The hotel is situated on a nice part of the hagley road. The service is excellent and the staff are always helpful. The food is very high class and the hotel is spotlessly clean. Good if you are in Birmingham to work but not very family friendly (children are likely to be bored!). Very nice Hotel away from the hassle of the city!

Lovely hotel in a quiet part of Edgbaston. Stayed here for 2 nights while visiting the University…read moreof Birmingham. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The best part was the included breakfast- on Sundays a full English breakfast is included with the price of your room and the food was all very good. You do have to do a bit of walking to get around if you don't have a car, but it is conveniently located between the University and the city center, and a relatively short walk to the five ways train station. It is also close to bus routes, and cab rides to the city center are inexpensive. I would stay here again; highly recommended.

The staff go the extra mile to make sure you have a pleasant stay. The rooms are safe. The heating is always on though and had to call down twice to ask them to turn it off. They have a really nice breakfast with hot breakfast and cold. The beds have a really horrible picnic style blanket which I didn't like. You have to leave by 10am which the other hotels I have been to on this road you can stay till 11.00 or 11.30. Apart from that its really nice and recommended.

It's family-run by a couple who have been running it for 35 years (so they told us), and it looks like they haven't done any work to it in that time. The decor is dark and dingy, and it almost feels like there is a sepia-tinged miasma permeating the whole building. My small single room was down an equally small corridor at the top of a narrow staircase, with one partition wall actually forming the corridor and the door marking the end of the corridor - clearly a larger area had been sub-partitioned to create more rooms. I couldn't see any obvious fire exit routes either, but I didn't spend enough time in the building to worry about those. The bathroom - no, let's not even glorify it with the term 'bathroom' - was so small you wouldn't be able to dry yourself off in it after using the shower. My wardrobe at home is larger. There was a kettle and a mug for tea, both sat in a holder on the wall. The bed was lumpy and the furniture tired-looking. As for the wallpaper...urgh. The landlady wasted no time in laying down the rules as soon as we arrived - breakfast was only served until 9am, and not a moment later. "I'm up at 6am, I'm not spending any more time on breakfast", we were told. I'm sorry, do you actually work in the hospitality industry? Call this good customer relations? There was a bar in the TV room, which the husband would open by request. Sadly I didn't get to sample it, as I checked out almost immediately and went to a Travelodge instead. Ghastly.

I booked my stay using booking.com and was going to stay Monday and Tuesday - I was going to visit…read morea friend who was sick and he died before I arrived so I phoned the Hotel (from Canada) at 6am and informed the lady who answered the telephone my booking reference and that I was cancelling my stay - she said fine, I specifically asked if the room was cancelled and if there was a cancellation fee and she informed me that the room was cancelled and that there would NOT be a cancellation fee. Today I get an e mail from booking.com charging me for a noshow - I telephoned the hotel and the SAME woman informs me she does not remember the conversation and that I should have gone to the web site to cancel - she did NOT inform of this when I telephoned previously - I am mad - and would not trust this hotel as far as I could throw it.............
