Definitely worth a stop when in the Waterbury area. Smugglers' Notch Distillery is in the same…read moreplaza as Cabot Creamery and Lake Champlain Chocolates, so there is a lot to see and taste here. After looking at the very attractive displays showcasing each product made at the Distillery, my daughter and I opted to share a tasting. We chose the Moroccan Rose and Grapefruit Flavored Vodka to start and I loved the distinct fruity taste without the sugary sweetness. Next was the Maple Gin, which was lovely as well. Our server told us she likes to mix it with muddled blueberries and ginger beer for a refreshing summertime mule, and I agree that does sound delicious. Our third taste was the Bourbon Maple Cream Liquor, which was so delicious, and we finished the tasting with the Maple Cram Liquor, which was smooth, sweet, and went down very easily. We were impressed with the cleanliness of the store - everything was sparkly clean and shining. The layout of the displays was so attractive. We will definitely stop there again on our next trip to VT.

The tasting room is small with a single counter for tasting and a wall of bottles for purchase but it's well worth the wait if needed. You can even sample the syrups while you wait for free! Our hostess was very informative about all of the spirits and very appreciative of each of her customers. She talked a bit fast but that's understandable in the environment, it's busy!! We each did a tasting, the special tasting and the regular, so we got to try almost everything! Our cabinet and fridge got a few new additions with the canned vodka sodas and a single barrel. I highly recommend a stop and a tasting of the Hopped Gin, whether you're a gin drinker or not!! We visited in August 2024.

En route back to Killington from the Woodchuck Cidery, we noticed Ripton Mountain Distillery and…read moredecided to pop in for a quick drink. We are from CT and got to chatting with the owner, who also originally hails from CT, small world. Ripton Mountain Distillery makes several flavors of moonshine - they had cherry, apple pie, and creamsicle on our visit. They also have beer, wine, other beverages like White Claws, and food. It's a full service establishment rather than just a distillery. They have indoor and outdoor seating as well. They offered for us to do a tasting of the three flavors of moonshine - $3 each. I said I didn't want mine straight up so they made me a tasty cherry moonshine/club soda/lime drink which basically tasted like soda. It was very good! My husband drank his straight up and said they were smooth. He loved them so much that he got two bottles to take home, and a T-shirt. We had dinner reservations back in Killington, so we didn't order any food, but the menu looked good. Everyone was very nice and they even gave us some complimentary popcorn to munch on with our drinks. I would definitely recommend a stop here if you are passing through or staying in the area.

Ripton Mountain is represented as a distillery online but is actually a very trashy dive bar. I…read morewanted to try Ripton's house-made moonshine and buy a bottle or two but was unable to get past the waitress's hostility. She seemed offended that I wanted the local alchol instead of getting food and a jack and coke. I walked in and was immediately hit by the reek of tobacco smoke. When I sat at the bar I asked for a tasting and the bartender yelled at me about how they don't give away free alcohol. That's fine. A lot of distilleries charge for tastings and I told her I would be happy to pay for a tasting. When I asked what they have she threw a food menu at me. The menu was just food, and didn't even list the house made drinks. I gave up and left as she yelled at me.

I've thrown up once from alcohol. It was on my 21st birthday some decade ago on Burnett's vodka. I…read morehave never had a sip of Burnett's since. Over the years, I've drunk in moderation, and have had a fair variety of vodkas, but I'm certainly not the world's premier expert on vodka. But.. if I had to choose between my 21st birthday Burnett's or the lemon vodka by GMD, I'd choose Burnett's. GMD's vodka doesn't taste anything like what you'd expect from an acidic lemon. It tastes spoiled.. it tastes like the vodka was distilled in a sneaker. They seem genuinely interested in their craft, but the product I consumed was arguably one of the worst things I have ever taken in. I went out of this way to write this review because purchasing this was for sure my worst regret of 2021 (all purchases combined.. both alcohol and not).

The tastings were all good. We ended up getting a couple bottles and I am savoring the corn whiskey. My wife chose the vanilla vodka which is good. I highly recommend stopping here.
