From the moment I arrived, the entire office was welcoming and attentive. One thing that really stood out to me was that no one made the visit feel rushed--something that unfortunately isn't always the case with medical appointments. Dr. Tollefson took the time to really talk through everything with me. He explained the situation clearly, went over the pros and cons of my options, and made sure I understood everything before making any decisions. I left the appointment feeling fully informed and completely comfortable with the path forward, which is exactly what you hope for when seeking a second opinion. There was also just a calm, thoughtful atmosphere during the visit. Instead of feeling like another quick appointment on the schedule, it felt like genuine care and attention were given to making sure I had all the knowledge I needed. Helpful tip: If you're looking for a second opinion on an ENT or facial surgery issue, come prepared with your questions. Dr. Tollefson really takes the time to answer them thoroughly. Finding a doctor who is both knowledgeable and willing to truly walk you through your options is rare, and I'm really grateful I found him. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Although he specializes in facial plastic surgery, he also travels to Ecuador and China to care for children with facial deformities such as cleft lip and palate. This man has a heart of gold! Once he arrived into the exam room, He immediately made a comment about Madbum! But wait! This guys a Royals fan. Was he trying to impress me ? Haha. ! I was sent to Dr. Tollefson not because I have insecurities or because im self conscious, but because I am my very own toughest critic. I can nitpick all day about things I notice on my face but are completely invisible to other people like Dr. Tollefson himself. What I wanted to have done, Dr. Tollefson refused to do because he's jus the type of person who wont do something he feels isn't important or beneficial. He could've easily agreed to everything and possibly botch my face but he told me he looks at patients as if they were a family member and if he'd want them to go through these procedures. What a kind man, you are mister Tollefson! So even though I didn't get anything done by him, I do have to say that I recommend him because he's honest, kind, and passionate about his work.

Thankfully I was able to…read moreget some relief from Dr. Mark Grijnsztein and he referred me to Dr. Goldwyn as he thought I'd likely require surgery. I was able to get an appointment in a reasonable amount of time and I found Dr. Goldwyn to be very friendly, honest, knowledgeable, and transparent. I had ear tubes as a young child and he recommended I have them placed a second time to help prevent recurrent ear infections due to my eusthasian tubes both being slightly wonky. He also recommended I have my sinuses cleaned out due to some polyps and my deviated septum repaired. I agreed and surgery was scheduled for several weeks later. I felt confident in his game plan and was reassured when he ordered a number of preoperative blood tests. The day of surgery he reiterated the game plan and goals and surgery was flawlessly executed. My post operative care and healing was pretty simple. Years later my wife had an emergency appointment to determine if she had a very rare brain fluid (CSF) leak. Dr. Goldwyn did the greatest job doing his due diligence and ordering the referral and tests that likely saved her life. He was even in a bit of a predicament as he was heading out on vacation and the lab test he ordered takes a few days for the results to be delivered. He kindly referred her to his colleague Dr. Young who did a fantastic job managing her care and later performing her surgery. Several months later I believed my allergies had flared up, only to be shocked to learn I have severe GERD (heartburn). Dr. Grijnsztein once again recommended I see Dr. Goldwyn to get his assessment of things as I was feeling miserable and things had really snuck up on me. He was bluntly honest and transparent and told me the best thing I could do to get better and eliminate or minimize the effects of things would be to continue to work on losing weight. Like many I gained weight during the pandemic and I'm also partially disabled due to spine injuries sustained in a car accident. Thankfully with his honest guidance and the slight tweaking of my medications I'm feeling much better. I'm still a little leary and nervous to eat my beloved spicy foods, but in time I think I'll slowly regain my confidence to indulge and try them if I don't sustain any significant side effects. I can't thank him enough for his follow through, helpfulness, honesty, knowledge, and professionalism over the years to both my wife as well as myself. He's truly one of a kind in a full house. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your wonderful years of service to the Sacramento community.

