Had a very nice technician come to the house to checkout problem with washing machine, the fee for that visit was $229.99. Was told by two different people that I could use that fee toward a new machine if I purchased it within 30 days. The repair didn't work so we decided to buy a new one. Looked on their website to see what was available and in stock. Got to the store and was met by salesman right off. We told him what we wanted and he showed us the machine with a $777 price tag. We mentioned on line the same machine was $649, the first shyster move!!! He said I'll be right back, and said we were correct. We then said we'd like to buy and put the $229.99 towards the purchase, his response was our policy is only $50 can be used for purchase! Second shyster move! We stated that the employees need to be more educated on the policies, we got a blank stare and then walked out. After telling this to many people , we heard similar and more horror stories from this store, not recommended by many from what the word around town is!! read more

Advantage Appliance in Kennebunk Maine is the worst business I have ever dealt with in my life. I had to contact my credit card company and did a chargeback on a stove they refused to take back. We won the chargeback because they violated their return policy and they were engaging in false advertising of their products. Defective instillation of initial microwave. Despicable customer service, saying quote " We won't give you the warehouse address because you take up too much of our time." Refusal to pick up and refund initial microwave. I sent them an email which included pictures to rectify all concerns/ issues, and they have not responded in weeks. If you have complaints or problems, they will sleep it all under the rug and hope you go away. A repairman came out to take a look at my microwave. Said the magnetronm is gone. He was great. I paid him the basic $199 repair rate. He said I would be rebated if I purchased my new microwave through them because I used them for repair.. The sales guy then called (Joshua) me to quote the price of a replacement microwave; $459. I had to remind him the service guy said I'd get a rebate for using them for the repair. 'Oh, that's right!, So we give a $50 rebate..it will be $409'. He then said their repair guys don't deliver and install so I needed to call someone they contract with for that and gave me a number to call. So I called the contractor. That guy quoted $100/hour and said he would first need to call Joshua about the cost of delivery because he wasn't sure about that. I asked who I would hear back from, and he said 'either Joshua or I'. When Joshua returned the call, I asked how much delivery & install would be (mind you, this involves removing the frame, plugging in the new oven, putting the frame back on. It took the repair guy all of 10-15 minutes to do this). Joshua then said he was working to calculate the numbers (he had already talked to the conractor)....I waited.......he then said 'I need to check with somone while you hold on'. He came back and said 'it will be $299.99 to deliver and install the unit plus the cost of the microwave. I told him the contractor was going to charge $100 for install (it would take no more than an hour) so they were charging $200 for delivery (?!!). RUN, don't walk from this company. They are out to price gouge their customers. read more

Paid a $300 service fee that still did not fix the problem. Went to speak with the manager and he refused to come out of his office. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. I had appliance advantage over to look at my 2 year old dishwasher that wasn't draining. I was quoted a $229.00 charge to diagnose my problem. I asked for an estimate cost if it was a motor, which they would not provide me. So I agreed to have them check it out for the $229.00 and assumed that the $229.00 would go towards the repair price if I continued with the repair. That's on me, for I did agree and unfortunately assumed too much. After about 20 minutes, the technician told me the drain pump was gone and it would cost $650.00 to come back and replace it. Yes $650.00. So regardless of whether I continued the repair or not, I was paying $229.00 and then a totally additional price for the repair. I have no problem and totally understand a company charging a guarantee price to diagnose the issue, but I have never known that cost not to be part of the cost if you continue with the repair. I obviously refused the quote and said I could get a new dishwasher for the same price. The technician then had the audacity to inform me his company also sells new dishwashers. read more

