This was my first time staying at an airport hotel; Hilton Garden Inn Birmingham Airport did not…read moredisappoint by all means and exceeded my expectations in many factors, I would say it is the best Hilton I have stayed at in Birmingham, and I much prefer this hotel to the Hampton on Broad Street or the Garden Inn at Brindleyplace. The hotel opened in 2018, and still feels pretty new and modern to this day. The location is fantastic for Birmingham Airport, it is a couple of minutes away from the main Terminal, next to the West Midlands Police building. From the Airport, you can get the Air-Rail link which takes you to Birmingham International in just 90 seconds. The average price is around £80-100, although the rates can obviously exceed that, looking at rates in November 2021, it does reach over £250 and even up to £375, at least once a week. I would say the hotel is worth nowhere near that price and if I had paid that sum, I'd be demanding my money back. This is not the most luxurious of hotels, but it is a good, sold airport hotel. The room had very good noise-cancelling, the big thick windows and doors, meant no noise was heard externally, the only internal noise was after 11:30 am when housekeeping was working the room, which wasn't too bad. Sadly, my room was overlooking the car park, rather than the run-way. I think they should give you the option or ability to reserve a room with a better view when using the online check-in. My room was comfortable, it was a little basic but still had everything I needed, the 25 sq meters room was larger compared to the city centre, it had a comfortable bed, blackout blinds, a desk, a mini-fridge, a large TV, plenty of plug sockets with USB charging. The staff here were very friendly and happy to help, the lobby did always seem super busy with people checking in and out at all hours, but that's the Airport for you. It seems to be full of travellers and flight crew, and then there's me just staying at the Airport for the sake of it! I did not use the food and beverage services in the hotel, but that wasn't through a lack of trying. I was upset that breakfast ended very early on the weekend at 10 am (Most hotels generally run breakfast until 11), food also stops at 10 pm at night, they do have a couple of sandwiches at Reception but with the kitchen closed and nowhere nearby to get food (The limited choice of shops/restaurants at the airport are still closing early, generally around the last flight and before 10 pm), this meant I went to sleep on an empty stomach. I did have a couple of problems with my stay: - The hotel is one of the few hotels I've noticed which still takes a card hold, having a debit card meant I am unable to use the funds until it is released (generally takes 30 days), the hold is done per day meaning on a one night stay, two holds are taken. At £50 each this isn't cheap - Food and Beverage issues as previously discussed. - Housekeeping entered my room when I was still sleeping, I was told this was because they were not aware I had a late checkout however this was still frustrating that they couldn't wait for me to check out. - The bathroom door did not shut properly, no big deal as I was staying on my own. 4* - Overall, I was super impressed by the HGI at Birmingham Airport, it's a strong four-rating for sure, there are obviously some issues that need to be addressed, but I would definitely stay here again

The room was of a good size and neat and tidy the only issue thy had left the window open. I guess to vent the room, covid and all that! But it did mean that the room was absolutely freezing!! Breakfast was a bog standard affair the usual cooked offerings along side cereal, toast, yogurts and fruit. This hotel definitely does what it says on the tin and in a very good location.

