bustling with hungry cariocas and tourists alike queuing for the famous feijoada. My two travel companions ... Not the most adventurous with food were a bit sceptical so they asked me to order some snacks as well in case they didn't like the feijoada. At the end of the meal the feijoada had vanished and the both wished we'd ordered more. The proprietor was very helpful and found us a seat without a wait as we had only a short time before our flight. Great experience only wish I could have eaten there again.

    Feijoada for 2 people (R $84)

My boyfriend and I came to Bar do Mineirohoje for an early dinner on Sunday afternoon. I read a review about this restaurant having the best feijoada in town and decided to check it out. It was much less crowded then I was expecting for a Sunday afternoon and we were seated right away. We started off with lemon Caipirinhas (R$12 each) that were the worst that I've had in Brazil. They were pretty bad, not going to lie. The Cachaça that they use in the Caipirinhas is probably poor in quality and therefore has an icky and watered down taste. But the feijoada was great! Bar do Mineiro is known for their feijoada ($84/for 2 people) and it deserves all of its recognition. The feijoada came out about 15 minutes after we had ordered. We were served a small plate of rice (which could have been bigger for 2 people but we made it work), a plate of collard green and farofa, a cup of diced oranges and an aromatic pot of black bean stew with a number of different meats. Our favorite meat was the sausage. Delicious! Overall I would come back to Bar do Mineiro for their feijoada (delicious) but not necessarily for the caipirinhas.

Feijoada is apparently a must in Brazil so we really wanted to try this new dish. Problem is: when it's 40 degrees outside, you don't really feel like eating the local version of goulash (lots of different meats, a huge quantity of hot sauce, tons of beans...). Not my taste. Too much for lunch considering the climate. But the place is cute. And at night it looks even better. It was packed when we passed by at 8 PM. Perfect for a beer if you want to have a drink :)

    Vegetarian plate to share

Really good brazilian food with a couple of vegetarian and vegan options. We chose a plate to share with mashed pumpkin (so good!), soy mince, fried kale, couscous and black beans. Everything was really good and well put together. It's a cool place with old interior details.

Skip the garlic fried chicken. Tough and dry.

Enjoyed our meal and experienced delicious, homemade Brazilian cuisine. I recommend trying the feijoada and the Mineiro light.

It is VERY popular and I'm sure being recommended by Bourdain has a lot to do with it. The first time we tried to eat there the wait was over an hour long. We went sometime after 1AM and there was still a decent wait, maybe close to 30 minutes. The place is pretty small and cramped, but that gives it some charm. Somehow that makes the food taste even better. We ordered a little bit of everything and it was all amazing. Chicken, steak, fries, garlic bread, polenta. It's a solid restaurant that serves up pretty good chicken. In fact I ate here twice in a week, the first time to try it out and the second time because it was late at night and they are open until 5AM. Both times I was here it was timed right and I didn't have to wait for a table. The employees were accommodating to a tourist like myself who has a limited Portuguese vocabulary. They also have English language menus although I do like to navigate a menu in another language just to see what I can recognize. Both times I had the chicken with the garlic and pepper sauce as well as pão de alho. The chicken was perfect, juicy and very flavorful. And plenty of garlic. The garlic bread was delicious and had plenty of garlic. I love garlic so it was great for me but I can see some people saying it may be too much garlic. Batatas fritas were good as well. There was more I wanted to try but I will definitely be back the next time I am in Rio de Janeiro. This place has been around for decades so it should still be around on my next visit.

This restaurant can get pretty busy in the afternoon to evening so, the best strategy is to come here as soon as they open. When I went, it seemed like the diners were locals and a few tourists. I looked up this restaurant before coming here so I can narrow down what I wanted to try. Fish or chicken filet with broccoli rice was the plan. But that's not what I ended up getting! Octopus: I love octopus so, I had to get it. Tender, perfectly cooked. Not heavily seasoned so you can fully enjoy its natural flavor. 4/5 Bolinho Bacalhau: When in Brazil or Portugal, you have to get bacalhau. Salted cod fritter without being salty. You get some crunch while the inside is soft without being dry. 4/5 Just the right amount of food so I can try more than one dish. Satisfying lunch. This is a very homey small casual restaurant. Service was good. Just wave somebody over if you need something. You must try this place!