I originally contacted Appliance Advantage for repair to a dryer. The woman I spoke with said the cost to have the service person come would be $199.99, but that if the dryer couldn't be fixed, that charge would be taken off the cost of a dryer if I purchased a new one from them. I did go and purchase a dryer and they only deducted $50 from the price. I needed someone to connect the dryer to the propane and the woman in the store said they used a propane service person who charged $150. I used him and he charged $500. Also, Appliance Advantage charged me another $199.99 just to drop off the dryer! So, the purchase of a $643 dryer cost me $1,543! VERY DISAPPOINTED with them. BAD business practices. Service tech arrived at stated time yet only was on site for approximately 20 minutes without fixing the appliance problem. He actually stated that he had limited experience with that brand. It was a terrible experience and service rep was sketchy. The bill was exorbitant - almost $200.00 dollars yet I was eager to pay it to have the incompetent service tech out of my house. Nov.2023, purchased 3 LG appliances... Dishwasher, washer/dryer. Questioned whether they would fit in our space. Took pictures of our space with dimensions, and went back 2 times. Was assured that appliances were basically the same size and would fit. The day they arrived (3 young men who did not seem to know much about what they were doing) brought them into the house. One guy said "this dishwasher is too big for the space, and I can't hook this up". We were charged an extra $350 to "install" the dishwasher! The guy was shocked at that, and said we should call for a refund. In the meantime, the other 2 guys were hooking up the washer/dryer. They proceeded to fill the washer with water, and waited a few minutes, and left. After going out the door, we saw water draining out all over the floor...our entryway and kitchen floor! We called them back inside (only reason they were still here, is because the battery was dead in their COMPANY TRUCK! They told us to get OUR towels to mop up the water. They DID NOT have a wet vac! As it turned out, they had "forgotten" to put the plug in the drain pipe! When we called the business after these guys left, we were told they would not credit back the extra $350 we had paid to connect the dishwasher, even though it was not connected. They also said they don't compensate for the water damage! When the owner returned (from the Bahamas), he started TEXTING us. He was not willing to exchange the appliances, which were all too big for our spaces. We tried to get him to work with us, but he had no intention of trying to help with anything. He offered to buy us NEW TOWELS! After all this, people were telling us of their bad experience with this company. Then... the owner sent me a VERY THREATENING text message. He said he would sue us for slander, ( for telling the truth about our experience with them)! I said..." This review is related to the Kennebunk office. We called to have a repair estimate on a washer. Duke and Tony came and spent 15 minutes diagnosing a starter issue. $400 estimate. We decided against the repair and paid $130 for the service call. The hose connecting the water source to the washer was ruptured during the diagnostic routine. The water valve was left turned on. The result was a flood of four inches of water in the basement. I left several messages with April in the office for the owner/manager. He never returned my call and never refunded the $130. They left nothing but a broken washer and a flooded basement. No stars for these guys. Pathetic service and customer care. Beware of getting "hosed" like we did! read more

My washer/dryer unit in my home in York had broken due to renters overloading the dryer. Other appliance companies told me it would be October before I could see them. I opted to replace my washer and after talking to them Friday the 2nd, they were here on Tuesday the 6th to remove the old unit and replace it with a new one. Rob and Matt were exceptional! On time, professional, not one scratch on a wall, in very tight conditions. I'd recommend them to anyone looking for top notch service and installation. read more

Even though Duke was a "nice guy", he had NO idea what he was doing! He came out, charged me the $175.00 diagnostic fee, I agreed to the repairs, he totally misdiagnosed the problem of our LG refrigerator/freezer, would not come out again--- I was double charged and Appliance Disadvantage would not take it off my AX. I would advise anyone to shop elsewhere when buying new appliances. Appliance Advantage is way over priced $200-300 more than Home Depot or Lowe's plus they charge a delivery fee which is 60.00 non refundable even if you get a defective item and it is returned. Purchased a refrigerator from them and it did not work upon delivery. The first technician tried telling us it was the wall plug in which the unit was plugged into. So we changed wall plugs. Still not working second technician said nothing wrong with fridge "It's normal for a fridge to run 41-45deg because we are going through a heat wave. My oven was not heating up. I called several places and was told it would be at least 2 weeks before someone could come out. I called Appl Adv and they were able to schedule me a week out, which was much better. On the day of the appt Rob came out, after a long day, it was close to 6p. He apologized for being there late. I appreciated that he came after he was supposed to be off work. He wore a mask, was kind and professional. He went to work immediately, despite my mini-dachshund giving him a hard time. He fixed the oven within 20 minutes and was on his way. I am happy with the result and the professionalism and kindness of the repairman. Thank you!! read more

The folks here struggled with me through some unusual trouble-shooting which took a while to diagnose. It turned out, after having a separate plumber come in who did not find the issue, that a strange (not to code) plumbing situation in this older home was the issue. The problem was a single joint tucked up in the drainpipe that was too small to allow the machine to drain fully in the time the cycle allowed. This contributed to the failure of the first machine. We were frustrated and confused that after buying a new machine we had the same "no drain" problem as we had with the old one. The old machine had other problems (bad board) - so instead of a Bosch, this time we went with a Whirlpool. Steve was the person who solved the problem, and he has excellent people skills. That helped! Thanks most especially to him and to Marie at the front desk, who fielded my calls and emails. All the guys who came here wore masks and explained what they were finding and doing as they went along. I am really relieved this problem has finally been solved. read more

