When I started my search for solar, it came with a couple of unexpected surprises and costs. I started out with the typical searches on the internet and received dozens of calls and emails wanting to sell me solar. Most of them were southern California companies or even out of state where I discovered would sub- contract out to regional companies. During the home visit from one of the solar salesmen, it was brought to my attention that my HVAC system was aging and not properly functioning correctly that directly caused my energy costs to go up. This then affects how many solar panels that my system will be to avoid any true ups. On top of that it was also brought to my attention that my attic insulation was inadequate and that would need to be addressed in the near future. So, on top of solar I would need a new HVAC system and insulation, this project just turned into something that I thought was financially unattainable. APG Solar was the last of the companies to give me a quote due to the fact that I thought a bigger company would be a better choice due to the resources it has. The fact of the matter is, all solar companies will sell you on their preferred panel, or inverter or say they have the best finance companies in the market. It just comes down to doing your own research and finding the best for your home and finances. Darren Smith, the salesman for APG came by my house. I was honestly thinking of pulling the project due to the estimate quotes I had already received and that there was no way APG could match, let alone beat those quotes. It wasn't until I gave all this information to Darren and expressed by concerns about the cost that I fully understood the value of working with local companies and the resources they have at their disposal. By the end of the meeting, I had local HVAC company scheduled for a visit and an insulation company that gave me a quote estimate. When all said and done, I got my solar, insulation, and a whole-house fan in a package deal where I was able to get the federal tax rebate on. The HVAC system needed to be completely replaced, I was able to get an amazing deal that literally cost half the price of other HVAC quotes I received, all by going with APG Solar. Installation was prompt on all parts, from start to finish. Everything was completed within 3 weeks. Finalizing all the paperwork with PG&E and building permits only added another 2 weeks. My recommendation is to do your own research and evaluate each company. Be open-minded and look at smaller companies that can offer you better deals. APG Solar was by far the best company for me and my situation. 4/8/2021 - Because of high energy bills and increasing rates, my wife and I decided it was time to look into solar. We reached out to a couple of solar companies to start the dialog and get some information. We spoke with two of the larger solar outfits along with a local company (APG Solar). After talking with the two big commercial companies, we spoke with Jeff Kolkmann of APG. The first thing that stood out to us about Jeff was he was very personal, knowledgeable and open (definitely felt he was interested in helping us instead of selling us). I can't say the same about the other companies. Not having a lot of knowledge about solar at the time, it was important for my wife and I to work with a company that we could trust. After speaking with Jeff we felt comfortable to set up a meeting for him to come out and present APG Solar and how the system would work with our roof and location. Jeff was professional yet very personable. He explained how residential solar works and that APG's focus was on supplying us with the best product and service. Being in sales helps me to know when someone really believes in their products and company. I can truly say that we made the right choice with APG Solar. APG is a company that obviously cares about its reputation and my experience backs that up. Jeff guided us through each step of the process and was willing to answer multiple questions and phone calls from me to make sure I understood the equipment, how it worked etc. We are truly happy with our choice to go with Jeff and APG Solar. We have had it up and running for a couple of weeks now and it is outperforming what the estimated savings were going to be. They use high quality panels/inverters and the installation crew was professional, efficient and experienced. I learned a lot about residential solar during the process and want to note that Solar is one of those products that if you are not familiar with, you could easily be taken advantage of. When done right, going solar can really be an amazing investment. APG is one of the good solar companies, I would highly recommend to anyone. Now looking forward to a cooler summer! Updated 10/28/2022 I just wanted to give a quick update- The system has been amazing! At the end of the first year true up our cost was $0. The equipment has worked flawlessly . Was nice to be able to cool our home this summer when the temps were hitting around 110 and not having to worry about the expense!! As out of town owners of a rental, it's sometimes difficult to find quality people and companies for maintenance and work. I always try to find a locally owned company rather than the big corporate guys. I called a friend who just had solar installed on his house and he immediately recommended APG without reservation. Not knowing a lot about Solar and installation, I followed his advice, called and spoke with Darren. I am so glad I did! I told him Solar was not my expertise and that I was looking mainly for information. When the call was finished, I knew I had found the company I wanted to work with and I didn't need to call anyone else. Darren took the time to explain everything from the basic workings of a Solar system to the installation process and never once talked down to me or made me feel like I was interrupting his day. He was patient answering all of my questions and didn't turn it into a high pressure sales call. Nor did he dismiss me when I told him I needed a little time to process all the information. In fact, he assured me he would be more than happy to continue to answer any additional questions. It didn't take long until we decided to go ahead with the installation. We set the date for the install and they actually called to begin work early because of changes to the schedule. The install crew arrived exactly when they said they would and finished quickly and on time. Their communication with our tenants was excellent and they cleaned up around the house each day and when they were finished. The installation looks great, works exactly as we planned and we couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. I would use them again without hesitation and I'm only sorry they don't cover the area where our personal home is located. AGP hit the ball out of the park. Everyone we had contact with was professional, friendly and competent and made us feel like they cared about our home as much as we do. I have had business dealings with Brent for years, unrelated to solar, so I am well acquainted with him. This is the reason I chose APG Solar to install my system. I've always known