We've been talking for a few years about getting it restored. Upholsterers say, "You'd be better off just buying a new one" but we couldn't find one we liked. Arnold, his Dad, and their upholsterers REBUILT our chair and recovered it, mostly in leather. The patterned fabric covers the back too. And they repaired the mechanicals and re-finished the legs. We had agreed that if one hide wasn't enough to cover everything that we would use that fabric for the back and the WINGS on the sides. When they came back and said that still wasn't going to be enough and recommended the sides under the arms, I balked at first. I said the fabric was supposed to be an ACCENT if we HAD to. I felt like this was too much. 1/2 the chair was now fabric. But it was going to add ~$300 for a 2nd hide and my wife thought it would be OK so I relented. I'm glad I did. I don't think this is too much.   It IS as comfy as we had hoped. The mechanism is like silk. It feels good. It SMELLS good. Probably good for another 30 years!

I asked one question, " How do we secure the cushion to the chair". Ties wouldn't work because the chair seat being indented towards the top. He said no problem. We'll custom cut the indention so the cushion will slide right into the seat. Perfect! I then spent 30 minutes or so going through more books and ringed binders than I could count before landing on a fabric that was just right. Everything got measured and ordered. I paid and off I went. 10 days later I got a call that the the cushions were ready. The custom cut was great and the over 2" cushion is very comfortable . What a success. I can't recommend anyone more highly. I do a lot of decorating and it's fun finding vendors who know what they're doing. Give Artzy a shot!

They charge $25 for dining chairs and $125 for arm chairs. I got a box covered for $15. They were quick and the results looked pretty good. However, since they are a 2 man shop, you'll need to call ahead and make sure they're not at lunch or on a delivery run. I had to wait a long time for them to come back. Update: Forgot to say that you should bring your own materials. The prices quoted were just for labor. Luckily, this is down the street from the fabric district which is next to the stripper district.

Talked to the guy there had a quote and set up a schedule for pick sofa up. On scheduled day he called me at last minute said needed to reschedule because was raining. I didn't felt it was a good sign at that moment because it wasn't raining it was just cloudy outside. But I still agreed to reschedule for next day at 10AM. Guess what? The guy NEVER show up!