I gave Appliance Advantage a less than mediocre review a few days ago. I am now downgrading it to 1 star. I wish there was a no star option. First they charged me $50 to come and flip the door on my newly installed dryer. They felt very generous given that the usual charge for the work was $79. Took about 10 minutes. Should have been done at the time of installation. No one asked, no one checked. A day later I realized that the hoses to the water source were switched. The hot was going to cold, the cold to hot. I made a personal visit to the store to express my annoyance (again). No apology, no concern for my inconvenience, no appropriate words even remotely associated with good customer service. I wanted to buy local, especially during the pandemic. There are other local appliance stores in the area. Shop at one of those, not at Appliance Advantage! read more

Our refrigerator stopped cooling. Called for service and they were here in a couple of hours. Unrepairable due to 16 yr old LG compressor so they took the dimensions of our small space. I called AJ in their sales department who used the dimensions taken by Kevin in repair to send us a couple of options by text. Within 24 hrs we had a new refrigerator!! Excellent service from Jen/Jess who took my calls helped with the quick service and delivery, Kevin who came to try and repair, AJ with responsive sales and Matt and Rob who delivered and could not have been nicer, even with our tiny spaces and second floor delivery. Shopping Local doesn't always work!!! Cooktop failed and I called Appliance Advantage for the repair. Instead of replacing electronic board for a large amount of money, decided to buy cooktop from them. They measured for a new one, called it in to the salesman, who said the only one that would fit was their most expensive Decor model. They ordered it and brought it to install. Too small despite all their measuring. Did a makeshift install by screwing in supports to Corian, which cracked it. They said they had to order a metal piece to go around the side - yuk! Still have not heard back about that metal despite two calls. You try to shop local, but this company is one to avoid, despite how friendly they seem. Unreliable!! read more

Appliance Advantage service is a rip off who will just try to sell you a new appliance. They charged $149 for a repair man who had no idea what he was talking about. The only diagnostic he did was to unplug and plug the fridge again. The freezer was not cooling down properly. He then started telling us all the things it could be: bad control board ($450) or needs coolant replaced which could leak. He then proceeded into a hard sell for us to buy a new fridge from them. This was a top of the line GE which had been rarely used. I guess he thought he could bamboozle a couple of senior citizens. After paying the $149 we called another service. (Diagnostic fee was only $90). He quickly found that the temperature sensor in the freezer was not positioned correctly and a severed wire at the control board. Total repair was $250. Fridge is running great. read more

I purchased a washer & dryer set from this company and have not had a great experience from the start. While making a purchasing decision I was told that there was a $50 rebate, to which I never received. I was told that they weren't giving me the rebate because it wasn't backed by Maine efficiency. Good customer service means you back up the rebate if you offer it. Besides the rebate my washer started to act up and leak water. I was told by the nasty "customer service" rep April who claims to be the manager that they don't service my area and that I needed to call the manufacturer. I called the manufacturer and to add insult to injury the washer has been recalled and they should have never sold me it! I would definitely not recommend buying anything from this store! read more

We had a great experience today with Appliance Advantage/Kennebunk - Maine! Our first point-of-contact was with April, via telephone; she was immensely helpful and friendly; our tech Duke arrived within an hour or two of our phoncecall to April and we were thrilled with such a quick response. (our LG 2-yr-old refrigerator had conked out and we had zero luck with LG connecting us with a repair company). We located Appliance Advantage on our own and were very happy with Duke...he is professional, friendly and honest. He knew within moments that the freon had completely leaked! We did not care to spend $900 on new freon for our leaking lemon of a refrigerator, and Duke made some helpful suggestions for us. Appliance Advantage happens to sell appliances, new and refurbished and we will definitely visit their location. Thank-you again April and Duke! (the only reason I posted 4/5 stars was because we did not have/need actual repairs done, so we did not experienc a full-service-repair visit...I would however give them 5/5 in advance :-)) read more

Appliance Advantage is prompt, knowledgeable and efficient. Duke and Tony got right to work troubleshooting and diagnosing the ice maker problem. They repaired the problem and explained everything throughly. This is the fourth time I have used them in my rental units and I highly recommend them.