There was no wifi in my room which in 2013 I don't find acceptable; I travel with an iPad and you can't plug that in to an ethernet cable. It turns out there was free wifi in the lobby but I wasn't told that at check-in and there was no information about it in my room. I would have gladly sat and done some work in the lobby if I'd known. I was there on business and in my business I NEED internet. The check-in staff were friendly enough but the wait staff in the restaurant I don't think have ever heard the phrase "the customer is always right." Again it's an airport hotel--I tempered my expectations of the extremely over-priced food. My colleagues had a few simple complaints and each time they were met with wait staff that challenged them instead of just correcting the mistake. The food was okay but not near worth what was charged. The room itself was fine but the hallways were musty and smelly. The TV in the room did not get any of the terrestrial channels clearly--the picture was fuzzy, would come in and out of colour and pop and crackle. Considering I had no wifi to stream tv as I normally would this was less than ideal. The shower temperature did not regulate. It intermittently would go from scalding to freezing with no warning. While low water pressure is something I might expect in a hotel ever changing water temperature is not. My room was very noisy with the obvious boom of aircraft taking off punctuating the night and morning but also it seemed I was below a conference room perhaps as I was also woken up by the noise of furniture being rearranged above me with banging and scraping. I don't like writing bad reviews. The free shuttle to/from the NEC/Aiport/Station was nice and it was great to be able to have breakfast in bed included in my room cost but again the coffee that came with my breakfast was awful. No amount of sugar or milk could make it drinkable. It's an airport hotel--don't plan on eating on site, bring ear plugs and be prepared for limited internet access in room (if you do have a cable you'll need to pay £15 to access it!) and it would be a good place if you have an early flight I guess.

It's nice that they leave you that note in the bathroom reminding you that they have extra toiletries downstairs...forgot your toothbrush, your razor, maybe some feminine stuff?? They've got it downstairs for you and would be glad to help you out. Awesome, but here's what's different...When I go overseas, I'm always reminded of that episode of the "Dave Chappelle Show" where he suggests that "White people don't use washcloths..." Where are the washcloths, really? Don't worry Holiday Inn Express, so many hotels are like that...And then when I want to wash my face, there is no bar soap, just this a pumpable reservoir of liquid soap fastened to the wall. Okay, I get it...but now it's shower time. Look around and there's another reservoir filled with hair shampoo, face soap, and liquid deodorant soap...Wait, it's all the same stuff!! Okay, the rant is over...the fact is, I enjoyed staying here... __________________ Notes: -The staff was EXTREMELY helpful...whether it be in arranging transportation, suggesting local restaurants & shopping, etc...or even one night around 1AM, I needed to purchase a some computer accessories, and not only did they arrange a taxi for me, but they called one of few places in Birmingham that was open 24 hour to make sure the item was in stock, etc... - There is a hotel bar down stairs...open until around 4AM...note that late in the evening, you MUST bill your drinks to your room as they no longer accept cash or credit card payment. - Breakfast was pretty reasonable, and like all Holiday Inn Express locations, it was included in the cost of your stay. - Location was about 5 minutes away from the NEC...great! But keep in mind that the way that this part of Birmingham is laid out, nothing is within walking distance...there is one restaurant, but everything else seemed at least 10-20 minutes away... - Wireless internet is expensive at £15 for 24 hours...there are different rates, but there are limitations... - The hotel was otherwise, quite budget friendly... - The special wipes on the back of the toilet, for the ladies, was a nice touch...

