While the building and rooms are showing signs of age, I gave them an extra star because the staff was so nice. Whether it was providing directions, welcoming us, getting Husband a toothbrush he forgot, or helping us with our AC, everyone we encountered worked together as a team to ensure we had everything we needed and that our stay was pleasant. We stayed in a suite with a jetted tub and fireplace-a treat during the cold Iowa winter. I highly recommend staying around Christmas time as the house was decorated with charming Christmas decor. The thing that sets this place apart from other bed and breakfasts we have stayed in was the incredible breakfast! Joan is an amazing cook and provided us with a 3 course breakfast of parfaits, mint and cranberry scones, and a breakfast pizza with bacon. He went out to get it and on the way in, security would not let him in because he appeared intoxicated. He doesn't drink or use drugs if any kind. I talked to a manager and he said that once a decision is made, there is no changing it. We actually called the Jefferson police department and asked to come do a breathalyzer and sobriety test. The officer came but said they have the right to refuse anybody. They say their employees are specifically trained for such problems. Really? How does a person with over 10 years sobriety get refused due to intoxication? Very disappointing. Oh well, we like to spend money and Prairie Meadows is happy to have our business. From the moment we arrived, the service was beyond hospitable. The temperature was -19. We went to the room and the heater was working so hard it was screaming! We asked for a different room because we knew we could not sleep with the noise. The night clerk immediately switched us. Although the heater in the new room was not quite as noisy, it was still pretty bad. The next morning, we asked to be moved once again. Brent said he would go into every room to find one that was quiet. He found one. The day and night were still bitterly cold, but the heater was quiet. Two days later, we wanted to have a family gathering since we had not seen all the siblings for several months. We asked for recommendations of nearby places that we could get about 25 people together for lunch and visiting. Again, the Boulders staff came to the rescue. Once the breakfast area was cleaned, they said we could use that area and the beautiful lobby area to gather our family. It was extraordinary. I cannot give the ratings they deserve! You will not stay at a better place as far as friendly people and people who are willing to do almost anything to make your stay the best.

The breakfast the following morning was delicious and had lots of hot choices of breakfast items. I did forget two coats in a closet and several days later the hotel staff mailed both of my coats to me. I would gladly stay there again. I highly recommend it.
