A fun store with a bizarre name. :-) If you didn't know what this place was you would easily miss it as it is tucked away on a strip mall and the name doesn't help at all. It is an Indian type grocery store with a large selection of items. Hard to tell from the outside but once you walk in you can see. Looks like they have been in business for over a year. I would give them 0 stars if I can. The owner has decided and even after customers had paid and have gotten their change back, he can stop them from leaving and doubling the price on the product in question. My parents had gone shopping for a product and after confirming the price of the product with the cashier they had her ring up the products and paid for it and even got their change back. After that the owner decided that the price was too low and stopped them from leaving the store. He said the price was double of what they had actually paid. He stopped them from picking up the product that they had already paid from the counter and told them that they either have to pay the new price or he will have to return the product. They got their money back and walked out. When we called the owner to confront him about it, he said that as long as they were still in the store, even though they had already paid for the product, it still belong to him and he has the right to stop them. These are unethical practices that should not be practiced in business. The owner is highly unethical and does not deserve our patronage. Won't be getting any business from us or our friends anymore. read more

THings are generally okay, keep a watchful eye on sale prices and price being billed. Groceries are extensive, but needs to be upgraded quality. Expired things should be discarded. Vegetable selection is okay, not so great anyway. Just be cautious in terms of expiration dates, overall quality, prices etc. read more

The newest and possibly the largest Indian grocery store in Utah is per my understanding actually a chain of Indian stores , which is actually good because a) it suggests Utah is going mainstream in actually offering good and varied options to cater to various cuisines b) if indeed it's a chain then procurement of products including produce should not be a issue i.e. one can expect a good supply chain. This store is actually one of the few Indian stores that actually has more than a couple of aisles , yes that's right, that I have come across so far in the US. They offer ice creams with flavors that are unique to India like chikkoo , kesar pista ice creams which are flavors more synonymous with Indian sweets and desserts and I would definitely recommend either flavors if available (yes that's right as they are selling like hot ). The produce section is definitely refreshing for its sheer size and range of options available and carries produce unique to Indian cuisine like drumsticks. Indian snacks yes they have plenty of them although they still are by and large dominated by Indian brands more available from here than actually from India. That coupled with fact that as of currently they are yet to get organic produce/ products, which they claim is on its way and could be available sooner than later , so maybe someone visiting them later this week or next weekend might come across organic brands like 24 myntra etc., is one of the reasons for 4 star and not a outright 5 star but a promising start to newest and most refreshing store from a ambience perspective in town( yes strange as it might sound about ambience in a grocery store, this one will make you feel different if you have been to other Indian grocery stores in town) Check it out yourselves guys , would recommend doing so Of course price is very economical and you do seem to get more for same price you would pay in a different store read more

If you closed your eyes when you walked into Apna Bazaar you would think you had been transported to the far east. Its like the spices infiltrate your senses. They have a fantastic selection of frozen, pre made, and quick cook foods if you prefer convenience, but I like to cook my food from scratch and they have an awesome selection of raw ingredients too. I got urad and chickpea flour (to make papadum and pakora), garam masala, ghee (which was a GREAT price) and various other items. I also bought frozen naan (so sue me) which was on sale for $2 a pack. You can buy pre made papadums which cook up nicely over a flame too. They also have a selection of other ingredients that you might not affiliate with India (Sriracha, pad thai mix, etc.). To really appreciate the election you really need to visit Apna Bazaar. read more

How awesome is it to have an Indian grocery in SoJo! You can get fresh local halal goat meat on the weekends. You can even buy fresh pickle imported from India! I love to buy the Jeera rice which are teeny tiny little bittys that cook up firm and delicious. Apna Baazar has also recently opened up an ice cream parlor next door where they offer a very special brand of Indian style ice cream (kulchi), it is creamy and delicious! This place has a fantastic selection of Indian products/spices/items. I walked in here on a whim, not really knowing what to expect and were happily surprised with what was available. I stocked up on spices and various other things that I felt I couldn't live without. The staff was friendly and helpful - and were more than happy to let us sample a bunch of their ice cream before we settled on one. Come here if you're looking for some uniquely delicious flavored ice cream and a really nice Indian food supermarket. I had a scoop of the tutti frutti ice cream, and my partner had the pan masala ice cream, which he was obsessed with. Friendly, helpful employees with great recommendations. I wanted to be best friends with everyone there. Helpful hint: they provide a lot of the food to some of the most prominent Indian restaurants around town (Bombay house, pastries and Chaat) We bought some frozen garlic naan as well as butter chicken sauce to make it all at home! My go to place for Indian spices and curry from now on! I went into brows and look around but ended up leaving with an arm full of spices and curry. I could have gotten more but did I really need it.... my husband said no. We also got some fan freaking awesome ice cream and that alone could real me back in there. I got their Marsala ice cream and loved it. I sampled most all of the ice cream and it was all pretty darn good. That's saying a lot coming from me, I'm severely lactose intolerant and if I'm willing to roll the dice on my lactaid pills working it has to be worth it. read more

Their points system is better than most Indian grocery stores, but the way they handle it is a little annoying. I made a purchase of significant amount , and I also made a purchase for my friend and wanted it on a separate bill. I wanted to use my points on the first bill. He said if I use the points on the first bill, not only will I not get points on that purchase, but also on the 2nd purchase. And this was just because the 2nd purchase was of a much higher amount. I am appalled with the disgraceful customer service by Apna Baazar, a store which is still trying to establish itself in the community. Recently, I had purchased a bag of Toor Daal during their Diwali sale; the quality of the Daal was very poor; it had a very awful odor and smelled extremely bad after cooking. Today I voiced my complaint at the store about the quality of their product. Rather than offering to exchange, they abhorrently refused in taking responsibility of selling a spoiled product or provide any redress. It is irrational to see them lose a long standing customer permanently over a $4.99 bag of Toor Daal. Apna Baazar must realize that customers have options and this poor customer service will spread quickly throughout the community. read more

I was at the store on July 25. I understand this is a relatively new store, I (we) generally go to the one at 700 E. In General, the store set up was nice, goods stocked, few items on sale, not a lot of vegetables, but that is expected for a mid-week shopping trip. So overall first impression: Good. After getting few items, I am at the register, and I noticed the price of meat (goat) was little higher than other stores. In the Salt Lake valley, there are not a lot of local meat vendors, so most of the Indian grocery stores as well as restaurant buy meat from the same few meat vendors and the price is relatively same throughout. This is where it got interesting, I mentioned that to the person working the register, there was a women and a man working. As soon as I mention that their price was a bit high on the price, he got defensive. He started saying how his meat was of "high quality" and was trying to justly the higher price. Dude Chill out!!! I am a customer, I was making a suggestion, you can run your business however you see fit, but when there is competition and you are not competitive price, we customers have a choice too. I run a business too, so I do understand the pressure of making that loan payment, and keeping the business afloat, but you just don't get rich by charging higher price and being defensive. In my opinion, the correct response would be, a smile, and to offer me a price match and have me try. If you product is indeed superior, like you mentioned, then the customer will see it, I will see it, then customers will have no problem paying higher price for a superior product. So their response and Customer Service: POOR and RUDE. I will rather drive a mile more and go to the other store, thank you very much. read more
