They have a variety of food and they post their weekly menu on instagram (@georgebrowncafe). I got their daily special which was around $12 and it was a delicious porchetta roast with a refreshing summer salad! All their containers and utensils are compostable and there are lysol wipes on all the tables. Bathrooms are conveniently nearby in the building as well

You get to keep all the food you make in the culinary arts classes so i usually attend classes on the weekend. The classes also double as my meal prep session for the upcoming work week. I suggest attending a sunday morning class (if possible) to all part time students because street parking is free on sunday mornings. The quality of the ingredients are superb. I remember learning how to fillet fish and the seafood came from Diana's seafood. The butter we used is from sterling creamery. The salmon we used to barbecue was sashimi grade so our instructor made us ceviche with the leftover salmon! You can definitely taste the quality of the ingredients that are provided in your classes. The instructors i've had are patient, laid back and funny. I think my three favorite elective courses would be BBQ, Indian cooking, and Thai cooking. The introduction to culinary arts course (compulsory course) gave me the confidence to attempt more difficult recipes and different types of cuisines at home. The course covers the fundamentals of cooking and is well worth the investment (even if you are not interested in the culinary program). I cannot wait till social distancing rules are lifted and GB offers culinary classes again. For now, i will read the course outlines and drool while deciding what to take next.

The class was 2 hours long and there was 10 other people with us. We made Pot Stickers, BBQ Pork Puffs, Sweet & Sour Wontons and Baked Shrimp with Sriracha Aioli sauce Chef Florence showed us how to make the filling for each dish and we got to rotate around four stations to wrap the pot stickers ( made with pork filling), bbq pork puffs, and wontons (made with pork filling). We also got to coat the shrimp in panko (Japanese bread crumbs) and put them on skewers. I liked that Florence asked us to rotate through all the stations so we got to learn how to cook each dish. After we finished cooking, we got to eat our creations and was provided with a glass of wine with the meal. You won't get full on this and will most likely need to eat before or after the class, but I enjoyed it because we learned some neat things! We paid $45 each for this class and found it to be worth it. Chef Florence was strict, but also funny. She used a blend of English and Chinese techniques to make and cook the food. For those of you that are vegetarians or cannot eat pork - this is NOT the class for you as pork was used in 3 out of 4 dishes!

I received the Basic Knife skills class as a gift this past holiday season and booked the remaining classes in the 8 week program within minutes of getting home that evening. Anthony's vibrant and fun personality is infectious and his knowledge will exceed your expectations. These classes awoke a passion for the kitchen not only in myself but in many if not every other student in my group. I learned far more than I expected and the result has been life altering. I look forward to cooking every chance I get and make sure I practice as much as I can and most of all I truthfully miss the time at Culinaria every Monday night. One of the best parts of this program is learning how to shop and save as well as produce a truly 5 star restaurant style meal without the stress of breaking the bank or your patience. Oh and the Duck Fat. Man oh man the duck fat. Looking forward to new classes and curriculum and to getting back here as soon as possible.

Once you get here the variety here more than makes up for it. This is not your average housewares store. They do focus on baking needs and cater to the professional supply/tools side of things. If you are an advance bake at home type you will be happy to come here. They have all kind of gadgets that will help you create the next masterpiece at home or in your professional store. The staff was knowledgeable and provided assistance when needed so kudos for that as a beginner like me really appreciated it. 4 Stars all the way.

I finally went to McCall's the other day with a friend and had to hold back in not spending all the money in my wallet. Not that things in this baking supply heaven are all that expensive, it's just that you end up wanting to buy every single type of themed cupcake liners, several colours of coloured sugars, all different shades of gel-paste food colour, and so on, as you walk through every aisle of the shop (fortunately there are only about half a dozen aisles!). There was quite a good variety of items available when I was there, although some areas seemed somewhat picked over, especially the seasonal items, so be sure to visit the shop well in advance of your holiday-themed baking ventures. In addition to all these decorating-related items, you can also purchase all kinds of pans, trays, carrying cases, baking utensils, etc. But none of that is nearly as fun as the pretty stuff, obviously. Also of note, McCall's offers a wide variety of cake decorating courses throughout the year for newbies and experts alike. Unfortunately, their website is horribly maintained and you'll likely have no luck in properly seeing the course schedule online, but they do have a free booklet available in the store with all the information you need, or you could always give them a call.
