Honestly, after going for another run here, I have to up my rating to 5 stars. The greenway is pretty darn beautiful, and there's parking right next door to it. In my last review, I should have also noted that there's a fishing pier (no idea if people actually catch anything, but I did see a few trying!) and a covered "shelter" where people can hang out on their laptops and enjoy the outdoors. Overall, I think this park will become one of my running staples. read more

We walked to this park from our house in Cary for years !! We moved and I will have to admit that I miss it. The paved walking trail goes all the way around a small lake. There are a few sets of stairs and a small hill that you can train on as well. Baseball fields and volleyball and swingsets. We spent many a day here playing tennis and soccer with my kids. It's a great little park. Give it a visit - you will be glad you did. read more

A lakeside park. I found the parking area small and lacking in shade, but it was a nice-looking area with paved trails and bathroom facilities. There was some road noise and you wouldn't have to go far to find spaces that feel more wild, but as a basic urban green space it works. read more

There are two sides of the park you can park on. For our recent visit we parked on the side without the playgrounds and fields and took a nice walk along the lake. There are cute little animal markers painted on the trail to assist with locating an exact spot in the event of an emergency. My son had fun pointing out the different animals on our walk. We saw lots of turtles, squirrels, and birds. They have a floating dock that you can walk out on or fish off of. We walked along the lake and then visited the two play areas on the opposite side of the park. One was more of a tradition playground with swings and slides and the other was a fitness area. There are also lots of fields at this park and other areas that we didn't have time to explore. read more

Very beautiful and pretty sunsets. I love going for walks here. The path is paved and well maintained.

I really like this trail, but it can get quite crowded on weekend mornings. I'd suggest arriving by 9 am if you are looking for a more socially distanced stroll. There are two parking lots for the trail, one is quite small and the other is very large. The big lot is over by the sports fields, picnic pavilion and playground. The nice thing is that there are bathrooms at each parking lot, they are spaced out about 1 mile from each other. The loop around the lake is about 2 miles and very serene. It is all paved as it winds through the woods with glimpses of the water. Great for all ages! There is also a one mile unpaved trail, but I have yet to try it. This spot is definitely a Town of Apex gem and I really appreciate having it. read more

This large park offers a nice paved walking trail, picnic areas and a nice view of a lake. Our walking group enjoys meeting at this park as there is plenty of parking and restrooms if needed. I saw what looked like a baseball field and other areas as well, but not sure what they are. We head to the back where the lake is and take off ! We are always pleased with our walk at this park, sometimes going around two times on the paved trail around the lake. Very peaceful and beautiful walk. read more

It's a well traveled paved path, fairly flat, with a beautiful view. I feel safe and comfortable while walking alone on the walking path and would recommend it to others. With 160 acres, this is one of my favorite places to walk in the afternoons. There is a two mile long paved path around the lake with plenty of space for passing. You can also veer onto a trail through the trees. You'll find lots of folks walking, running, biking, and dog walking. It offers several athletic fields, basketball and volleyball courts, and playgrounds. There is a fishing dock and launching site for kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, etc. Some kind soul took the time to place uplifting sayings along the trails and one can't help but smile when you come across them...something we can all use these days. The parking lot is a good size guaranteeing you'll always find a spot. read more

My absolute favorite park to take an easy 2 mile run (all paved, which edges out Bond Park for me) around the lake. Absolutely gorgeous year-round and especially during the fall. It's a nice loop to take a stroller, too - although just a few sunny patches, just very few given the surrounding trees. There's two parking lots, about a mile around the loop away from each other so if you want to parent swap, why not, lol. The Laura Duncan Rd entrance is the one with the larger parking lot that is next to the playground, shelters, baseball fields, etc. - and you just need to drive alllll the way back to park if you want to enter the paved loop. I love the vibe, too - safe and not pretentious. read more

One of the best community parks in triangle. It's similar to the lake Johnson but way better. It's also like bond park in Cary but the lake is much larger. It's also very close to Costco so you can spend some time in the park then go shopping. Very convenient location read more

Took a nice walk tonight with the pups and hubby. What a nice park. The 2 mile loop hugs the water and makes for a beautiful backdrop for photo aficionados like myself. Plenty of stops along the way with bags and trash cans so you can curb your dogs. It also has a water fountain about a mile into the path where the pups can rehydrate as well! Very nice park that I will be visiting again and again. read more