Consider this email as a formal complaint against Travelodge UK Birmingham UK airport. I checked…read moreinto my room on 21 Aug. At that time. I informed the front desk staff member that I was traveling out of town 23-25 Aug and I did not want housekeeping to clean the room. He told me housekeeping would not clean the room for 7 days and advised me to place a do not disturb sign on my room door to prohibit entry from other staff members. At no time, was I informed by hotel staff that contractors were allowed to enter my room without my permission and a posted do not disturb sign. When I went on my trip 23-25 Aug, I returned to my room on 25 Aug and was alarmed to discover there was an unauthorized entry into my room. This was evident due to the celing light in the bathroom flashing like a strobe light, trash can placed in shower, and debri in sink. Refer to the attached photos as evidence. I reported this incident to the night manager on 25 Aug and she did not have an explanation on why there was an unauthorized entry in my room other than to state, "it was bizarre." However, she provided me another room to move to, took photos of the disturbed bathroom, and told me she would report the incident to the day manager for further investigation. My wife was very traumatized by this incident and she wanted to leave the hotel because she believed someone planted a video recording device in the light fixture that was directly in the line of sight of the shower area. I convinced her to remain at the hotel overnight and I spoke to a day supervisor on 26 Aug. He told me the day manager was not on duty and would return on 27 Aug; however, he stated the hotel was undergoing rennovations and the maintenance workers are allowed to enter guest rooms without advance notice and without guest authorization and a posted do not disturb sign. I explained to the supervisor that I should have been notified by hotel staff about the maintenance entry into guest rooms when I checked in but I was not informed in advance. Additionally, I was not provided evidence by hotel staff that a maintenance worker entered my room or an unauthorized hotel staff member entered my room and planted a video recording device in the bathroom celing light fixture facing the shower. In other words, I was not provided evidence that this was not a criminal act. I spoke with the day manager on 27 Aug regarding this incident. She argued with me and interrupted me during my explanation of this incident. Additionally, she dismissed the incident as a maintenance worker was in the room replacing the light fixture and left the job unfinished in the bathroom. I asked the manager to provide me with evidence that the maintenance worker entered my room with the room card. She did not provide that to me because she stated that she needed to further investigate the matter. As a result, I am not convinced this incident was not a criminal act until I see the evidence. Of course, there is a possibilty the manager may cover up the criminal act by deleting evidence because it is bad for future business. Additionally, the management staff at Travelodge needs to take the following actions immediately in order to improve the safety and satisfaction of their customers. 1. Day managers and night managers need to share i information regarding the concerns and needs of their guests. 2. Managers need to inform their guests upon checkin there will be hotel and contractor staff entering guest rooms without advanced notice and without permission from the guests 3. Install video recording devices in the hallways of the guest rooms to ensure the safety of your guests and video capture unathorized access and record suspects of criminal acts in the guest rooms. All luxury hotels have these video recording devices in place and throughout the city

The room was clean but cold. The heather is efficient to keep the room warm. No towels provided. You are expected to have your own towel. (At least I did not see there is one) Simply if you need a quick sleep place and you have an early flight. It's ideal place to stay given the price.

A beautiful building in a beautiful setting…read more I visited this place one Saturday afternoon (unplanned) for a spot of tea and cake. Unfotunately there was no individual cakes or cookies available (shock, horror!) but they were able to bring us out a selection of small desserts from their afternoon tea range presented on a slate - how delightful! The desserts were very tasty and went down a treat! The pot of tea was good too. I really felt at home here as I sat in the armchair by the fire. I was impressed by the staff and they explained each dessert in turn. A place I would happily return to again. A walk around the gardens will have to be done too.

They closed the bar at 12 and the resident's bar refuses to serve because there is one random couple that hasn't closed their tab for dinner. I'm with 30 people, ready to spend a minimum of £1,000 and they can't be bothered to figure out how to serve us. If you're looking for a place with a great view, this is your spot. Unfortunately, that's all they'll offer. I also spent £28 on 3 glasses of wine. But the view is wonderful. This property should get 5 stars, but because of the service it gets 3. I'll bet if the servers wages were based on tips like in America, they'd care a bit more.

Check in was very speedy and the staff were welcoming. We were located on the second floor and there are stairs or one lift. I would imagine that waiting for the lift may present difficulties during busy periods, but it was fine when we were there. The bathroom was modern and well equipped with bath and shower and separate shower attachment. Complimentary shower gel/bath gel and soap was provided (Arran Aromatics). The bedroom was very nicely fitted and the bed was comfortable and had additional pillows located in the wardrobe. There was a flat screen TV and a writing desk and an iPod docking station. There was also tea and coffee making facilities. The temperature control was great. We had a bed and breakfast rate of £38 per night for a double room (brililant value) and the breakfast was lovely. There was a choice of fresh fruit, fruit salad, juices, pastries, cereals and full English breakfast. All nicely cooked and hot. If you fancied a quick coffee, there is a Starbucks located in the main lobby where you can get a snack and a coffee. There is also the Pub where you can get pub food as well as The Verve Grill for dinners. They have some excellent value deals on meals. One of the offers in The Pub was their Friday night "Burger Me" deal where you could get a burger for £1. The hotel also has a fully equipped leisure centre with pool and use is included in the price. We had a lovely stay and wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel to anyone visiting the area.

