Came by here after joining a Sydney walking tour (which ended nearby) and feeling extremely hungry. My brother and I both ordered the lunch special ($23) which included a pasta/pizza and a drink. The margherita pizza was nice, from the crust thickness to the level of sauce. That plus a glass of white wine was a great combination to take a break from our city exploring. Did not try the pasta dish but there were no concerns there. Service was attentive as it seems we went at a quiet time (~ 1:30 pm) when there were just other groups seated and chatting. The seating is comfortable and the patio area does not have the greatest view, but just being in The Rocks district still has its perks. Recommend getting the specials! read more

Below average pasta place. Interesting appetiser trio of olives, pickled veggies and sundried tomatoes. Quite nice! But the vongole pasta was overcooked, dry and pretty bland. Turns out all the seasoning went into the carbonara, which was very heavy on the salt and and a bit scrambled. :( Pretty terrible for the price charged, compared to other pasta places. Service was ok, but could've been more attentive given the place was nearly empty. Staff seem like nice people though. The food was seriously good! We'd traveled all day, afterwards staggered to our hotel room, starving. We saw APPETITO across the street from the hotel and the menu looked ok, so we sat down at an outside table to peruse the menu. Steak and fries ? Sounds good, and when it came we inhaled it. Delicious steak, perfectly cooked, with greens on the side, and a huge order of the most delicious fries ever, crisp on the outside, fluffy inside. Food was good but our main waiter was pretty dismissive and confrontational. I wouldn't recommend this place over the numerous other options in the rocks area. There were two assisting waitresses who were great and very attentive, however. The main waiter (Carlos?) was openly annoyed when we asked him to correct an error in our bill. He said, ".... But It's only $1 different..." to which my thought was, "right - it's just $1 different" haha. Overall it was fine but we were ready to leave after our interactions with our waiter. Buon appetito, indeed! I had a great dining experience here today with my family. Decently priced restaurants that are open late on a Sunday are very rare in downtown Sydney, so I was already excited about eating at Appetito. The decor was classic and tasteful, with both upper, lower, and outside seating options available. We opted to sit outside in the back, located in an alley in the Rocks. Our order came out extraordinarily quickly considering how busy the restaurant was, and our waitresses were wonderful. Now, on to the food: Insalata: delicious greens and grapes; no regrets here. Also, the perfect amount of dressing. Tricolore pizza: the most delicious dish of the night! It's a thin crust with very little sauce, but everything from the crust to the three toppings worked together perfectly. I would come back to Appetito just for this. Risotto (special): slightly al dente rice with an interesting creamy sauce. However, even for a rather small portion, the flavors became a bit too overwhelming by the end of the meal. Fettuccine: wider noodles than I'm used to seeing, and a milder flavor overall. Decent, but probably wouldn't get again. Overall, a great dinner! read more

Great Italian in the Rocks area. We sat upstairs as it was a fairly busy Friday night and we didn't have a booking. This was just bear the kitchen and was fairly warm however the main dining areas were lovely and cool. There are outdoor seating areas out the back which would be nice for a warm evening meal. The service was fairly prompt and friendly. The food was homely Italian with fresh flavours and ingredients. Well worth checking out this Italian for a nice meal with friends or a quick lunch during the week when they have lunch specials :) read more

My husband and I took advantage of the daily special in the Apetito bar, which happened to be $10 burgers on Fridays. I had a chicken burger and my husband had hamburger. The burgers were great and we received excellent service from our server. If I am ever back in the Sydney area again, I would try Apetito's Italian food in the restaurant downstairs as they nailed the burgers. read more

