Brand spanking newly opened!…read more At the heart of Monton's upcoming new businesses, The Blind Pig has just opened renovated that has replaced a previous pub there previously. The decor looks fresh, new, chic, understated and has that grey wood varnish touch that seems to be quite in at the moment. It's a bar but also a restaurant although it still has that pub feel but the new era pub feel. We went for the food and the cocktails - on a Friday night! This is the real time to test a new eatery. They did surprisingly well. We didn't wait for ages, had fun with the cocktails and discussing the place. Cute little notes were hung from table decorations and writing on the walls. Selection: Starting sharer platter - Italian meats, rocket, olives, mozzarella Soup and chips Random I know, but it worked. All of the food was tasty and fresh. Even through the renovation, it still attracts a lot of the old crowd. We were sat next to some people who didn't stop saying the F word through our latter part of the meal. This didn't put me off the food and the experience we'd had so far and I think it genuinely deserves 4*'s.

Monton is really going through some serious changes at the moment and will surely become the next Didsbury / Chorlton. The Gatehouse is a long established pub serving food at certain times of the day on Manchester Road…read more/ Cherrington Drive in Tyldesley. The building has been refurbished a couple of times in its 30 odd year history, perhaps losing a little character along the way. The interior used to look great with different levels, but it's all been flattened out to one, level with the bar now. Dropped in for lunch on Saturday to be told that the kitchen doesn't open until 1pm. Odd, but not a problem, it was 12:40 anyway. So we took a drink and went to look at the menu. Shortly after 1 I placed a food order to be told there might be a slight delay as everyone had ordered all at once. What, all three tables? Wouldn't like them to be busy! She wasn't kidding either, it took an hour for the food to arrive. I had the chicken and black pudding stack with a peppercorn sauce whilst my companion had scampi. Both were delightful , especially the vegetables tasted really fresh. In summary, the food was worth the wait, but only just! It should have been much quicker. And at £24 for 2 mains and 2 drinks it's reasonable but certainly not cheap for pub grub in Tyldesley. Would I return? Yes, but only if I'm not in a hurry!

Don't recommend eating there the food is very bad and we gave it a second chance and got even more…read moredisappointed than the first visit, which is a shame as it's the closest bar and restaurant to us so I really wanted it to be good. They have a huge menu but don't have anything you want as they don't cook it on a certain day even though they don't state that on their menu. The burger tasted like bleach it was uneatable the fish tasted sour, just gross would never eat there again.

It was the first time we had entered a pub since March due to this pandemic! We popped in here…read moreafter spending the day at the Gardening Centre across the road. I was a little bit apprehensive at first but it was not too busy and the staff put us at ease. We were seated and given quick instuctions of how to order etc. I was not massively hungry after snaffling a cake across the road so had a potted mushroom starter £4.99 and my partner chose the steak salad for £7.50. To be honest I was not expecting much in terms of the steak for that price but I was pleasantly proven wrong. It arrived in a large salald bowl cooked to perfection. The salad was not imaginative filled with cherry tomatoes, cucumber, peppers and lettuce and it was a challenged trying to cut steak in a fish bowl but it was really good value for money.. My mushrooms were okay but i used thick peppercorn sauce to dip the steak in. Overall a nice friendly pub which I am glad to see doing okay after these few months .

The service was superb despite being inundated with "strangers" on a usually very quiet Monday night. We have now had a return visit along with my youngest son, his wife and two daughters (3 and 4 yrs old). We were welcomed and extremely well looked after, despite there being a 90th Birthday celebration in progress already. The meals we had were nothing short of excellent and we chatted with the cook afterwards about how much nicer hand-made chips are than any alternative. All of the food was freshly prepared and very tasty. Although we had the advantage of Coach House Brewery giving us a talk and tasting session, it appears that the pub always has a good selection of real ales on handpull, including many of Coach House's products. All the usual keg beers seemed to be available for those who prefer them and a fair selection of spirits and wines. The pub serves food between mid-day (12.00) and 5pm and we intend to return sometime soon to sample the menu, which offers a few basic, wholesome meals. There is a fine car park and, best for us, the bus stop is right outside! Bents customers would do well to cross the road and sample the delights of a good pub, provided they haven't already spent up!

The @worsleyoldhall is a great historic building with a great old English pub and restaurant inside. Great staff there! Ate at the bar and had a great time chatting with them while enjoying a pint or two and great traditional fare. Started with Italian mixed olives well, just because! Went with chicken liver pate with carrot and apricot chutney and never heard of toasted bloomers but it's a nice crusty bread and the combination of the three was amazing in between sips of a great local beer. For the main course had the roasted pheasant breast stuffed with wild boar and apricots. Had a celeriac (celery) purée and juniper gravy. It was a cold rainy evening and this was such a delicious mix of flavors. The boar and pheasant complimented each other so well and the apricots and gravy and purée made every bite moist and flavorful. Was wishing I saved one piece of bread to clean the plate! Last, finished with sticky toddy pudding that was a surprise. I never knew older rustic desserts were referred to as pudding. Came with a toffee sauce to pour over along with a scoop of ice cream and was a perfect finish. Just a short walk with a full belly to the hotel next door. No trouble sleeping after that hearty English dinner and good company by the staff there. If you're in the area add it to the list! Beautiful historic building, great food and drink, great people!
