The Grand Hotel in Sydney reminded me of the old Strathcona Hotel in Toronto, that the property seemed a little "weathered" surrounded by more modern and gleaming Downtown properties. Gayle, Mark, Jennifer, and I came had dinner here at the 30 Knots Pub on the second level. This was our "farewell" dinner, before Gayle and I headed home to the USA, while Mark and Jennifer drove home the next day to the Newcastle area.
We got to the pub by entering at street level to the pink glow of various gambling machines. Somewhere in-between our journey was a hotel. Once here and seated at a decent table, I found the pub to be a little dark. Other groups were here having a good time, so any doubts quickly disappeared.
Food wise, I found my fish sandwich to be strange, but tasty. The other choices at our table were much better received, and with beer and wine to go around, we had a nice time. Staff were friendly enough, our orders were out quickly read more
