We stayed here this weekend and booked through an Air BNB package. The owner of the unit was very helpful (although I'm not listening to his food suggestions ever again) and the binder he left with instructions, parking passes, keycards, etc. was all we needed to navigate through our stay. We were on the 4th floor with a nice balcony overlooking the pool and hot tub area. The room was very nice. Clean, and spacious. The bed was a king and was very comfortable, the bathroom was large and had a nice tub and separate shower, there was a kitchenette, and tv's in both main area and bedroom. Nice little faux fireplace that was on nearly the entire time we were there, it was a chilly night. The chilly night did not stop us however from testing out the hot tub. So for a bit of the negative, the hot tub we were in was set to 94 degrees and there was no way to set it higher or to make the jets turn on. There are two hot tubs, we were in the larger one. We would have just switched to the other (which was hotter and had the jets operational) but lets say that one comfortably sat 8 people, there was a good 14 at least in there. Hard pass on the Covid lover's tub. One of the elevators was out of service which made getting around significantly harder, and the one that was working sounded like it was from 1492. I've literally never been on a more rickety sounding elevator, and I've been on many. We also tried to find "kink" BBQ restaurant on property for dinner that night. Wanted to check out an Italian place in Warwick but that they didn't have any availability so we were basically already settling for this (it was a birthday dinner, we wanted something a bit nicer) and there is exactly zero signage for that place anywhere. We GPS'ed, pulled into the lot, and saw a clearly closed building that just had a sign that said South. Nothing about the restaurant at all. Fixing these 3 issues makes this a 5 star experience.

Man, some of these reviews! You wake up to find maintenance men in your room? Were you on drugs? I find that very hard to believe. Anyway, my family and I stayed at the Appalachian Hotel this past winter for a quick weekend ski getaway. This review is for the hotel only, not for Mountain Creek. We stayed on the mountain side, which has a clear view of the sugar slope. If you know the mountain, there's not much to see, it's a small park, so complaints that you can't see the slopes are a bit unfair. The place is not cheap, but of course it's expensive, it's the only property that lets you walk right out onto the slopes, that's a lot of convenience. The pool is heated, I think it's saltwater. They have two hot tubs, one's more of a standalone and the other is larger, like a mini-pool. We loved having them, esp after beating ourselves up on the snow. There's a game room that the kids enjoyed, and the suite we stayed in was clean and roomy. The front desk staff was friendly and responsive. Seriously - with some of these previous reviews, I wonder if we stayed in the same hotel! It could be that AB&B people have a different experience - I asked a question at the front desk, got some side-eye, but the staff changed their tune when I told them I was a guest of the hotel. Like I said, helpful & friendly. I'm not sure if some people expect a much better experience, like this was Aspen or something. It's Jersey! My wife was talking to a guy on the chairlift, who was bitching about the mountain, she said we came in from Long Island, and he asked why we didn't go to Vermont. Because we didn't want to waste time in the car? But I said I wouldn't review the mountain, so I won't. We liked this hotel, though!

This is a fantastic hotel. The staff at the front desk really made our vacation the best it could be. Thank you Francis and Chris, along with the other staff who were also amazing. The suite we booked was 2 bedroom. It was spacious, spotless and very comfortable. The facilities are great, they have something for everyone. We highly recommend this hotel and we will definitely be back. Thank you Appalachian for making our ski trip so perfect.

I am not sure what everyone is crying about in these reviews... I spent a 4-day weekend here and my only regret is not getting a room with a balcony. The reservation was made on the Appalachian Hotel property site. Aside from the contract being slightly intimidating, the result far exceeded any expectations I had. We followed through with all instructions provided to us via email. It was smooth checking ourselves in, and checking ourselves out. The room (Room 261) was immaculate. Super clean and 100% stocked with anything that one might need or accidentally forget. The room was similar to a studio suite: full kitchen, full bath; pots, pans and dishware included. Our view wasnt "grand" but we weren't in the room that much nor did we care; we were busy floating in the huge and heated (salt-water?) pool. There is also an equally enjoyable hot tub right next to the pool. The amenities were great and it is literally right across the street from Mountain Creek. Check in was at 3pm, we were able to get in a few minutes sooner and check out was at 11am. The hotel and it's grounds are beautiful, the staff was kind, the patrons were as well. There were weddings going on and families around but it was not loud. I would definitely recommend staying here; even if it's just to escape the city/work life. Safe for solo-travelers, couples and families. Again, my ONLY regret is not spending the extra $ on a balcony, would have been nice to have morning breakfast out there. This place was worth every cent.

