It's exciting to be in a new city, but also a little hard because you don't know where to eat. I want to stay away from anything near the tourist areas, but want something that is good and where locals eat. We found ourselves wandering around, again, and I mentioned we could just go back to MQM, but you also want to try something new as well. Well, we found ourselves in the same neighborhood, and though Ruben from MQM suggested Vinotito, it was pretty pricey and fancy. We wanted something a little more down to earth. Antonio was right across the street and we decided to give it a chance.
We got a table in the back and it has a warm and inviting feeling. Our server spoke very little English but was friendly and nice enough to give us the English menu as well. We ordered patatas brava and little chorizo sausages, which were okay, but the patatas were great...they came with a garlic mayo and spicy sauce on top. As per our server's suggestion, we ordered the house specialty...Cornejo en salsa al ajillo, or rabbit in garlic sauce...LOL! This dish was very good! Sort of like chicken, but then again, doesn't everything that isn't beef? LOL!
We also ordered wine and our server explained that it was 8E for a bottle of the house, but he then showed us another that was 40E....okay, we'll take the house! LOL! It turned out to be pretty good and there was no label.
Me: So wine in a bag in a box and then they just refill...LOL!
Overall, it was a very pleasant meal. The place started to fill up. Some young guys sat near us, but ever since my attempted pick pocket experience in Madrid, my guard is a little high. But we did feel relatively safe the whole time we walked around. Everything was good, although the partner did not care for the little sausages. The garlic sauce was so good, we started dipping our bread into it. The rabbit does come on the bone.
Me gusta Antonio Manuel! read more
