This is a great place to experience something a bit different. "apera" (note the lack of capitalization) has this to say about itself:
"apera is a bar and restaurant sourcing its ingredients as locally and as ethically as possible, to bring you a seasonal menu of uniquely Australian dishes. The simple pleasures of good company. Great food and drink championing Australian ingredients with sustainable and ethical practices, never at the expense of flavour." That pretty much sums up the place. It's genuine, with good service, an interesting small menu to choose from, its own wood-fired oven (used for meat and cauliflowers and other seasonal vegetables, not for pizza), and a knowledgable and super-efficient staff. There is also a very friendly bar area, plus a newly installed outdoor area with live music to commence on weekends in Summer months.
The spiced bannockburn free range chicken with chicken fat potatoes is a delight (the house speciality perhaps?), as is the pasture-fed lamb with chimichurri sauce. Would like to see some vegetarian options.
Have eaten there three times so far, and all occasions have been memorable. Planning my fourth visit now! read more