ENTs are in short supply, there's no great solution as far as getting good care quickly…read more I'd say this guy is top notch, the doctor himself gets 5 stars, it's just the office scheduling apparatus is confusing if you're a bit disorganized. Problems were really due to my own disorganization but if you aren't punctual and organized you'll have to reschedule. First off it took about 6-7 weeks to get an appointment, but this is actually good as I explain later. Apparently ENTs need an audiologist's report to have an objective chart of frequency/deficit relationships with your hearing. This takes an hour, too expensive for an MD to do--so this is done by an ancillary person-- audiologist -- who has to have a separate appointment with you. So you get two appointments. There are also two offices, one in Woodland and one in Davis and if you are get confused and go to the wrong place you'll be too late to make it to the other office and will have to make another appointment maybe a week later. Guess how I know. They do try to schedule you with the audiologist one hour before doctor at the same location so if everything goes smooth it's not a headache. So make sure you grasp not just WHEN but WHERE your appointment is, because if you google the phone number to get the appointment it's two layers, you get the referral service first who gets you on a separate call to the people who can actually tell you when and where your appointment is. And they might not remind you WHICH OFFICE your appointment is. It's definitely more clumsy than have a number getting you to a receptionist who directly looks things up. Zavod himself is great, obviously very smart, very polite but engaging with refined Old World manners. I guess the long time to get an appointment helps him from being overworked and burnt out. He takes time to thoroughly get your history and details, and the time to carefully and sympathetically explain everything. Other doctor's offices I've gone to have a crowded waiting room because they're doing a model where the MD spends the absolute minimum time to bill the service with you, tell you the general category of your diagnosis, and then the next patient is herded in. They are at best superficially genial and detached, and you can tell they are not really interested in medicine anymore. They aren't tuned into the nuances of your particular case which offer the opportunity to optimize treatment. Zavod's not like that, he seems to have his clinical curiosity and empathy intact. At one point I laughed when he was describing my moderately severe condition and he looked sort of shocked. I explained that the whole apparatus he was carefully explaining was sort of comical, and reassured him I took my condition seriously. He wanted me to take my case seriously because he himself did, which is a good ad for him. I only acted so weird because I'm sort of a Buddhist and the body is just a cloud floating by.

If anybody suggests you might need sinus surgery (or fix a previous surgery) see whoever you like…read more BUT do yourself a favor and at a minimum make sure you also see Dr. Vaughan before you decide who you want to have messing about with your sinusitis. This surgeon is nothing short of amazing. A different Sacramento sinus surgeon performed sinus surgery on me about 4 years ago and did not do a good job. (This was not some unknown surgeon -- he's a busy Sacramento surgeon.) After resigning myself to believe I would be stuck with chronic sinus problems for the rest of my life, I complained to my allergist's PA. She suggested I go meet with Dr. Vaughan. I also spoke with the allergist and he echoed her recommendation. They both told me that Dr. Vaughan has a reputation for fixing problems caused by other surgeons' shortcomings. I was reluctant to have another surgery but went to go discuss my problems with Dr. Vaughan nonetheless. He took the time to fully explain to me the shortcomings of the last procedure, what he could do, etc. I delayed having a follow up surgery for over a year, but finally thought I should see if Dr. Vaughan really could make a difference. I can't tell you how glad I am that I did. Dr. Vaughan did an absolutely amazing job -- it's been 11 months since my surgery and I haven't had any sinus problems since then. I can't stress enough that I thought I would be cursed with sinus problems the rest of my life and had resigned myself to it. Dr. Vaughan made a drastic improvement in my quality of life and I am forever grateful. Dr. Vaughan rotates offices, but I would encourage anyone to grab an appointment with him when he's at his Sacramento office (it was not at all difficult to schedule an appointment with him) or go visit him at one of his other offices if you can't wait. Also, don't be surprised if you get a call(s) from Dr. Vaughan checking up on you -- he's so genuinely interested that he may call you himself. Beyond being a great surgeon and very personable/cheerful. Finally, I'mI recommending him here on Yelp, but more importantly I would and do give him my heartiest endorsement to my friends and family.
