So i'm normally not a fan of having a male OBGYN. Always had a female doctor before. I'm happy to say that thanks to Dr. Garg, that has completely changed. He is awesome. All i can say are gushing words of admiration for him. When i learned that was pregnant back in March, I was originally going to Sharp Rees Stealy. After a few rude phone calls from Sharp's triage nurses, and me feeling super stressed out, i contacted my surgeon and I was referred to to Dr. Garg. He is such a sweet and funny person. He's super straight to the point, doesn't play around, and is very direct. His personality is not for everyone but i like the fact that he doesn't make you worry about anything and makes everything super easy and seamless. I couldn't ask for a better OB this entire pregnancy and i honestly feel like it was meant to be that he became mine. If i ever decide to have another child in the future i definitely know where i'm going back to. His staff and nurse(shout out to Racquel), as well as the ultrasound tech are super nice, sweet, and very funny ladies! Cannot recommend them enough, and will definitely be telling anyone i know about him. The only downside is parking. It's a little hard seeing as it's metered parking but still worth it. Just make sure you pay by card or keep a ton of quarters on you like i did lol. read more

After i found out I had a large ovarian cyst that needed to be removed immediately, I researched a lot of an Diego doctor's. I ended up chosing Dr. Garg and I couldn't be happier. He did an excellent job with my surgery. He really put me at ease and answered every question I had. There is rarely a wait time once you're in the room. The appointments are always short and to the point, but never rushed. I've had to wait in patient rooms for other doctors for longer than most of my entire appointments with Dr Garg, from checking in to walking out. His staff is hard working and detail oriented, and his nurses are some of the kindest people I've ever met. I really feel taken care of here. read more

I'm going to write a review about *only* Dr. Garg. I don't care if there is sometimes a wait for my appointment or if the office staff aren't perfect (I've seen those problems at every single doctor I've ever been to). What matters to me is my doctor. Dr. Garg is an excellent OB-GYN. I have done research on his training and credentials and am impressed. He has been my doctor for two years. I have endometriosis and he performed my first lap surgery two years ago. He has also been treating my infertility issues and is currently giving me prenatal care with a high-risk pregnancy. He is kind, great bed side manner, and wants to do whatever he can to help you and ease your worries. I have considered switching insurances, but have not, because I am worried I won't be able to see him if I change plans. read more

Doctor Garg is a wonderful doctor. He did a phenomenal job delivering our baby boy (our first) and we are truly grateful to have had him as our Obgyn. Also, our experience at Scripps Mercy Hospital was absolutely amazing. The nurses were caring and super attentive. They continuously checked in on us and answered any questions we had, and the lactation specialists were extremely helpful. I would definitely recommend Doctor Garg and his staff! read more

I don't really have anything negative to say about Dr Garg himself, except that he doesn't take enough time to talk with his patients. His office, however, is another story. From prescriptions not renewed despite multiple phone calls to wrong test results given on the phone, I think I've had everything, and I've only been a patient for a little more than a year! As of today, I'm still waiting for a copy of test results that a staff member told me she was "putting in the mail right now" a month ago. These people are so unbelievably unprofessional, I don't understand how the doctors there can tolerate that. I personally give up. read more

Dr. Garg is an excellent doctor. Very efficient, laid back and easy to talk to. I love that he actually stands up while talking to you, unlike a lot of other doctors sit down like their bored. He actually seems sincere about the problems you're having and has a quick solution! He performed my c section, post par tum care, referred us to an excellent pediatrician, found the best birth control for me, will be seeing him for annual exams, and future pregnancy! His nurse, Devin is also phenomenal at her job. I like how she gets me in and out. I cannot stand lingering around the doctor's office longer than I need to. Every time I come here, I'm in and out within an hour. read more

I had a bad experience with Scripps Mission Valley from the years of 2012-2017, During these years I was under the care of a monsters. From the year 2012 up to the year of 2019 I was diagnosed as having Endometriosis, but I knew it was something other than that. I was weak, tired, moody, etc. The pain I felt on a daily basis was excruciating I mean it was so bad I wanted to end my life. On May 29th I was seen by Dr. Garg, I told him of my problems and right away he scheduled for me to have a laparoscopy. His findings were enlarge uterus fused to bladder and abdomen wall. After his findings he scheduled me to have a hysterectomy by a referred specialist. Though I still have a little bit of pain because of all that had happened, the pain is more tolerable and my life is starting to improve. Thank u Dr. Garg for listening and taking my concerns seriously. read more