As someone from the US this place seemed very expensive, but maybe $23 for a Margherita Pizza and $26 for Lasagna is normal here? We discussed that the prices were probably high to pay the waiters since Australians don't tip...but then we were hit with a $3 sitting fee each. For those expensive prices we would expect a little more ambiance or service. All other tables had salt, pepper, a candle, and little plant thing - our table was bare. Then we asked for more of the olive bread (the "complimentary appetizer"...it's just bread buddy...) and the waiter said he would check to see if he could. He came back with more of the bread, and then later another waiter gave more bread to the nearby tables, so I'm not sure why he "had to check" if he could give us more bread. The wine was terrible, and the glasses had a cheesy line on the glass so they don't give you too much. I'd expect that from a sports bar, not an "upscale" place that charges such high prices for their food. Bad Taste in my mouth.... We accompanied our out of town guests to this restaurant. The restaurant spans over 3 floors with a smart interior. Mains are from about $25 to $40 ranging for pasta, pizza's and main dishes (scalopini's etc). I had the Risotto with Canadian scallops. The scallops were cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth, the flavor of the risotto was lovely and smooth and i liked how the mushroom was subtle but noticeable. My hubby has the tri pizza, three different flavors, spinach, mushroom and tomato and onion. I took bits of all three. The dough was a little dry and the onion and tomato was the best flavor. We had a bottle of the Deakin Shiraz which was smooth on the palate and went well with our food. The server's were decent, but lagged as the night got on and our table was forgotten, so no water was replenished and we had to ask for the bill. This is where I found it quite upsetting, we were charged a "sitting fee" to eat there. On the bill there was an amount of $22 for our group of 6 to eat at this restaurant. The manager didn't try to explain why the charge the amount and simply put it on the bill. We were not a walk in and had a reservation ahead of the evening. To which we were told nothing about. Be warned, this to me looks like a dodgy scam for tourists that dine in this area and think this is normal Australian practice. It is not. I certainly will never go back to this establishment, and I will forewarn anyone thinking of eating here. read more

I had the fettichini alfredo-adding prawn instead of chicken- and it was amazing!! It was lighter sauce than what we have back in the states, i literally ate the whole thing..it was SO good. This place may be expensive but it worth it. We visited for lunch, I had Tagliatelle bolognese ( flat noddles with a tomato sauce and meat) it was delicious and filling. The spouse had the Prosciutto pizza and she could only eat half but they packed it to go. All this for $Aud 23 each and that included a drink, it was a special. A bit of a mixed reviews. Food was good, service was not. Gnocchi was tasty and my fiance had the risotto which was a bit flat, but a little salt brought it to life. Eggplant she had was tasty and garlic bread was buttery and nice. Chocolate Mouse cake we shared was good as well. Service was not so hot. 4 groups all sat about the same time, we were group 2. Group 1 ordered and had food in 10 minutes. We ordered 3 minutes after group 1. Group 3 was 5 minutes after us. Not sure about group 4 at this point. Group 1 was done eating, group 3 was 3/4 done and we still had yet to get the bread. Group 1 left. Group 2 paid and left. Group 4 was almost done with food and we had to ask again for appetizers after sitting and waiting for 20 min. Groups 1, 3, and 4 were all gone and we just got our main dishes. Group 3 had the same dishes that we did. In all it was a very long dinning experience over 75 min. where it should have been maybe 35 to 40 minutes. Manager offered complementary desert and we took him up on it since we had already changed the rest of our plans for the evening. I will look to try others in the future before going back. read more

The new location is a fantastic upgrade to their old one... larger and more modern than the old location... but with the same high quality, reasonably priced Italian food and drink... all served by polite, attentive and (seemingly very) authentic Italian waiters! The only improvement I recommend... put paper towels in the washroom to dry hands!!! No one hates to see unsanitary hand dryers in a public washroom more than me - I don't care if you bought fancy ones! There IS a reason why hand dryers are never found in a hospital - there is no substitute for paper towels! read more

Service was good but food was terribly salty and inedible. Had Chicken cacitore with polenta chips - the chips and sauce were so salty I couldn't eat them. The chicken seemed very tender however had to scrap the sauce off. My partner had Bolognese and again was so salty that he didn't eat any. The food is spectacular! We stayed in Sydney while on vacation and ate here two nights in a row. The pasta is made in house with just about everything else. Appetizers, entrees, and desserts were all amazing. The only downside is the service. The hostess was great and the food comes out quickly but the servers don't check on your after you've received your food (to see if you like it or need anything else).
