This place looks like a cute bar on the edge of one of the prettiest piazzas in Monti, but this experience was a weird mix of poor service and an actually not-so-nice bar.
Distinguished by wooden rafters and original artwork, the narrow bar contains pretty seating areas and a beer fridge stocked with a nice range of craft ales. However, that's where the attention to detail stops.
We noticed a smell of mould as soon as we stepped inside, and this pervaded the whole bar. I asked for a gin and tonic, noting on the board that premium gins like Tanqueray and Hendricks cost a little bit more than Gordon's, for example.
I asked if the bar stocked limes before ordering. The barman said they did, stuck a pint glass on the bar, added a fistful of ice and started pouring in Tanqeray.
'You want Tanqueray?'
'No, Gordon's is fine.'
'Oh, I've done it now.'
He proceeded to squeeze in a quarter of lime and top the pint glass up to the rim with a cheap tonic that hadn't been chilled. The result was a poorly mixed, warm unpleasant G&T in a thick glass which cost me €8. I didn't argue about the price, which was for a premium brand, but made a mental note not to come back.
The barman apparently noticed the look on my face as he offered Sabino S and I shots as well. Bizarrely imprecise and sloppy service, in an area which is teaming with mixology experts. read more
