I've had the pleasure of dealing with both Paul and Josh. Josh is a true craftsman and professional. He takes the time to explain each step of the work on your firearm at the time of drop off. He is also very helpful and descriptive over the telephone. The first job I hired his services for was a Noveske upper build using a Geissele Mk14 rail and FN cold hammer forged barrel. Josh immediately recognized that the parts were milspec compliant and explained that the turn around time would be fairly quick. Upon pickup, the upper was assembled with the utmost care and quality. Josh even performed the crosscut for the "bullet proof" install of the Geissele low profile gas block. The second firearm Josh worked on was my old Beretta 92FS which had been upgraded with Wilson parts. Josh milled out the fixed front sight blade and installed a fiber optic bead for better FS pickup. He also installed a Wilson Combat u notch rear. As with his previous work, the quality and craftsmanship was outstanding. It feels comforting to know that there's highly skilled and knowledge gunsmith like Josh in North OC. Applied Kinetics is also a FFL which performs person to person firearms transfers. They work on civilian guns as well as the Law Enforcement community.

I happened to find Josh & Applied Kinetics via referral from a couple people. Let me tell you I'm glad I found this hidden gem for some work on my Noveske 5.56. I initially came in for installation on a Custom Port Cover and I ended up getting a really good price on a Lantac Dragon muzzle break, it was less than other places I had previously checked out. I dropped off late afternoon and was able to pick up the very next day, very convenient it's on my way to work. But most important Josh does great work at a very reasonable price. The two people who referred Josh to me were very pleased with his work as well. Thanks again Josh I'll be certain to go back to have other work done.

Went here to ask if they can re-thread my busted lower reciever pistol grip screw hole, josh was very helpful explaining to me what happened and took care of my problem for just $20 same hour! Where others ive inquired would charge ridiculous prices and would take time. With that i knew where to go for my gunsmithing needs, so as a returning customer got my new full rail installed on my stock M&P 15 sport 2 and they did a damn good job.. they're a lil hard to find but worth the trip! Looking forward to working with them again.

I don't write reviews on Yelp ever . For the sheer fact that people make fun of people who dedicate so much time to "yelping" . For Josh though, an exception will be made . Found him while googling for a local gunsmith . There are just some things I find that you should leave to a professional , even with 10+ years in firearms and maintenance. And professional is a understatement when it comes to Josh and his work. Minor maintenance up to full gun builds he has been nothing but exceptional . From quick fixes to trouble shooting to full builds, I have had nothing but perfection. So to Josh .... Thank you again for your past present and future work I bring in . And to all others who need amazing customer service and knowledge ....... Go in and see for yourself .

Got my 226 milled for RMR optic. Josh actually got it done earlier than expected, ready for a weekend shooting trip that I had planned.

Ask the Community - Applied Kinetics

I have an Alexander arms .50 beaeolf, wondering can you guys build me a muzzle break?

I have a Tavor x95 but would like to change the ejection port configuration to left handed. My understanding is I need a left handed bolt. Would you be able to ensure that headspacing is appropriate?

Yes, you will need the left handed bolt and yes we can check the headspace on the rifle afterwards.

Hi there, I have a Winchester model 94 30/30 having problems with the trigger is that something to can fix?

Hi Hector, Yes, bring the rifle by and we can see what we can do about it.… Read more

The level of…read morecustomer service, communication and overall quality that you find here is honestly very elusive in this industry. Dave, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable and takes the time to actually help you without any pressure or attitude. If you've ever been to other firearm stores, you probably know what I mean. Many places can come off like they have a superiority complex, like you're supposed to already know everything. That's not the case here at all. At ShootSoCal, you can ask any question and they'll walk you through it without making you feel uncomfortable. That alone goes a long way and keeps me coming back. I've purchased items from them, had builds done and even had custom work completed and every single time the result has been the same: top-tier service and excellent results. They're consistent, professional, and genuinely care about their customers. I recommend them to everyone I know. If you're looking for a place that treats you right and delivers quality work, this is it.

Small shop, but good selection of equipment, from AR parts to carry bags, oil/maintenance kits etc. Also, staff gave me some practical advice about anodizing the steel barrel I had purchased (for getting a different color on it), getting a gun locker and outdoor ranges within a 45 minute drive. Lastly, I was offered assistance to assemble my firearm, but didn't need it since I'd been studying how to do that while waiting to take delivery. Bottomline: I'd use ShootSoCal as an FFL again.
