Many unique gifts...some made by the owner who is 100 years old and is at the shop everyday.

The service, the selection, the owner. Excellent customer service…read more They offer classes and also have free sew days. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I have been to the shop multiple times and have always had a good time in the shop.

I reserved all 5 spots in a kids beginner-level sewing class for my daughter and her girl scout…read morefriends. The website stated that they would make 4 scrunchies during the hour and a half class, that all fabric was included. When we got there, I found out the owner (Vicky) had decided to intentionally double book the class, without telling anyone, including the instructor (who was a 13 year old girl named Audrey). So now there were 10 kids, most of whom have never sewn before. They had one cutting station set up (girls weren't allowed to cut by themselves) and 4 machines, but Vicky said one of the machines wasn't very good and she wouldn't recommend buying it. After an hour, zero scrunchies were done. I made a comment that I didn't see how the girls were going to complete 4 scrunchies in the next half hour at the rate they were going. The owner tried to tell me that it was "up to 4 per person" but that's not what the website says (*see screenshot). At that point though, she became more involved and started actually helping the students. Up to that point, Audrey, who was FABULOUS by the way, was doing all instruction but can only help so many girls at once. After 2 hours, most of the girls have completed ONE scrunchii each.I told Vicky what is going on in this class is NOT okay. She looked surprised and asked what the issue was. I told her: too many students, not enough help, not enough machines, etc. The responses I got: "Well, we have 4; you could have brought your own". Again, no supply list given. This was a beginner class, and my girls don't own their own machines.... "It depends on each person. Some people take longer. Like that girl (as she points to one child); she has had issues and needed to take out stitches twice"... "most of the people who come in already know the basics." So... Where are my girls supposed to learn the basics if not in abeginner class? "Audrey is the instructor. I'm trying to run a business here." ... Ok, so if Audrey is the instructor, then who opened up the class to be double booked?? You, or Audrey?? *at this point Vicky ignored me for about 20 seconds and then said "I opened up the class to more students."... "You're getting a really cheap price for this class. Most places charge you for the material etc." I agreed and told her it WAS a great price, and that's why I booked it for my scouts. But her deciding to run an inexpensive class doesn't mean that my girls aren't entitled to the lesson we paid for. She's the business owner. She sets the prices. And, as customers, we shouldn't lose out because of her poor planning. She finished by saying "I could always charge you more if you want." Audrey kept apologizing as she rushed between students & m ade multiple comments about "If I had known, I would have brought more material" and "I was so surprised when I saw how many girls were here." ... Vicky then tried to say "I told you I opened it to more students. Don't you remember??" And Audrey (being a 13 year old, very obviously trying to cover for her boss) goes "ummm... Oh yeah... I guess I forgot." No she didn't. She was blindsided. Vicky then talked quietly to Audrey for a few minutes... Asked her if 4 scrunchies was too much for one class. Audrey told her no, it's fine if he class was small. Then she asked if she is unable to teach large classes. Again, Audrey told her the number was fine, if she had known ahead of time and had the necessary supplies. Vicky finished up their conversation I saying something along the lines of, "well next time we just won't allow anyone into the beginner class unless they already know how to sew." What??? Does that make any sense to anyone else?? Never once did Vicky take responsibility for messing this up. I didn't get an apology or even a suggestion to minimize the chaos next time. I was met with an attitude when I questioned things and told that the girls could come back another day, buy more material, and pay an additional $5 to sew more. Vicky just said "there's nothing I can do about this." After THREE hours, most of the girls had finished TWO scrunchies each, and we finally left. They were frustrated. I was angry and felt the owner was inept. But, even after ALL of that, I was going to let it go and just chalk it up as a learning experience.... But then we got in the car. The first thing 2 of my girls told me was that Vicky talked to them quietly as they were buying additional material to take home. She asked them "So you know how to do social media and all that stuff?" When they said yes, Vicky told them to log onto a Yelp as soon as they leave make sure to leave her a high star review! Wtf??? That is next level inappropriate, especially for a fledgling business owner. We will NOT be returning. P.S. - I wish it were possible to leave a zero star for shabby rose/ Vicky, and a 5 star for Audrey. She was great, very professional and patient, and my girls would love to work with her again in the future, but through a different venue.
