I was just at this point, when our dryer decided to up and stop working. NOOOOO. Even worse? We were right in the middle of moving to a new place. What to do, what to do? Only one answer in a time like this: Yelp. Alas, turns out yelpers in LB haven't had much need for dryer repair or cheap dryers, so I turned to the default answer number two: Craiglist. Buying appliances on Craigslist is risky business, but when I came across someone who looked like they ran a relatively legitimate business, i gave them a call and chatted with the most charmingly grumpy old man ever: James. Ah, James. He'll tell you what's what, and he won't beat around the bush. And he'll tell you just what he thinks of the city of Long Beach, and how he still busts his balls working after 30 years in business. And, finally, he'll tell you if your dryer is worth repairing. My wasn't, but I was in luck - he has a warehouse chock FULL of dryers he repaired himself. Now, this may sound shady, but I'm pretty sure it's fully legit. Mostly relatively late model dryers for $150-$200(he's also got refrigerators and some washers - not sure 'bout the price on those). Other folks on CL sell dryers for the same price, but I tell you what, they don't come with the one year James warranty, no siree. The dryer was delivered and installed the same day, and works like a charm all for just about $200. ...next time I'm wearing *real clothes* and not a dingy old KROQ shirt, I've got grumpy ol' James to thank.

When I got there he changed the price from the originally quoted $35 to $50. $35 was already overpaying for the part as it's MSRP was $23.99. Although I direly needed the part this was the last straw and I walked out. American Appliance is a complete joke. Don't waste your time or money dealing with him.

He then asked for the $55 as well (which is something most places do NOT do... you pay the fee only if you choose to not fix your appliance), so the total was $303. He fixed something taking only 15 mins to fix it. The washer worked for that day only and then stopped. I texted him, and he came back on the 16th. He fixed it again and the same thing happened, so I texted again. No response. I wound up calling someone else out & he stated the "mother board" needed to be replaced and that it would cost over $600 to fix. He also said the previous guy should've known this. So Eduardo's appliance charged me $303 to "fix" something he knew wouldn't solve my issue. It makes sense why he ignored me because he charged me for something he knew he couldn't fix.

I have used them before but many years ago. So I arrive and there is a small fridge blocking the path to get in so I call the number outside and Hector answers the phone, told him if he was able to come out and he said come right in. So I moved the fridge to give me space, while moving it I saw Hector come out. Went inside and told him if he could see my gas dryer at home and how much would it cost for the home visit. He said $20 and if I made the repairs with him it will be waived. He arrived about a half hour later or so and came in. He was polite and honest. He saw the dryer and knew what it needed. He said he normally charges $115 to fix it but he will charge me $95 and have it working for me in no time. He already had the parts in hand with him since I told him back at the store my dryer wasn't heating just blowing cold air. He changed the thermal fuse and another piece and he was done in about 35 minutes. Gave him $100 and left it at that. Dryer is working now. If you want to save even more money I'm sure you could look up stuff on YouTube and do it yourself. I thought the price was decent and we never discussed warranty but I know he is honest, and I'm sure I can return and he can help me out again. He has been in the area for over 15 maybe 20 years.

The units all had slight cosmetic damage (often in back or somewhere that wouldn't show) and plenty of selection so we could find just the right price / condition mix for the rental unit. Sales person was very helpful discussing what they had, when more stuff comes in if I wanted to see more stuff, and explaining warranty. They always show up on time and are in and out within 20 minutes. I have not found any appliance repair shop in my area that offers the affordable rates that Vic's offers.
