The service was horrible. The food was ok. But could of been better. Dri is was watered down. Went in and it took about 20 minutes before a waiter even came to our table for drinks. Now mind you there was only maybe 5 only customers in the restaurant. Then he finally made it over. Took the drink and food order. Another 20 minutes still waiting on drinks. They were sitting on the bar we could see them but he was setting on a computer. Finally he brings them over. Then he brings the salads that was setting by the drinks. We asked what was going on he said he was working a double shift. But with only a few people there was no excuse. Then made a order to go. And when we got ready to leave had to ask for it. The salad was cold served in a warm bowl therefore the salad didn't stay cold very long. The green beans were overcooked and mushy. The mashed potato was barely warm. A couple of weeks ago I ate at an Applebees in West Palm Beach and had a bed experience. If you like you can read my last review and you'll understand. So I'm in Iowa and before I check into my hotel I decide to eat. It's a little late and I spot this Applebees. Should I or shouldn't I. Well everyone one deserves a second chance. I'm seated right away and a waitress and trainee show up immediately. I place my order, and I'm trying the Bourbon Steak, mostly as a test. Now the fun, and entertainment starts. I'm seated in a booth behind a couple of sort of older people who are discussing Miley Cirus and her sexuality. Between this discussion and the Winter Olympics on a big screen TV. I'm enjoying this, but then the tide changes. The conversation turns to Brittany Spears. Now I'm no longer enjoying this. There's no reason to bring up Brittany and bash her. Leave her alone. If you want to bash Brittany, I'm coming for you. Ok, let's discuss this food. My meal comes and I have to turn off the conversation around me. Steak is cooked just the way I like it, medium heat. Garlic mashed potatoes, on point. Applebees has redeemed themselves for me. Ordered food, got our appetizer and it was partially wrong. Then was given the bill and didn't get our entrees. Entrees wasn't even on the bill. Told the hostess and our waitress explained she lost our ticket, but she didn't bother to tell us to reorder our food. Ended up spending an hour and a half there, when it wasn't even busy. The place wasn't too full and didn't appear to be too busy but service was slow. They took our drink orders right away then took close to 10 minutes to bring out 7 glasses of water. Once those were delivered it was at least another 10 until they took our order, we were ready when they brought the waters. When we finally got some of our food the appetizers came out with none of the small plates which resulted in us having to squirt ketchup on napkins and eat off them so we could share the one order of onion rings around the table. The onion rings tasted like old grease and it was obvious their friers needed an oil change. After what was close to an hour after arriving the rest of the food came out. I cut my hamburger in half to make it easier to eat and was surprised to see that it was far more than just a little pink. The picture doesn't do it justice, a big chunk of raw meat fell out of it as I picked it up. The real kicker was that the bacon in it was burnt to a crisp. It was black and hard. They took it back and eventually brought out a burger that was cooked better about the time everyone else at the table was done. Even then they were unable to bring the fresh fries back out until I was already done eating the hamburger. When it wasn't raw it was still not something I would order again. When the fries came out they had the same burnt taste that all the other fried food that was ordered around the table had. As we were sitting there one of us made the mistake of looking up. This spot was right above my head! The air vents in there looked just as bad and the whole ceiling looked beyond a little dingy. We won't make the mistake of eating there again! read more

Made a table reservation for 2, arrived 15 min early and no wait staff made eye contact or effort to acknowledge my presence. Got to my table & it was sticky in spots. We went on a date night, and the restaurant ended up having a gas leak and the staff working on February 1st between 5pm and 8pm did an absolute amazing job getting customers out of the building and then they told us that the company is taking care of the bills and not to worry about anything, also the people that took cups out with them, the staff game them to them. i think that staff working that day all needs a raise and are very well trained read more

So, I am here visiting as my boyfriend was relocated for work. They are busy, which is great, but the food was horrible. My salmon over cooked and potatoes cold. Then I decided to have a beer and that was literally the only thing consumable. I thought they can't screw up cheese sticks right... wrong. I barely finished ordering them when some old ass app shows up. Plate hot, sticks cold. Then the marinara has got a film on it. Clearly signifying that they have been sitting there for awhile. They take those same sticks put in the fryer for a second and send them back out. They are cold in the middle and I break it open and showed them. They then took the same sticks that I now touched and put them in the fryer AGAIN, and try to serve them. I'm just astonished at the level of laziness. I normally love ribs, but the ribs at this Applebee's are rather dry and tasteless with little meat. This place stays busy most of the time, but the staff has always been friendly whenever we've visited. If you're going near a weekend evening, expect a wait time of around 30 minutes as average. That seems like a small amount in general, but for Ottumwa it is quite long. read more

We've tried this place 4 times in the last year since we moved here. Not one single good experience. This time our wait-person acted like it was physically painful to even smile at us. Then it took forever to get our drinks. Then the burgers came out without fries because they were making a new batch. It took the fries so long that we nearly had eaten all our burgers, so then we weren't really interested in the fries. Our waitperson didn't offer one time to fill our drinks. I took my wife and elderly mom to eat here. We're not from this area but have eaten at Applebee's in our community before and the food and service have always been good. The restaurant is a little run down but that didn't dissuade us. We didn't mind waiting a few minutes even though they weren't that busy because we know the situation restaurant's are having hiring and keeping employees. Our appetizer was an artichoke dip with chips and the dip was cold and disgusting. We had it sent back to be served properly and it was returned to us extremely hot after being thrown in a microwave. I ordered a sweet and sour chicken sandwich and the picture on the menu makes it appear to be a very thick piece of breast meat. What I got was something that resembled a fried tenderloin with Korean sauce drizzled over it. My mother had their fish and chips and the breading on the fish was extremely greasy with a funny taste. My wife had a salad and she didn't think it was anything special. We spent $70 for a lunch that wasn't worth $20. We'd have been better off going to Wendy's, KFC or Chic Fil A. Unfortunately this restaurant has ruined it for us and I highly doubt we'll ever return to Applebee's. read more

Applebee's offers what you expect, a pretty consistent product. Service can vary with staff, but I find it generally good here. Tonight I was seated promptly and had a great server, Sabrina. While I haven't tried the new wood fired menu, the burgers are good and the apps are a consistently good choice. And if you come in for a late night snack, check out the 1/2 price apps after 9 PM. A good deal, and most apps qualify--combos, for example, do not. If you like the Applebee's brand, I don't think this spot will disappoint you. My experience has been good. read more

We thought we'd try the carryout and ordered the full rack of baby back ribs. The food was brought out to the car on time. But what a disappointment the ribs were. So very dry and tasteless.