Anil (the owner) was my host for an overnight stay and I can not say enough about the facilities , the cleanliness, the peace and quiet I experienced, The parking could not be more convenient, the beautiful , serene views over the mountains while relaxing on the gorgeous deck are amazing. The property is stunning and expansive, with amazing fall views. Our rooms were comfortable with lovely balconies, and the bathrooms were nice, though more counter space would help. As a hospitality professional, I noticed both positives and a few areas for improvement. Because the resort is so large, room locations matter, guests with mobility concerns should be placed closer to elevators. In addition, giving a couple connecting rooms with their parents is a lack of common sense. We were also given the wrong directions to the wedding, causing us to miss the ceremony, which was very disappointing. Overall, the resort is grand, well-kept, full of things to do, and staffed by friendly people. With a bit more attention to detail, it could easily become an outstanding destination.

Called multiple times to get shower gel and shampoo refilled and it took all day. Had to skip dinner at their restaurant because my hair was too oily from an earlier treatment and I couldn't wash it out. Sounds petty except when you realize you're paying six hundred a night! Lots of little inconveniences. Main floor before rooms smelled like chlorine from pool. Breakfast feels hectic. Have to check in with hostess to be seated. If you can find her. Most key staff are overwhelmed and apathetic. Normally I don't care about pealing paint on walls or ceiling but thought I'd mention that too. Loud noises came through from floor above. Very loud mini fridge. Didn't sleep so great first night. Overpriced everything!! I felt I paid twice as much for everything during my stay. I didn't think the spa was worth it. Had to walk downstairs to resolve an issue at the salon/spa and then wait back in line for twenty minutes at front desk to check out. No available luggage racks so had to lug all my $&@# from the room to my car in the freezing cold to cap off my stay. Though I can sympathize with the gargantuan duties the front desk has to handle nonstop, the minuscule discount they gave me was appalling. I was so livid, angry and drained after such a disappointing second day. From figuring out seating in an overly crowded breakfast buffet, then a massage that was nowhere near worth the price, to being locked out of my room before checkout just as I was transporting my bags. At this point I had had enough with being surrounded by sniffling, coughing, crying kids. I'm surprised I didn't break down in tears myself after they asked how I'd be paying. I almost wish I had two thousand dollars in pennies to dump on the floor in front of them! (Regards to Barbara, Rachel and the two waiters from breakfast who gave their all and a couple others.) There WERE staff that cared. But also staff like the housekeeping manager that can &*@$-off for lying to my face. It was not worth what I paid. To the owners, I'd like to ask, what tf? If someone has the guts from your team to contact me, feel free. I'll be polite. Maybe we can hash things out. Maybe it was a series of badly timed everything? I truly wanted to like this place. On a positive note, I did enjoy my balcony view.

My cellphone battery died and I was left stranded in the middle of a snowstorm AT 3AM!!!!!! Thankfully a stranger at a nearby gas station guided me towards a highway that would lead me to more hotels that were actually 24 hours. Later when Sussex Motel opened, I called and explained my situation to the representative. The woman I spoke to cancelled my reservation as we were on the phone and said I would get my refund within 10 business days. That was January 28th and it is now March 2nd. After 10 days I called for weeks, and they refused to answer the phone. When they finally answered I was told that I should have received it and that they will speak to their superior to see what happened. When I called again for an update, I was told that I would not be getting my money back and that there was some sort of mix up with my name which made absolutely no sense to me. I paid 90$ for a room I never even stayed in, for a motel that doesn't even stay open for 24hours. After telling me for more than a month I would get my refund they turned around and said that I wasn't and stole my money, claiming my refund went against cancellation policy. If that were true, then why was I told that I would be receiving a refund to begin with? DISGUSTING AND BEYOND UNPROFFESSIONAL. I reported this motel to the better business bureau, The Advertiser News North, and Sussex County Court for stealing my money and having misleading information online. My lawyer is reaching out to them as well and they aren't answering. I hope this review protects others from having a horrible experience with Sussex Motel.

We started watching Netflix on the big flat-screen TV, using our own sign-in. My partner got up and came back to catch her leg on a sharp piece of the metal bed frame, causing her to bleed. Feeling uneasy about spending the night there, we decided to leave. However, no one answered the bell at the front desk or the phone. After 10 minutes on hold with the rewards Service Center, I was told I needed to contact the hotel for any refund. I could also try calling Customer Relations. I then called Custome Relations and after 15 minutes on hold I finally got someone to lodge a formal complaint. They also informed me that the Christmas Day reservation had been entered in by the General Manager based on a phone call but no name was associated with the phone call. The first time I ever called this hotel was after I had been charged for a night not staying there. Customer Relations told me the hotel had 72 hours to contact me and resolve the situation. This is the only positive part of the story. Thirty minutes later I received a call from Barbara and she said she would be entering in a refund today.