Come on Dr. Garg. You are an excellent doctor and surgeon. However your office staff including your clinical assistants are a joke. Unprofessional, unpleasant, making mistakes on basics such as referral forms, and seems that 8 of of 10 times they seems to mess something up with the care I've received. I've sat in an open door exam room waiting for orders while listening to personal conversations and had to basically say "hello, we done here" and got a oh yeah I'm working on it. Referrals for testing not covered by my insurance. Lack of followup contact while waiting for appts. First time I saw the doc I got put in a dirty exam room - which the doctor said, why did they put you in here. The staff at this place is subpar and does you a disservice. read more

First time today I saw Dr.Garg and he was very patient with every question I had. He makes sure he answer every question you have and does check to see if the baby is doing good. He isn't strict but makes you understand what you should be doing if your a certain week. His staff is also wonderful and doesn't seem to be in a bad mood. read more

I LOVED Dr. Garg...he is super laid back and easy breezy. If that's the kind of Dr. your looking for than I totally recommend him. He is professional and nice and you will be in and out in a flash unless you have a lot of questions which he will be happy to go over them with you. The staff is great too (loved my nurse too) and they are not pushy on payments and will totally work with you, which is nice because some offices are so rude! read more

I normally would never see a male GYN. I've had some trauma in my life that in most ways I don't feel safe around men especially alone and ESPECIALLY with such a private area and topic but dr Garg is exceptional. He diagnosed and found my endometriosis when many other dr's missed it. I am so thankful to him read more

I have had a great experience during the last few years being a patient with Dr. Garg. I ultimately ended up having a hysterectomy and the procedure was as promised...minimally invasive, minimum scarring, outpatient, and speedy recovery. I was back to work just a little over 2 weeks from the date of the operation. During the time leading up to the procedure, Dr. Garg and his office staff were responsive and followed through on call backs, questions, and a found solutions for the discomfort I was dealing with. I have been to the office 7-8 times and the staff has always been pleasant, on time, and quick yet thorough. Dr. Garg comes into each office visit well versed on my appointment history and notes on prior conversations. He works efficiently fast, so be prepared with questions if you have not already done your homework. read more

This quack of a Dr could not even properly read my ultrasound (twice) and said my pregnancy hormone lab values were progressing normally (they weren't). Despite the fact he knew that I was a high-risk pregnancy patient with only one remaining fallopian tube, he seemed to casually go through the motions, and told me I showed an intrauterine gestational sac. A week later I was in the emergency room bleeding internally from an undiagnosed ectopic pregnancy and rushed into surgery. The wonderful surgeons at UCSD Medical Center were visibly shocked that my OBGYN (Garg) told me that my ultrasound looked normal because when they perfomed my ultrasound, THERE WAS NOTHING IN MY UTERUS. Ladies: avoid! Pregnancy is hard enough with a good Dr, don't waste your time, money, and emotions on this fool. Yelp, I wish I could leave zero stars! Good luck and best wishes to all you pregnant mamas. I will now be spending thousands on IVF to have a baby. read more

So frustrated. Not only do I have a problem that has had me referred to this doctor, but they let me play phone tag with them and wait all weekend. I call today and now they are no longer taking my insurance! How can that happen over a weekend?! Now I have to wait even longer to find a new doctor... Not happy! read more

I noticed other reviews that mentioned Dr. Garg spends just a few minutes with patients. I will say that he is fast but I am sure that is the nature of his personality. He was straight to the point and did not sugar coat things. Personally, I appreciate that in a health professional. When I had questions he answered them for me. I was referred to Dr. Garg by a close friend during my pregnancy and I am very happy with everything he had to offer to my baby and I as patients. read more

I recommend Dr. Garg to anyone who wants to have a natural child birth. I had my first baby on 2/16/2014 and had a great experience thanks to him and the nurses at Scripps Mercy (Hillcrest). He is so laid back and easy but also shows that he cares. The last thing you want when you're in labor (without meds especially) is a pushy doctor who only cares about what they want and recommend. He let me have MY birth MY way and was so understanding and caring. i had a birth plan and a doula and he was super respectful about my wishes. I LOVED DR. GARG!! Also his staff is super helpful and friendly. I had a different primary doctor at first and I just didn't feel comfortable with her. She was a little more pushy on things, like me not working out as much as I did. Which is silly. I quickly switched as soon as I met Dr. Garg! So glad I did! read more

