Oh my goodness. This place is to die for! The vibes are so amazing with such friendly waitstaff! My favorite thing we go was the chicken thigh yakisoba, so many flavors that blended so well together. Food arrived at perfect times, a very large but gently curated menu, can't really go wrong with any of it!

What a charming spot! I didn't even know that I needed Japanese fine dining, but I was so happy to have the experience days after Aomori opened. I love the creativity of the menu and the option of pre-fixe dining in a small, intimate space. I thought the Temaki was lovely. I could've easily had just the two rolls I ordered - Crunchy Toro and Hamachi Negi - and left very happy. Unfortunately the onigiri I tried was unsatisfying - way too much rice and indiscernible filling - and the $12 lemon Sour cocktail was boring and tasteless. Service was also inconsistent. The hostess was amazing, but my assigned server was completely inattentive. When I spilled soy sauce on my table, she took my napkin to wipe it up and left me with hands dripping and no napkin. I literally sat like that for a a few minutes looking around for how I could get a napkin when thankfully another server noticed it and took care of me. I ordered my rolls 10 minutes apart. Both came at the same time 45 minutes later when I asked the server about them. Hopefully the kinks will get worked out soon as I certainly plan on coming back for the tasting menu.

Had a chance to try Aomori and really enjoyed the experience. We arrived a little early - they don't open until 5pm (this should really be posted on the outside of the restaurant to be honest). Anyway, we left and came back and were seated right away. The menu is very short and the dishes are on the esoteric side, which was exciting for me but limiting for my partner. I had a lemon sour and my partner a whiskey highball. Both were fine, though not especially unique. I ordered a salmon kyu temaki/hand roll and the kani-zosui, a crab & rice egg drop soup dish. My partner got the oyako don, which is chicken thigh, onion, and egg over rice. I don't think I've had temaki before, and I'm not really sure I ate it correctly, but it was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. The crab soup was warm and invigorating on a cold evening, though the crab and mushroom sort of got lost in the overall egginess of the dish. My partner enjoyed her food. I tried it and liked it as well - much more flavorful than similar dishes I've had before. The rice was very moist - almost like a risotto. Service was super-friendly and inviting and I'm looking forward to coming back sometime soon.

Cute new Japanese soul food restaurant in Bayside area. They have a long bar and a few tables. It's smaller and cozy vibe. Our server was very friendly and helpful with the menu. Large menu with lots of different great options. My favorite dish we got was the Maguro Zuke Don which was a bluefin tuna dish. We also got the special bluefin. The fish was so fresh and bluefin is my favorite. Overall pricey but worth it for a fancy meal with some great options. I'll be back to try some different things!

Welcome back Masa Miyake! The previous gem that he sold is still fabulous, but this one is unique in that it focuses on Japan's Tohoku Region. Masa Miyake is from Aomori that's had a relationship with Maine since the Cheseborough from Bath, Maine, crashed there in 1889. We had to wait almost an hour for a Tuesday night (!) but it's easy since Wilson County is across the way to grab a drink and wait for the text. The new building space is smartly designed and the service is welcoming. The only downside are the small portions for the rolls and non-sushi items. So overall it's a bit pricey. But worth it! A seasonal special, 3 cuts of Maine bluefin, was a standout, as was the Maine uni, of course. The one dessert, a super light yuzu mango "cheesecake" was superb. Definitely check it out!

The sushi sashimi special for 2 at $60 is a steal: you get 15 pieces of sashimi, a 9-piece spicy tuna roll and a rainbow roll on top of that. No, they don't skimp on the sashimi. Salmon, tuna, yellowtail. Oh, and yes, you get the miso soup and salad on top of that. I'm always surprised when I go in to find that every seat is not filled at this spot. I think the location is a disadvantage - it's tucked into the corner of a strip mall in South Portland, so it really only gets local patrons. If this was in downtown Portland though, it would be popping.

One of the biggest changes has been the complete turnover of the staff. All of the original people who made the place welcoming and enjoyable seem to be gone, and the difference has absolutely shown in both the service and overall experience. The food quality has become inconsistent and, at times, marginal compared to what originally brought us in. We've also dealt with repeated order mistakes, inattentive service, and an overall lack of attention to detail during several recent visits. Everyone understands that restaurants can have an off night, but this has become a pattern rather than an exception. What was especially disappointing was that we took the time to privately contact ownership about these concerns and never received any response at all. We weren't looking for compensation or special treatment, just acknowledgment and some indication that customer feedback mattered. Kume had a lot of promise when it first opened, which makes this frustrating to write. Unfortunately, based on our recent experiences, the quality control, consistency, and customer service are no longer close to where they once were.

We rolled in and got a seat right away, which was awesome. The staff were friendly and helpful! As for the food - I'll start with the food stuff. The Tuna de Tigre was REALLY good!! And the ice cream toastie, which had been highly recommended, was very good and unique! As for the disappointing - my main complaint was with the sushi rolls... I was bothered that the sushi was essentially standard roll, one that I can get at other sushi restaurants, with a squirt of a sauce for an extra like 5 or 6 dollars. I always very disappointed with the tuna nachos. They sounded and looked appealing but lacked anything that really made me want to order them again. All in all, I liked it - but it left something to be desired in my opinion. I think going forward, Mr. Tuna will be reserved for Tuna de Tigre and Ice Cream Toasties (and the Handrolls form their food trucks at concerts and festivals)!

We showed up with a small line waiting to get in/pick up orders. Once inside we waited a little bit for the staff to arrive to greet us, once they did we were told it would be a wait for a table or could sit at the kitchen bar right away. We snagged the two furthest bar seats with a slight peak into the kitchen watching food being prepared. They had QR codes around for you to scan to pull up the menu. Overall it's a small space as well as being a thin and narrow space. Be ready for a possible wait for a spot to open up. To start off we grabbed some cocktails, my wife got their Shiso Lucky (Roku Gin, shiso, lime) and I got Kochi Sunset (Shochu, yuzu, blood orange). Also for a starter we decided to have the Lobster Buns. Cocktails were great and well made. The lobster buns were a fantastic unique way of enjoying lobster. My wife did find the texture of the bun to be not ideal but overall enjoyed it. Entree wise we both decided on the duck ramen. We both enjoyed it very much, my wife could have done without the menma (fermented bamboo shoots). I wish it had more duck in it honestly. The duck was extremely tasty in both the normal meat and meatball. For our return eventually we will both likely try a different ramen to branch out. Overall a pretty solid overall experience. Some small changes could make me change it to a five star from my current four. It certainly fulfilled the ramen craving and I could see this being a no -brainer for stopping at during the brutal winters Maine has.

My boyfriend ordered a hibachi meal and I ordered sushi. Halfway through our meal we placed a to-go order, and I clearly asked for one sushi and one hibachi to go. We also asked for our dine-in meal to be separate from the to-go order because we were paying separately. Unfortunately, the order got doubled and we ended up receiving two of everything. What should have been about $40 for the to-go order ended up being over $70. She also wasn't able to split the check or separate the orders, and after trying to explain a few times we eventually just gave up and paid. She was very kind, and I understand that communication can be difficult, but having waitstaff who are a bit more fluent in English would really help avoid situations like this. On a positive note, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was nice--not too loud and not too quiet
