Stopped by here as I just moved to Chicago and live down the street. Wanted to take a look at their bourbon selection. I was shocked at what I saw... they had a great selection of hard to find bourbons, but all were marked up ~3-400%. Well beyond their retail value and second hand value. Normally the weller 12 retails for $55 and goes for $100 but having it marked up to $250 is ridiculous. I had a conversation with the owner as he was working when I was there. He told me he can't come down in price, and that someone will buy it. I feel bad for who he suckers into this. read more

I am their semi- neighbor and I love them. First, they don't stare at you when you walk in, it's always filled with people so it's not dead silent. They are packed with stuff that isn't missing, unlike SOME mini marts I've been too. They have good prices for drinks and beers. They are pretty generic, but damn handy before wandering to Walgreens or CVS. Sometimes you can coax them into putting only $2 on your credit card--if you're special enough! read more

Been going here for 3 years. It's a great neighborhood corner store. They will have most of the basic necessities you are looking for.... and a great selection of beers, wines and liquors. As it's been mentioned, the people who work here are extremely friendly and you will want to give them your money. Their awesome quirk: They wear heavy metal tshirts (Iron Maiden) but they're always listening to opera or classical music. Makes me giggle every time I'm in there. read more

I used to live down the street from this place for three years, and one of the things I miss most about living in that apartment were my regular trips to Apple Bite. It's super conveniently located for all the regular items you need to visit the corner store to purchase, and it's all reasonably priced. And the stuff that is a little pricier is worth it because I could walk 1/2 a block in pajama pants to buy milk. Did I mention how awesome the guys are that work here? AVOID APPLE BITE MART! As Jeremy W. said, it is NOT the same Apple Bite since new owners took over. First, the old owners cared about the neighborhood and its people. They knew me, chatted with me, and were always helpful about buying bottles of wine for gifts. They knew--JUST KNEW, no questions asked-- when I had a breakup and gave me a pint of Ben and Jerry's for free. Their selection was good. Sure, the store was a little cramped, but they usually had what I needed in a pinch. Further, if I just came in to use the ATM, I wasn't accosted with a "find what you're looking for, miss?" when I was walking out. They only seem to care about people buying stuff. I once went in for something basic and they didn't have it. I walked to the door and again was accosted with a "find what you're looking for?" If I'm walking out empty-handed, then NO, I didn't find what I was looking for. The selection of everything has gone down the drain. Further, I sometimes feel judged when taking things to the register. I once bought four bottles of wine for a party I was having, and the guy looked at me like I was an alcoholic. I also feel like they're constantly watching my movements every time I shop there. I avoid Apple Bite now. It used to be a friendly place, a place where I knew I could get what I needed in a pinch. I've lived a block & a half away from the Apple Bite Mart for 3 1/2 years now, & I love the place. It's got everything a local corner store should have, plus so much more. They have a decent selection of pre-packaged food, plus all the basic kitchen necessities (milk, eggs, cheese, sugar, coffee, etc). They usually have a very small selection of produce up on the front counter, but typically only apples & bananas. They've got a pretty good assortment of toiletries, but the real gem (if this doesn't give away too much about my personal character) is the selection of alcohol! While technically it's a corner shop & not a liquor store, they do quite a job of hiding that fact! Very nice wine selection, lots of choices for hard booze, & plenty of varieties beer - well beyond the typical corner store selection. The staff is always friendly, & a few of them even learned my name & greet me accordingly. It's not at all uncommon to walk in and find one or two local friendly faces hanging out at the counter chatting, often with a dog to pet. Overall, it's a friendly place with everything you could want in a local corner store, plus enough booze to re-up any party you got going nearby (and it helps that they're open later than most of the areas liquor shops). Everything you want out of a corner shop. They have the essentials as well as a good selection of booze. Do they have anything that I can't get at CVS or Walgreens, no. But they're also closer and not some big corporation that probably is deforesting the amazon or killing puppies somewhere so I like to keep them around. This place has a small selection of liquor but it is a bit overpriced,(New Amsterdam fifth 13.99 when it is normally 9.99 a bottle if not cheaper at some places) but if you are in a pinch and missed all the other stores that's the price you pay for not planning ahead is my thought. The cashier was cool he talked to us and told us about some brands we hadn't heard of before. This isn't the first time I have visited this spot just the first time I checked in go figure I always try and do my check-ins. Anyway, I don't know if it is still true but the first time I stopped by they were pet friendly which was neat if you are out walking your family friend and decide you want a bit of the nip...lol, I will be back again if I forget to go to Kenwood and get a bit of a savings on my liquor but this place is great. read more

A gem of a corner store! First of all, the workers are extremely kind and helpful, and decent guys to talk sports with. Secondly, most importantly, the beer and wine selection is incredible! There are all sizes and packs of beer in everything from $5 6 packs of bud light to $18 craft brews. There's something for everyone and the price is completely reasonable. No, it's not Walmart prices, but it's a small business and the lines are one person deep at worst. There are plenty of wines, also with a wide range of prices and types. read more

A really awesome little corner strre. I live about half a block away, so this has become my go-to for booze as well as any snack cravings or last-minute needs. They used to have just a decent selection of beer in the refrigerated section, but they've just recently repurposed a whole row of shelving to house unchilled beers, which really expanded their selection. Solid liquor section - perhaps priced slightly higher than a big-box alcohol store like Binny's. The staff are super nice and they're always stocked up. Recommended! read more

A good neighborhood liquor store run by some great people. If you live in the vicinity they have even been known to sign for UPS packages for you and keep them behind the counter, rather than letting them sit unattended in the foyer of your building, or not get delivered at all. They have a pretty good selection of hooch and are willing to make recommendations. read more

I might not have stopped in here if it wasn't so close to my new place, but I'm glad I did - and I've relied on the place more than once when I was in a hurry. They've got a large selection of snacks - including some actual food (if mac and cheese counts). ALL of the employees here are extremely nice to my girlfriend and I. Also, our dog LOVES to visit the store. She's both allowed inside as long as she's well behaved and they give her treats as long as she sits for them. So convenient! A bottle of wine and some flowers from the nice people a few stores down definitely makes my girlfriend happy. They have also open up after closing if someones there and we knock.