him to be a straight-up guy, and a top-notch businessman. I'm not a bit surprised by his reviews. I purchased a houseboat that was powered by one small solar panel and three deep-cycle batteries; at least the radio worked well. I called Brent, and in short order he showed up on the lake with his pontoon boat-shop, and his work crew, Bryan and JB. I wanted all the amenities of home on the water, and when I gave Brent the list of appliances that I wanted to power up, he was skeptical that we could achieve this on a small houseboat. I insisted that he do what he could, and he assured me that he would do his best. Bryan and JB were great. They spent many days working on the boat, they had full access to the cabin, and you would never know anyone had been there. There was never one piece of debris left out on the deck where all the work was being done. Their work was neat and clean; real professionals. The job took a little longer to complete, and it was a bit over budget, but I still could not be happier with the result. I have had zero problems with this system. I've waited a year to post this review. I know nothing at all about solar power, so I wanted to wait and see how the system worked. I went ahead and installed all the appliances that Brent was skeptical of. This system has worked flawlessly for a year now. I have not had one "low voltage" warning. I try not to run everything together, but there have been times that I have. APG Solar is a great company that you will have peace of mind working with. Their reviews say it all. APG Solar has been absolutely outstanding with me, from my first contact through its website. After a ridiculous and insulting first experience vetting a small local solar firm which promoted itself as longtime experts and innovators for solar (which turned out not to be true--the original owner was no longer involved), I spent a great deal of time researching other firms within 50 to 75 miles from my property. APG was the 2nd firm I interviewed. I received a very professional, respectful phone call within 20 minutes of my inquiry through their site. From there, principal Brent Jerner and, ultimately, the crew who performed the repair and expansion of my solar grid and key components were the epitome of respectful, professional, and not just honest but wherever possible, generous. Brent and crew were unfailingly patient and knowledgeable with my questions and concerns. I am a business professional, with deep knowledge of the design and workings of this large house and property, being the designer of this place and its solar grid constructed in 2003, which took a hit in the storms of 2016-2017. Not only was I quickly back online with solar within 2 days of this job, but my dependency on PG&E is reduced from about 40% to 10%. This is a solar design complex, working-living environment where self-sufficiency and nondependency on the PG&E grid is of utmost importance. 11/14/2018 Review of APG Solar I first met Dan Fournier at a Mariposa Butterfly Days fair. I thought I would just mention our home to him as a matter of conversation, I had already been turned down by two solar power instillation companies because I had a metal tile roof. I was surprised when he said he felt that he could install solar panels on my roof. To make a long story short, I now have a very good solar panel system on my roof, thanks to the adaptability and perseverance of APG solar. Working with this company has been a pure pleasure. After the job was underway, there were unforeseen problems that APG had to work out. The lead installer and manager, Coleby Jerner , was always willing to talk to me about the problems, and work to solve them. Fortunately, I was able to meet Coleby's father, Brent, who started the company. Brent Jerner seems to be a man of vision who is passionate about the furtherance of solar power. In summary, I have to say that I have never had a better experience working with the staff of a company than I had working with the solar professionals at APG Solar. I would recommend this company to anyone seeking to save money and help the environment by installing solar panels. APG Solar really stepped up ! So the solar company I signed with went bankrupt and the company who took over did not honor the old company's contracts. So my solar installation project was never completed to pass final inspection. Multiple failed attempts to get answers and better yet someone to come complete the inspection for city inspection. So I'm paying the solar finance company for a service I don't have. Any way, I'm stuck in this situation for over a year so I decided to take matters in my own hands. I called multiple solar companies around the area. Sacramento, Modesto, and Merced. I would explain the situation in which I was in and they would say that they would reach out, but never did anything. APG was really the last solar company I reached out to. Not because I chose to, but because I did not know they existed. To be sincere, I did not have much hope they would help either, but they did. Not only did they take on completing the project, they also guided me to help speed up the progress. They also helped me with the interconnection process as well. I've trusted my accountant for over 20 years so I knew his recommendation was 100% honest and trustworthy. APG was and has been the best decision I've made in regards to finding a reputable solar company. What can I say. APG Solar rocks and Darren Smith is fantastic to work with. Darren was super responsive and met with us within days of contacting APG Solar. He answered all of our questions, addressed all of our concerns. What is super cool is Darren nailed it when he calculated our energy needs, even though we had just moved into a brand new house with no energy usage history. Darren then was with us every step of the process... from the initial conversation, to going over the contract, navigated the MID obstacles, to the permitting process all the way through the install. We have been enjoying our APG Solar system for more than 5 years since it was installed. Since I get an automatic report of power generated every day, I noticed that one of the inverters was not working, so I sent an email on Sunday evening to APG Solar describing the issue. I received a phone call from Coleby on Monday morning. He helped me to restart the inverter and now it is working fine. I found out that this situation might happen after a power outage. On 07/2022 APG installed a whole house fan, solar system, a pool heating system, and a new variable speed pool pump. Jeff Kolkmann the sales consultant was friendly, professional, and presented everything clearly. The crew worked fast and explained how to use the equipment. Once we figured out the pool pump filtration RPM and duration, (tiered: fast, medium, slow) the heating system is at a comfortable temperature for swimming. So I've been having issues with my sunpower box not working and and the guy instead of trying to screw me over sent me a YouTube video on how I could possibly restart my system and get it to work again and save me some money before having to send someone over and to my amazement the video he sent me did wonders !!
