While the building and rooms are showing signs of age, I gave them an extra star because the staff was so nice. Whether it was providing directions, welcoming us, getting Husband a toothbrush he forgot, or helping us with our AC, everyone we encountered worked together as a team to ensure we had everything we needed and that our stay was pleasant. The first room we checked into at 11:30pm was moldy and musty smelling. There were towel hangers on the floor and the A/C would not turn on. We could also hear our neighbors yelling which of course is not the hotels fault. So I went up and asked to move rooms. She said no problem! The 2nd room was upstairs, no elevator so we hauled all our things up. This room was even worse than the first!! This room had burns in the carpet, missing light bulbs and lamps that didn't work but the worst part was the LIVE WORMS in the toilet!!!! I said no way are we staying here! If there was still worms in the toilet what else was in that room? Like I said the front desk lady was extremely nice and understanding. We got our refund the next day. He went out to get it and on the way in, security would not let him in because he appeared intoxicated. He doesn't drink or use drugs if any kind. I talked to a manager and he said that once a decision is made, there is no changing it. We actually called the Jefferson police department and asked to come do a breathalyzer and sobriety test. The officer came but said they have the right to refuse anybody. They say their employees are specifically trained for such problems. Really? How does a person with over 10 years sobriety get refused due to intoxication? Very disappointing. Oh well, we like to spend money and Prairie Meadows is happy to have our business. Terry the General Manager wanted me to write a review, so here goes…read more Terry the General Manager was clear to tell me multilple times she was The General Manager and that they were a franchise and Wyndham was Wyndham. Wyndham causes many problems and says anything to the guest booking and she has to fix their mistakes. When In actuality, Terry is the one that creates the problem, fixes them and demands a good review where you mention her name in it. This hotel is run down and dirty, but she will tell you that her hotel is rated number 2 in the state. That does not say much for Iowa. This hotel has basement rooms and cars park up against your windows. There is lots of noise and you have to run the AC to drown out the outside noise. From 12am to 2am the bar crowd hangs outside talking, yelling, fighting, smoking and your room is filled with cigarette smoke. BTW it's a non-smoking hotel. The basement walls had paint bubbling due to water damage. The AC unit had peeling tape wrapped around it. Not sure what the tape was used for. She is old school and uses Liquid Gold over her dated formica furniture and doors. The bedding was dated and faded. You rolled to the center of the bed when you tried to lay down. The sheets and towels were worn out. Burned out light bulbs, dirty bathroom. My brothers room you actually stuck to the floor/carpet so they kept their shoes on. I slept with my cloths on with a towel placed over the bedding, nor did I bath there. She cuts single use keys, so you have to go back to the desk and get your key rekeyed everytime you leave the room. She blames you for having the key too close to your phone. Went back and looked at the pics, this must have been when the hotel was first remodeled. Breakfast is included, but you have to be down before 9am or it's closed, even on the weekend.

From the moment we arrived, the service was beyond hospitable. The temperature was -19. We went to the room and the heater was working so hard it was screaming! We asked for a different room because we knew we could not sleep with the noise. The night clerk immediately switched us. Although the heater in the new room was not quite as noisy, it was still pretty bad. The next morning, we asked to be moved once again. Brent said he would go into every room to find one that was quiet. He found one. The day and night were still bitterly cold, but the heater was quiet. Two days later, we wanted to have a family gathering since we had not seen all the siblings for several months. We asked for recommendations of nearby places that we could get about 25 people together for lunch and visiting. Again, the Boulders staff came to the rescue. Once the breakfast area was cleaned, they said we could use that area and the beautiful lobby area to gather our family. It was extraordinary. I cannot give the ratings they deserve! You will not stay at a better place as far as friendly people and people who are willing to do almost anything to make your stay the best.

The breakfast the following morning was delicious and had lots of hot choices of breakfast items. I did forget two coats in a closet and several days later the hotel staff mailed both of my coats to me. I would gladly stay there again. I highly recommend it.