Dr. Garg (and his Assistance Devon) are very caring and take the time to answer any questions. However, the office staff receives a ZERO star rating! There really is only one particular person at the 5th Avenue location that works the front that is extremely rude and completely unprofessional. You'll know who she is when you speak to her because she literally speaks down to all the patients in the exact unenthused and disapproved manner. One word of advice for all new patients: Request records of everything, keep record of whom you spoke with, and ask a lot of questions! read more

Dr. Garg and his assistant have been incredible. I have been having pain and other issues. My co-worker recommended me to Dr. Garg's office. Dr. Garg took time and was very genuine in listening to me, reviewing all of my options. They were able to schedule my procedure very quickly and been a pleasure to work with in getting paperwork filled out for my leave of absence. I had not gone here for my general check ups but know that I have found my new doctor! read more

After feeling bad for a few months & being reluctant to just schedule an appointment with a new doctor because I loved my OBGYN so much (was a patient of Dr. Cunningham and was hoping she would come back soon) I finally looked up the doctors that I was referred to by my network. I was determined to find a female doctor . Male gynecologists were fine back in olden times when women weren't doctors, but I have never even considered going to a male doctor since I graduated from pediatricians. Because i was in enough discomfort to have to have to take a day off of work, I booked an appointment with my first ever man gyno. They got me in within a week. I am not going to review the waiting room experience because it's a large office with several doctors and I am not going to blame him for the extra 20 minutes I had to wait or the fact that there were a handful of obnoxious patients waiting with me. Not the end of the world and not enough to taint my experience. Side note, toddlers with ipads are apparently more common that I would like to believe and the good news is- volume tends to be on full blast. The girl who called me in and took my blood pressure was awesome. she asked me some basic questions then left and almost immediately Dr. Garg walked in and apologized for the wait. He talked to me about my symptoms, left so I could change then came right back and did the exam. No fuss, very little discomfort. It wasn't awkward at all! Oddly enough it was less awkward than usual because he's the first doctor I've ever had NOT to cause me to burst into really awesomely awkward giggles during the breast exam. I'm extremely ticklish. Weird detail, I know. Also, I didn't end up having any of the rare disorders that the internet told me I might have. He talked to me for a solid 20 minutes before I left. He answered all my silly first time attempting to conceive questions with positivity, gave me some great advice and alleviated all my fears. I left feeling better (emotionally, mentally and physically) than I had in the last 6 months that my husband and I have been trying. As I walked out he said, "call me if you have any questions, otherwise I hope to see you soon with some good news!" I'm a fan. The experience made me feel so much better about pretty much everything. I've been really fortunate with my medical care in the 3 years I've lived in San Diego, Dr. Garg is just another example of that. Word to the wise- if you are concerned about being comfortable with a man doing your exam, don't be. It was painless. read more

Dr. Garg may be OK for childbirth but if you need a gynecologist forget him. He is distracted, unhelpful, and doesn't follow up. He couldn't seem to recommend HRT, ignored my symptoms and never called in my prescription as he said he would do. He also gave me a pap smear when I don't have a cervix but no pelvic? Very weird. Ok, here is an update. I called the office complaining that my prescription was not called in. So they do it while I'm on the phone. She tells me its for Estrace and Premarin. I asked if I'm supposed to take them together and she replys that I have to ask the pharmacist - that they will tell me how to take them. So I go to the pharmacy and the pharmacist says "they've made a mistake". You can't take these together. I think it would be an overdose. I give up on this place. Of course, that was my one "included" exam on my insurance. Now I'll have to pay someone else to do what he should have. read more

I just met Dr Garg and his assistant for the first time at their Mission Valley location. Both were friendly, professional and courteous. Both of them explained everything that was going to happen during the appointment in detail. Nothing felt rushed. I felt valued as a patient and a person. I went to this practice a couple of times for birth control. And it wasn't until I was referred to Dr. Anupam Garg that I felt at home and cared for. I was referred to him after the doctor at the hospital told me that I may be possibly having an ectopic pregnancy. We met and he was very on top of his game. He didn't patronize me or belittle my concern but he did get straight to the point which I highly appreciated. One of the first things he told me later as my husband and I were wanting to try to conceive was "this is your year". I thought at least somebody had faith for me. I'm so thankful to God for this doctor! He was the best OBGYN that I could have ever asked for. He was there for my pregnancy from beginning to end! I would highly recommend him! read more

Doctor Garg made me feel so comfortable and is very knowledgeable! I had never been to a male gynecologist and he made it so easy I will stick with him from now on through having babies. I recently had surgery and he knew about the new medications I was on and told me of any side effects that could affect my body. I would definitely recommend him! read more

