Augustus and Glencoe, causing it to close for over 7 hrs, we found ourselves in need of hotel rooms. Back to The Lovat we went. The prix fixed dinner was delicious. First they sat us down in a lounge/sitting room for "snacks" while we played cards, then we were taken to the dining room for dinner. They presented each course, explaining the preparation, etc. We really enjoyed our experience and the delicious food. Everything was presented beautifully. We stayed in the garden rooms which are a newer addition to the hotel. They had great views. The rooms were clean and they provided goodies in the coffee/tea/refrigerator area. We all really enjoyed our time in Fort Augustus and look forward to visiting The Lovat and Station Road restaurant again.

The Station Road restaurant to their Afternoon Teas are inspired with the beauty that each season brings. Fresh flavors, delightful aromas and colours, and fresh ingredients grown in the Lovat kitchen gardens. You can enjoy a real farm to table experience! The service was very attentive and courteous. They offered me a glass of champagne for the birthday. The ambiance was glassy and country chic with a great attention to details. The portions are on the small side as the emphasis is placed on design and presentation of the dish. The lamb was absolutely exquisite.

I have had way worster experiences and I feel like these reviews are more for the hotel itself rather than just the restaurant itself so I do want to be somewhat fair. With all that being said... I can't confidently recommend the restaurant here. The Caesar salad was literally the only thing that was somewhat edible. I had been in Scotland for almost a week at this point and it was also the first time that I had ever been charged for water. That was something I kinda wished they would have mentioned to us if they were going to do that. That's not cool man. It really comes off as shady. For food I ordered the Seafood Risotto and there was practically no flavor. When I asked my friends how they felt about their dishes, it was unanimous around the table. Maybe the chef just quit the night before and they were trying to make do with what they have and know? It's just weird right? You see the pictures and see how cool The Inch looks inside and out and just figure if they have a restaurant that it's going to have at least "some" form of quality to the food. But there was none to be found unfortunately and you are left just feeling like this place is a tourist trap. So yea can't recommend the food here. Then again it is a small area. Maybe that's just all the people know? It'd be really sad if that was actually the case. My only hope is that the staying there for the night is an actual 5 star experience.

When we checked in the lovely girl came outside to greet us. It was the sweetest hotel check in ever!! Our room was lovely. There's a huge living room with a fireplace that they lit downstairs. That was my favorite place to hang out. There was also chairs outside overlooking the lake and it was so quiet and peaceful at night. And there's a little hike behind the hotels to the waterfall. It was absolutely beautiful and peaceful. The food in the restaurant was superior. They rent out the whole place for weddings and I'm trying to talk my best friend into getting married there it was so great.

I really loved this hostel!…read more I paid about 19 quid a night, which included breakfast (2 pounds). And it was delicious. They also serve dinner there, but it's like 6 pounds. I was in a five-person room with my friends. The room was clean and smelled nice. The staff was friendly. The walls weren't paper-thin, so I wasn't hearing every noise my neighbors made. I wasn't scared for my life when I went in the showers (quite the opposite). Guys, this is not normal of some of the hostels I've been in at this price. It was in a good spot in Ft. Augustus, although there's not a whole lot to do in that town (that closes at 5 pm :) ). I was with a tour, so we just stayed there at night and I got driven around in the morning, fun times. The place serves free hot chocolate, tea, and coffee (!!), and has a great little kitchen with a bunch of dining supplied. They also make an attempt to be environment-friendly. I can't remember if they have a place to store your luggage, but since their doors locked and all the people in the room were friends of mine I didn't mind either way. The only thing was its location was a little out of the way, and unmarked from the main road (no signs leading to it). So I had to wander around alone in the rain. Loved it. It is the hostel to which all others are failing to compare. Edit: Forgot to mention the bar on-site, with a roaring fireplace. And the free internet (there's also free WiFi but I didn't bring my laptop).

