The location was convenient in the center of town and literally walking distance from everything (it's a small town). The beds were firm and not overly comfortable, but the room was very clean. The entrance to the room was direct to outside where we conveniently parked on street right in front of the room. It was a little confusing when we got there because the sign to the place is where the rooms are,but the innkeepers live across the street which is where you check in. I wish this place served breakfast because in a Sunday morning in lake city there is literally no where to eat. The one breakfast joint is closed on Sunday, which we didn't know.

The kids played upstairs while the adults hung out downstairs so was great for the noise level. Fully equipped with free wifi, direct tv and hotel-like amenities (how can you beat a free homemade continental breakfast?) When the kids got restless we went outside and played in the treehouse, walked to the pond and enjoyed the teeter totter. The owners have thought of everything and provided it! They enjoyed the vineyard grounds, tire swing, and play area. We also went fishing and caught twelve fish from sunfish to walleye. The campground is supplied with a tank of water for cleaning or other nonpotable uses. There is a ton of firewood with the fire pit. There's a port a potty. Dean and Nancy have thought of everything. Plus, there is NO ONE around. It's your own private Iowa. There is golfing but our kids brought baseball and football stuff. The big area was huge and they filled their days with sport. Glidden is nearby for swimming. Groceries are 15 mins away. We loved our stay was outstanding and we will definitely be back. By the way, Dean and Nancy are phenomenal hosts.

This is a must stop…read more This is a great place to learn about furniture, craftsmanship, and 19th century Iowa History. RVP has a couple dozen prototype pieces of furniture that are representative of what was made in Iowa in 1875. Robby makes the furniture with the same tools from 1875, with the same wood, with all wooden joints. Although the display furniture (prototype) is not for sale, one can order based upon it choosing the type of wood and finish that you want. Understanding that high quality furniture is not cheap, I was very surprised at the relatively reasonable prices (for high quality furniture). I have seen much lesser quality pieces elsewhere at much higher prices. We had a very interesting and informative 15-20 presentation/discussion about the furniture, the workshop, the process, and the history.

We stayed in a suite with a jetted tub and fireplace-a treat during the cold Iowa winter. I highly recommend staying around Christmas time as the house was decorated with charming Christmas decor. The thing that sets this place apart from other bed and breakfasts we have stayed in was the incredible breakfast! Joan is an amazing cook and provided us with a 3 course breakfast of parfaits, mint and cranberry scones, and a breakfast pizza with bacon. Everything is elegantly put together and made me really sad I couldn't eat but a few bites by the last course. Luckily we were provided with to-go containers for us to enjoy later.

She also sent me home with a huge Christmas cactus with an aloe plant in there too! I still have that plant!! If we ever pass through again that would be the first place I'd try to stay at!