I just want to say what a great Doctor , Dr. Garg is, he is the best doctor I have ever had. He preformed a laperscopic surgery on me 2 weeks ago. I feel great, he had great bedside manners, caring, laid back doctor, easy to talk to. I did have 1 problem the next day after I was discharged from the hospital, I call the office to leave a message for him and within minutes he called me immediately back. I just want to say thanks Dr. Garg you are great. read more

AVOID THIS OFFICE LIKE THE PLAGUE. I received prenatal care here from January through April, and met with Dr. Garg exactly once for a total of ninety seconds during that time. Dealing with the front office staff is a totally unpleasant experience; while I was being seen here, the office was acquired by Scripps which presented a logistical nightmare in terms of insurance (mine changed due to employment and I was informed I would need to select a different primary care group in order to continue being seen there, despite having been seen for months prior under the same group), delivery (I was told repeatedly that despite the switch, I would be able to deliver my baby at Sharp Mary Birch, then months later informed that was not the case) and records - when I did transfer my care away from this nightmare practice and requested my records be released to my new provider, it came to light that Dr. Garg's office had completely LOST my ultrasound scans and reports from SEVENTEEN WEEKS PRIOR. The office staff was totally rude, unhelpful, and not remotely apologetic about this incredible display of negligence, which necessitated me scheduling a totally unnecessary last-minute scan. EDIT: The office manager called back to rudely inform me that the scans had been "found on Dr. Garg's desk". FOUR MONTHS later? I can't even. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this practice. read more

I've only met Dr. Garg once while being his patient. Which seem a bit odd to me. There are other obgyn working along side with him. And when the day came when I had miscarried, he was not the one who spoke to me. The only time we have communicated with each other was from the first time I ever went there. Again, very odd. I am his patient and I would like it that MY obgyn was the one who would come and tell me the news. But he wasn't. That following night I had extreme unbearable pains and I couldn't take it so I went to the ER. I waited there for hours for no reason. He told the nurses to send me home with medication. Pain and sleeping pill. I had to take it before I left the premises. It ended up making me panic from the mixture of the two. I wasn't able to sleep. But he told all the nurses that they would handle any surgical procedures at their office. WRONG. The next day came around, and I'm in excruciating pain still. I was told that they didn't have the equipment to do so. Why didn't he say so to begin with when I was in the ER? Instead of sending me home medicated. And again he was not the one who spoke to me. The other obgyn that worked along side with him had to be the one to tell me. He was pretty much M.I.A through all of this. His office kept insisting I waited and have everything expel naturally. But it wasn't happening.. It wasn't going to go naturally. And guess where they told me to go? PLANNED PARENTHOOD. Why isn't any one of them trained to do it at the hospital like any other obgyn. I don't understand. And I had to wait another week for Planned Parenthood. By then I was exhausted. I kept going in and out of the hospital and Lab Corp to do blood tests. They pumped me up with more drugs. It was just not a fun time. This establishment needs to get their stuff together. The hospital would tell me one thing that my ob would say, and then I call my ob office and hear another. Nonsense. read more

I'm a true real patient of his. I've had ENDOMETRIOSIS for many years now and have suffered tremendously w horrible symptoms. I did a lot of homework and was serious, very serious in our first consult. I looked him dead square in the eye and begged for his help. He performed my excision surgery on 7/11/2012. Now keep in mind he is not an endo "specialist" but I feel he really genuinely tried his best w what tools and experience he had and can say that because of him I am 40-50% better than I was before I saw him. I've never told him this but I truly am thankful to him and feel bad I haven't written this review earlier. read more