There were covered areas for locking up our bikes, and reception was smooth and friendly. The only slight problem was that their credit card processing machine was out of order, and we had to pay cash. The rooms were great! Ours had 2 bunk beds for 4 people and did NOT smell like a petting zoo. Actually clean and fresh. The sheets were clean and comfortable, and our room had its own dedicated bathroom and shower, so we only had to share it with a maximum of 4 total. The daily cleaning was on time and diligent. Only downside for us was that our room was a bit far from the router, so WIFI didn't exist in our room. The hostel itself had a great vibe. Lots of people of all different backgrounds, although it seemed to be heavy on the American and Scottish side. The shared kitchen was not spotlessly clean, but pretty damn clean for a hostel and well equipped. The fact that they have a constantly ready hot water boiler for tea and coffee was a special plus! The common areas were clean and tidy, although the raucous-ness from the bar area tended to spill over quite loudly in the evenings. The bar area seemed great fun if you are under 25 and into toga parties and horrible karaoke. Not our thing but it definitely seemed like people were having a blast screaming "I'M ON A BOAT MOTHA F****ERS!!! YEAH I'M ON A BOAT" into the mic.

The reason I say fairly comfortable is because it has no elevators. Uh did I mention we stayed in the Bell Tower! The common areas have the original tiles from the 1800s. OK...I'm being petty, but the tile needed to be cleaned and a few were popping up but Michael, a really nice caretaker, said they were original to the Abbey. After climbing up the tower and entering the room, I was pleasantly surprised. The interior was modern. I'd say it's been redone within the last 5 years. However, once you are inside, more stairs. There's a half a flight to go up to the bedroom. When in the bedroom, you are truly where the bell used to be. They still have the bell but they put it at the bottom of the stairs. How they got it there, I will never know. No A/C but it wasn't needed. Temps there in August were about 75F during the day and 65F at night. The windows opened electronically and would let the breeze in. There's no turn down service. I guess they don't want to climb those stairs everyday! There is a great indoor pool, sauna, and steam room there. You and your family/friends can sign up for time in the book and you can get an hour block all to yourselves, no extra charge.

After roaming around the town and a tiring day out, being South Asian, we were craving some rice. We spotted this place and decided to give it a try. We walked in and were greeted with warm, smiley faces. The restaurant was almost empty, which made us a little unsure at first -- but we decided to settle down and order: * Chicken Szechuan * House Special Fried Rice And wow... what a meal it turned out to be! The Chicken Szechuan was absolute gold -- perfectly cooked, loaded with veggies, and coated in flavorful sauces. The House Special Fried Rice was good too -- though I personally would have loved it a bit spicier or with more veggies. The pricing was reasonable (thankfully not £17 for a single basic meal ). Service was very good -- simple, polite, and efficient. The décor was typical Chinese style, nothing fancy, just a couple of servers managing the place Overall: simple place, tasty food, good service. 4/5

It's 5-star as in I don't think you find much better pub fare in the middle of Scotland. Fort Augustus isn't a sleepy little village - it is a touristy area with people trying to catch a glimpse of Nessy - so while there aren't a ton of options, there are a number of places to eat and I think for a less pricey meal, this is definitely your go-to. We were at the tail end of a long road trip and were headed back to Edinburgh, but needed dinner. Stopped in here as they had a couple of options for my pescatarian fiance. We split an order of mussels - I'm pretty sure we liked it but honestly, its been a while and I don't remember how good it was. However, based on my entree - I got the Chicken Escalope - this meal was delicious. The chicken was essentially just a lightly breaded chicken breast with a large side of veggies, but however they cooked this, it was delicious. Not only was it a lot of food, but it was really tasty. On top of all of that, our server/bartender was a young guy in his 20s who seemed to know everything there was to know about Scotch. He had some fantastic recommendations that unfortunately, I could not find to bring home, but really enjoyed the scotches I drank there. He was also very friendly and accommodating, and helped make the meal one of the more memorable ones. So yes, I know many of you would look at the 5-star rating and think I simply drank too much scotch. You wouldn't be wrong. But neither am I. As far as pub fare goes out in the middle of the country, this was excellent.