My wife and I did tons of laps here while she was pregnant with our first child. Lots of good memories. It's very family friendly, and favors walkers or folks of any activity/fitness level. After 4 or so years of NOT coming here, I drove by on a Saturday afternoon and decided to come back for a run. Runs get boring if you don't mix up the terrain and routes and this would be a familiar, yet new one for me. It's a 2 mile loop. I'd call it flat. Maybe 2 or 3 'hills' if you're not used to running on anything but at treadmill or track. The only downside to running here are the number of people. It's very popular. Some folks like to walk 4 people wide and aren't looking out for folks coming behind them. Not a big deal. I did 5 miles. It was nice. If you're going to do serious miles, probably go somewhere else as you'd probably get bored. But a real nice way to mix up your short runs. They have a few ways you can leave the paved paths if you want to vary it a bit. Parking can be a pain here. But you can park on the street if you need to, and it's not a big deal. read more

Apex Community Park - A mile into the loop - Parks Near Me - Apex, North Carolina

This is an awesome park located between Laura Duncan Road and Lake Pine Drive. There's a really nice paved nature and fitness trail winding through the tall trees and around the lake. It's great for a temporary escape and is surprisingly quiet for being so near major streets. I've not spent much time in the picnic or ball field areas, but do appreciate that during the year when everything is in bloom, it's hard to tell there's anything nearby as the trail is so well insulated from the rest of the park. Even though weekends and afternoons can be pretty hectic with runners, joggers, and walkers, and those just out for a stroll, I've never felt I'm in a human traffic jam. I find it intriguing in a way, as a perfect people-watching park, especially the people with their dogs. I never know what to expect there -- like the elderly woman with her docile, but huge, St. Bernard that probably outweighed her by a good 60 pounds, or the teenager on roller-blades who looked like he was being pulled by his excitable Yorkie. Apex Community Park is well-named -- a true community park with something for everyone. read more

What a nice walk that I was not expecting. My son and I went around 9:30 in the morning and started with the 2 mile loop. It was paved so he could ride in the stroller. He especially enjoyed seeing the turtles. Afterwards, we went to the park near the trail that was covered (nice for hot days). There were only 2 other families there so it feels pretty safe to me. It looks like there is a lot more to explore in this park so we will be going back. read more

I have always called this Lake Pine and it is a nice lake to walk around on a paved path. The loop is about 2 miles and you can venture off to other nature trails and pass the softball field as you do the 2 mile walk. I did not realize that the Camden apartment complex was so gigantic and there are access ways from the apartments to the path for a considerable part of the walkway. It is flat and there was ample parking for a nice day. There are also porto-potties nearby and I am not sure if there are other facilities nearby. All in all, it is flat lake path for a 2-mile circle and you can bring dogs and bikes. read more

I love this park, I go here to walk almost every day. The nature and scenery are quite nice, and generally there's more than enough room for many, many people. Most people are friendly and go about their business just fine. My beef is with irresponsible dog owners at this park, however. I would caution visitors to be vigilant of their surroundings. There's poo piles and poo bags randomly throughout the paths that lazy owners leave for others to pick up (or step in). There's absolutely no excuse for this behavior considering bags and trash bins are placed all over. Dog crap is not fertilizer. Some bring their aggressive, unsocialized dogs to this park. A couple days ago I witnessed a large dog lose it, and it tried to attack another dog passing by. I went off the paved path to avoid the quarrel but the enraged dog lunged off towards ME and would have bit me if it weren't on a leash. The owner could barely control their pet and it was a threat to other animals and evidently, other people. In another instance a few weeks back another large dog got off its leash and charged another person and their dog but luckily the owner stopped it in time. Generally, there's other inconsiderations like owners stopping in the middle of the paths to chitchat and forcing others to go around them. Would it kill these people to step aside when they're not utilizing the paths? I understand that these are self-centered behaviors that are representative of rude people, and not all dog owners as a whole. The majority of owners here are nice and have friendly dogs. Nonetheless, a few bad apples can spoil the experience. Obviously we can't make others follow park rules, but just know these may be scenarios you face when you visit. read more

We love coming here for a 2 mile walk on an asphalt trail around a lake. The mile markers have been updated and there are benches and picnic tables throughout, a clean port a potty and beautiful fields and basketball courts. Lots of dog owners walk their dogs here. There is a dock where you can fish off as well. Very safe feel during the day as it is surrounded by homes. read more

Apex Community Park is one of those places that confirms we made the right choice, moving where we did. I love the array of activities that are offered here, really catering to people and children of all ages. It's a great place to go any time of year whether you're looking to play hoops, take a stroll or even fish. I really appreciate how the jungle gym is gated in, giving children the ability to run around freely and parents are able to keep an eye on them in an inclined environment. My favorite part is the walk around the pond. It's fairly flat and not strenuous, which makes it nice if you're looking for a leisurely stroll, but solid for runners too. It would be nice if the trail in the woods was a bit clearer, but then again, it's a trail in the woods, so it's not like you can ask the trees to move out of the way. I get it! read more