Coming from the premises that I believe nobody is perfect and that everyone can make minor mistakes, I have enjoyed being Dr. Garg's patient since May of this year. I do realize, tho, that he may not be for everyone, just because his demeanor is lighthearted, easy and drama free. If you want a doctor who's going to make a big deal out of everything, then Dr. Garg is not for you. Not to say he's not caring; he's just not the kind of person that will get and get you worried unless there is something to worry about. That worked great for someone like me, often easily anxious when it comes to my baby's health (almost 9 months pregnant now). Sometimes, during some visits, I've thought that he may have spent some more time with me, but after being his patient for a few months now, I realize it's because he doesn't want to spend time instigating worries that are not needed, so he lets me speak and always answers all my concerns on the spot without interjecting with useless concerns. Only once has he messed up with meds prescriptions and it is fairly hard to get a hold of him directly on the phone if something is wrong, but honestly nowadays nurses are the ones who handle patients' concerns first hand at most hospitals since hospitals management often have unrealistic expectations of the amount of patients' flow a doctor can handle (you can thank the insurance companies for that, btw). He did rectify the issue within a week and it hasn't happened again. I admittedly wasn't happy since I'm seriously asthmatic, but as I said at the beginning, everyone can make mistakes ONCE. I also love my nurse at Dr. Garg's office, so I don't mind speaking to her if something needs to be addressed immediately. If you are one who must speak only to your doctor immediately, however, this office may not work for you, but good luck finding a solution to that using insurance (Kaiser anybody? Ugh!). The office staff has always been very kind and respectful to me since the very beginning, so I'm surprised to read some of the reviews complaining about them. Granted, there was this ONE TIME when I spoke to one of the girls first thing in the morning and she apparently failed to take notes, so no one knew I had called till I had to call again, but, again, everyone can mess up ONCE, in my opinion, and if they can rectify their mistake, I'm not quick to judge or write them off. In addition, I found Dr. Garg's office because, after being scheduled with UCSD for a certain date at the beginning of my pregnancy, UCSD refused to see me earlier even if I had been bleeding (lightly) for a few days. UCSD personnel told me to go to the ER (who wants to wait HOURS at the ER only to be told to go home and drink water and take some tylenol?), but they categorically refused to change my appointment's date, which was scheduled a couple of weeks later. That's when I found Dr. Garg's office, who scheduled me for the very day after and profusely apologized for not being able to arrange a same day appointment. That's the kind of stuff I appreciate and take note of when choosing a doctor. In conclusion, I would recommend Dr. Garg to a dear friend or family member, unless I knew that person expects perfection at every step of the way. Dr. Garg may not be perfect for everybody, but he has been close to perfection to me during my pregnancy :) I'm looking forward to seeing how my delivery goes shortly and will update accordingly. read more

I wouldn't recommend Dr. Garg if you're concerned about billing after his visit. I originally went for an annual check up and he sent a few lab work for additional research. I was not aware that I was going to end up with a bill that I've been disputing for almost a year between my insurance and his billing office. AND the medication prescribed was not effective, I had better results with a homeopathic medication that I found on Amazon. read more

I have been a patient with Dr. Garg for almost ten years. I was originally a patient with Dr. Schonbrun whose name is on the practice. I can remember meeting Dr. Garg and appreciating his calm demeanor and great listening skills. It felt like he had been caring for me for years. Dr. Schonbrun made an excellent choice to bring Dr. Garg to his team. When I panic...he stays calm and level headed and doesn't tell me what I want to hear. I can remember having issues with small fibroids and telling him "just remove my entire uterus." He said, "no, we have so many other options" as well as explained what my specific issue meant. He still shared the pros / cons of those other options if we got to that point. It truly was something to monitor and to be honest...they weren't causing issues. Not to mention, I was under 30yrs old. I was projecting issues. It wasn't until years later we decided the sudden excessive growth needed to be addressed. Every time I see him...he always recalls certain things about family and asks questions. I forget I am actually there for a medical concern. He allows me to share "my medical WebMD practice." He doesn't treat me as if I am on an assembly line. I appreciate his hard work. He is on the front line of practice and education every day. He is one of the leading physicians in Robotic Surgery. He is highly respected by his colleagues. One of my family members is a nurse and use to work at Scripps Mercy. When she found out Dr. Garg was my physician and performing a Robotic procedure on me, she could not stop saying how fortunate I was. As an OR nurse, she loved his efficiency and how well he took care of patients before, during and after surgery. Dr. Garg is phenomenal. I refuse to change my insurance plan to ensure he remains my OB/GYN. I look forward to him helping me bring a new life to this world! read more

Dr. Garg is AMAZING!!! If you are looking for an OBGYN then this is who you want to go see. Dr. Garg is not only a great doctor but he is also one of the most caring and sincere people I have ever met. You can tell when you are talking to him that he genuinely cares about every single thing you are asking about and he wants to put all of your fears at ease and get you the best possible answer he can to your question. There are a lot of good doctors out there but Dr. Garg is the BEST doctor you could ever have, has a great personality, and takes plenty of time to thoroughly go over any and all questions you may have. He guided me through a miscarriage and took all precautions to make sure I was ok and double checked just to make sure everything was back to normal so that I could try to conceive again. Which I did and am pregnant again and of course am going to Dr. Garg! I would send anyone I know to him as I know they would have a positive experience. There aren't many out there left like him. Simply the best!!! read more
