This is a community swimming pool that is part of the city's Parks and Recreation department. It is…read moreadjacent to the Shore Acres Civic Center, which hosts many city programs. The pool is also adjacent to a covered playground with astro-turf. The pool has two low diving boards and a large twisty sliding tube complex. There is also a very large baby pool. The swimming pool is a 25 yard pool, but during public swim hours there is no lane swimming as the pool is converted to a general swim area, sliding tube landing area, and diving well. The pool has men's and women's locker room areas with showers. This swimming pool is an older pool, and does not have a zero-depth entry option for disabled people. This year they just installed a wench-contraption (sorry, don't know what it is called) to help accommodate disabled persons. Public swimming hours are very limited, only being from 1-4 p.m. daily. The other hours are devoted to swimming lessons, masters swimming, and youth swim team. The pool is generally staffed by teenagers with summer jobs, and they are not always the most polite or friendly people, but I guess that is to be expected of teenagers. I enjoy having this pool in my neighborhood, and my kids take advantage of the swim team, but given the option we usually drive to Fossil Park pool because my kids love the high-dive there, or we drive to North Shore Pool so that I can swim laps while they play in the rest of the pool or in the kiddy splash pool area.

New picnic tables! We Asked about a different lot a bit longer, that seems to have people in and out , to get our truck off the street, but office said no. Our site was very difficult to get into. Sites are not angled. They have activities and a really nice friendly director. We also asked to have a dirt hole filled directly behind our truck. I fear I will stumble into it . We reported 3weeks ago nothing has happened! It needs a yard of gravel . Thought about kayaking on River but told too wide , so not used by people here. There are no bike paths near here. No WiFi to sites, but you do have a keyed mail box. The small Pool is not screened and no see m's have been horrible. There are 2 pickle ball courts, corn hole and shuffle board. Many in mobile homes here have their friendship formed and live permanently and this makes a difference then an all RV park! Park does have a large laundry room and is kept clean! Machines operate on an app which you put on your phone! They have separate club house w/ kitchen parties are held here. Price is reasonable!

I'm not sure when the pool was built but in the early 1970s sounds like from what I was told there, making it a full decade newer than I presumed based on the architecture. But what architecture it is! That façade--you just don't get public architecture for mundane things like parks and rec very often anymore. Despite the mid-century modern understatement, it still has something to say and I wish we'd see more of that today. People have commented on the restrooms/locker rooms. Personally, I was not bothered that the men's locker room was showing its age. It still worked fine. What surprised me was the individual shower stalls instead of a gang shower given its date of construction. And I think the whole men's locker room likely is original and without major updates beyond minor fixtures like soap dispensers. For a public facility at this time of construction to have individual stalls would have been considered a bit of luxury. The current state of the mens' locker room is no worse than many pools I've been to for diving and better than the much newer Cecil Aquatic Center in Jacksonville. The dive well: There's a 1m and a 3m board, which is nice. Both are older but in fine shape. The dive well itself is 14ft but tapers off away from the boards to around 6ft. It's safe, but trying to get a dive a good ways out I was concerned by how it looked from the 3m I'd hit bottom but didn't. It's just a visual illusion and I'm used to pools 16ft deep in their dive wells, too. The dive well is located centerline in the pool between swim lanes, which is cool. All the lifeguards and staff I spoke with were awesome and endured my nerdy questions about the history of their facility. Besides open swim, they have a great program seems of water polo, artistic swimming, and other things going on keeping the facility busy. Overall, I highly recommend!