Lately this has been my go to spot to walk the pups. I love this park the greenway goes around the beautiful lake and there is plenty of shade so for the most part you can visit anytime of the day. There is a lot of parking and I believe two different parking lots (I usually park at the lot on Lake Pine Dr.). The greenway is wide which I really like since my dogs can get a little rowdy when they see other pups around. You will see all kinds of wildlife along the path, ducks, geese, turtles, squirrels, maybe the occasional bat at night (yes we have bats). I always see people enjoying fishing or picnicking here as well. They added a nice lookout deck on the greenway in the recent years, you can go and look out onto the water or feed the ducks. If you want to adventure off the paved trail there is a one mile nature trail to walk. Whether your walking, running, biking, or rollerblading this is a great two mile paved trail around the lake, it's not too hilly and it's a great way to enjoy the outdoors. What else does this park offer? 3 ball fields and 2 batting cages 2 soccer fields 3 sand volleyball courts 6 tennis courts 4 basketball courts and a playground. I adore this park. With 2 miles of paved pathway tracing its way around a 50 acre lake, Apex Community Park is the perfect spot for a quick run, or a long trot with the doggies. The parking lot is usually not crowded, except on weekends and there is plenty of room on the paths. The trees along the path yield sweet welcome shade during the dog days o' summer. The opposing side of the park has about a thousand ball fields, and I like that that area is entirely separate from the path and lake. read more

This is one of the best parks I've been to in the area. I took my 16 month old here for a play date with his friends and they all had a blast. When you turn in, there's a smaller playground on your right, but keep driving! There's a much nicer, bigger playground all the way at the back of the park. My son's favorite is the baby swing, so I was happy to see they have four! It's a nicely mulched area with a lot of room for them to run and play. After some play time and a snack, my mom friends and I grabbed our strollers and took the toddlers down to the lake. We showed the kids the Geese, Swan and Ducks, which they loved! A few days later, my husband and I took our little guy back and ended our stay with a walk around the lake. The main path (paved) is about 1.5 miles, but there are other wooded, dirt paths that shoot off of the main one, which would make it much longer. You can see the lake for most of the walk and although there were a lot of people out (from dog walkers to bikers), the trail is wide enough for everyone. There are restroom facilities (although there are only two stalls in the women's room and one was missing a door), tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, baseball fields (and batting cages) and pavilions. read more

This is my go to run spot! This place is super scenic when running or walking & they also have unpaved trails in the woods to adventure and explore! I think 1 time around is about 2.25-75 miles. They have a lot of benches and they also have a spot where you walk onto the deck and overlook the pond. You can also have a picnic up top on the hill or just sun bathe on a nice day. Though this is called Apex Community Park, it's really close to Cary. Personally, I call it Cary. Lake Pine is a great park, I'm not sure about the other amenities, but the loop around the lake is the perfect length and though there is always someone out and about here, it's never overly crowded. The path is paved so it's good for runners, walkers, rollerbladers, bikers, and strollers. Most of the path is pretty well shaded and not too buggy, but it also winds you through a marshy area that's full of turtles. There are painted animals (butterfly's, ducks, squirrels) on the paths so you know where you're parked/know where to tell people to meet you. Plus it's something to look at when you are running, and if you are like me you need something to keep you occupied. Dogs are welcomed. Parking is free. read more

The Apex Community Park is a wonderful place to experience the outdoors in a way that's enjoyable and peaceful but also accessible for wheelchair users, kids in strollers, and safe for solo walkers, too! The 2 mile paved loop offers views across the lake through wooded areas plus a small marshy open area, and also connects to off-path trails (these are not readily accessible to anyone on wheels) as well as a fitness path and the Greenway system. There are benches and picnic tables placed in areas around the water as well as a small boardwalk and a covered seating area near one of the parking lots. Small bathrooms and a water fountain can also be found, which makes long walks easier! There are no playgrounds but children seem to enjoy it just as much as adults; the choice of even paved path or varied-terrain trail provides interest and there are many opportunities to teach using the plentiful examples of native plants and wildlife. It stays busy, so if you're walking solo you won't be alone, and the parking lots are open and well lit. Definitely worth the walk every season of the year! read more

Great park and an excellent paved walk / run trail. For runners, consider which direction to run it. Total length is 2.12 miles and the South direction (to the left from the parking lot) is at a higher elevation from the North start point direction. Basically, you have to choose if you want to go uphill at the start or at the end. The more flat part is also the most nicely shaded, so I prefer to start to the left from the parking lot so you have a flat, fast, shady end. This assumes you are using the parking lot that's just past the Kroger. For excellent baseball, soccer, basketball, and tennis facilities... Use the entrance off Laura Duncan road. Beautiful facilities and a couple of different bathrooms available as well. It's only crowded mid-morning Saturday's when the little league games are going on. If you access the running trail from this backside, you will be at about the midway point on the trail. read more
