During our conversation, you advised me that you would speak with a Dr. Michael Czeschin, DMD at the practice and get back to me regarding my concerns. I am writing to respectfully follow up, as I have not yet received a response. I am requesting reimbursement for the $300 I paid out of pocket for my recent visit. My concern is primarily the lack of communication regarding the visit being treated as a patient-pay expense. Had I been informed of this in advance, I would have had the opportunity to make an informed decision about whether to proceed with the appointment. I understand that patients with in-network insurance benefit from negotiated rates between their insurance providers and the dental practice. I also specifically asked on August 5 whether a reduced rate could be considered, but I did not receive a response to that question. I believe it is important for patients to be informed of their financial responsibility before services are provided, particularly when a visit will not be processed through insurance as the patient may reasonably expect. In my experience with healthcare providers, insurance information and expected patient responsibility are typically confirmed before treatment. I have been a loyal patient of South Hampton Dentistry for many years and have always valued the quality of care I have received, particularly from your hygienist. Had the circumstances been communicated to me beforehand, I would have been willing to discuss a self-pay arrangement and would have continued receiving care at your practice. I trusted this office because it came highly recommended, and as a Black-owned dental practice, I genuinely wanted to support them. Unfortunately, I now feel that the number of patients moving through the office was prioritized over the quality of each patient's care. Dr. Aubert completed my root canal and placed a crown on tooth #19. After the crown later came off, my new dentist examined the tooth and documented a thin layer of old cement, recurrent decay and soft dentin beneath the buildup, excess gutta-percha from the root canal, remnants of temporary filling material, and a cotton pellet still inside the tooth. The affected area reportedly extended beneath the buildup and was approximately seven millimeters deep. My new dentist had to remove the old buildup and decay, rebuild the core of my tooth with fiber-reinforced material, clean the crown, and cement it back into place. The prognosis for the tooth is now described as "guarded to good." I was also uncomfortable that someone who appeared to be a trainee performed part of my molding and crown-placement process, while the dentist mainly came in to examine the work. I cannot speak to the office's internal protocols, but patients should be clearly informed about who is treating them and receive honest explanations throughout every procedure. This experience taught me how difficult it can be to advocate for yourself when you do not understand dental terminology or procedures. Patients trust medical professionals to protect them--not to take advantage of what they do not know. I am sharing my experience because the outcome could have been much worse. I hope it encourages others to ask questions, request their records, and seek a second opinion when something does not feel right. I am incredibly grateful that I found Dental Partners of Creve Coeur. For the first time, a dentist took the time to explain everything clearly, show me what was happening, and correct the problems that were found. That honesty, patience, and transparency have made a life-changing difference for me.

From the moment I scheduled on the phone (they got me in within 2 days), to the waiting room (I waited 10 min max), to the dentist and pictures, I was completely impressed. The dentist (the youngest guy) listened to everything I had to say, joked with me and reassured me they'd figure out the problem. Coming from a "traditional x-ray" place, I was amazed at the technology here with digital images of my mouth that I COULD SEE and the 3D imaging of my entire mouth that he let me look at. The hygienist was also very nice although she didn't need to do much in my case. The dentist poked and prodded to help pinpoint the problem. In the end, I left pissed at my previous dentist as I now need a root canal (gasp! My first dental work in 30 years!) Now, at one point in my life my dad made me wear a mouthpiece to protect my teeth during everything. They were the most prized family possession: all those trips to the ortho, turns of the key to widen the jaw, retainer after retainer. A ROOT CANAL on the family treasure?! I was terrified despite being a regular and generally loving going to the dentist. The day of the procedure he reassured me of my feelings, "yep, they are no fun," and proceeded to start. As far as root canals go, I think this one went pretty well. They seemed very thorough and knowledgeable on the RC. The molar took a little over 2 hours, including getting the final crown (which they make at the location during the procedure). Total cost before insurance was about $2k. I immediately made an appointment for my next cleaning and gave a big finger to the previous dentist!

I also have tons of old dental work and over the past 25 yrs, other dentists have tried relentlessly to get me to remove old molar fillings and replace for no reason other than the "look". I never felt this pressure from Dr. D. He asked me if any were painful or bothering me, explained that if I wanted to get them replaced someday i could, and moved on. He is quick and matter of fact, yet is caring and answers questions graciously. He also sometimes answers the phone when you call! The hygienists here are professional and thorough. And while nothing about going to the dentist is comfortable, I at least felt confident that while here, my teeth were being treated well, I wasn't getting scammed out of my money, and they truly cared about me...well, my mouth, at least. :) The assistants were wonderful and sweet, and the dentist actually surprised me with his "next-door neighbor" demeanor. A nice guy. I ended up getting my teeth cleaned but then went back and got them to replace a cap on a chipped tooth. They did a fantastic job and really paid attention to detail. I've already recommended them to friends and I certainly recommend them to anyone who asks.