The only thing I can say about Ibis is that you always know what to expect. Ibis is quite consistent in service and accommodations. The rooms are always quite simple but very clean and tidy. Best is that they have free wifi, which should be the case everywhere now but just isn't--so thank you Ibis for being ahead of the curve there! Ibis is probably the only place where I have a restful night's sleep--as funny as it sounds, they have the best pillows! The hotel is also either very quite or well insulated. Breakfast is wonderful! A warm Full English Breakfast is offered along with cereals, yogurts, cheeses, breads, porridge, jams. Different teas and coffees are also on hand. Anyone can find something here as there is a lot of choice. For about 100eur, and right on the airport premises this place is hard to beat!

Location wise, it's around five minutes from New St or Snow Hill stations and very central. It's as close as you get to a leafy spot in central Birmingham. The rooms are pretty standard, but quite well soundproofed, and I didn't suffer from external noise or that from other rooms. Free wifi was perfectly adequate for email and messaging. The beds are very comfortable, though neither the 'soft' or standard 'hard' pillows quite do it for me. The problem for sleeping, however, was the noise of the heating/cooling unit fan - an irritating whine which meant I had to turn it off to go to sleep and then awoke at 4am too warm. There was also a peculiar, intermittent watery noise, which I presume was someone flushing or washing elsewhere in the building, though it may have been the air-conditioning. Breakfast was ok, a fairly standard buffet, though Europeans would bemoan the lack of cheese and cold meats. I returned from getting a second cup of coffee to find the waitress clearing away the toast I had just buttered, although she apologised and offered to get me another. So, ok for the price (£118 including breakfast on a weeknight) but not outstanding value given the imperfect sleep.

The website is clear, comprehensive and it's easy to compare several nearby hotels to choose the most suitable one. My family and I stayed at this Premier Inn in Birmingham city centre earlier this year to attend the All England Badminton finals at the National Indoor Arena. The hotel is perfectly located in the city centre, close to all the shops and restaurants but only 20 minute walk along a pedestrianised route from the NIA. There is some metered parking outside the hotel but for longer term parking, it's best to use one of the many public car parks nearby. We used the Brunel Street car park which is a 5 minute walk away and cost around £8 for 24 hours on a Sunday. Check in is a funny affair with self service machines to enter your details but with very eager staff hovering to help. This hotel is very well staffed with helpful people and I'm not really sure why they don't just use a traditional check in system. The rooms were big and like other Premier Inns I've stayed at, quite modern and updated. There was a problem with the shower door in one of the rooms but we were given a new room immediately. The beds were comfortable. There was a nice looking on-site restaurant but we chose to eat out. This hotel satisfied both the CTG (Chinese Thrift Gene) and the CQG (Chinese Quality Gene)!

The breakfast was included in the room and it was disappointing but I have yet to find a hotel restaurant that offered it as part of a room package that was any good.

Booked 3 rooms here for 27.01.14 - booked and paid for 3 weeks in advance…read more At 13.55 ( 5 mins before check in ) they called me to say that they didnt have the rooms as they were being repaired and that they had booked me elsewhere. I couldnt understand the chap on the phone as his accent was heavy and he spoke very quickly. I agreed to come to the hotel for an explanantion. The manager told me that they thought the rooms would be ready but they werent and that they had booked me next door at the Hilton. I told her that I didnt believe her at all, what they have done in my opinion is sell the rooms at a higher rate than I paid. She then said she would add free parking and breakfast to the hilton booking for me. So we left, called the others and went to the Hilton. The check in desk had no record of any booking from crowne plaza and had to call them three times to actually get it confirmed. The Crowne Plaza then sent through the booking. They booked us 3 twin rooms ( we had booked 3 doubles with them ) no car park and no breakfast. The lack of service, lies and downright shoddy treatmeant of a returning customer means this customer will return no more.
