Overall, it is a beautifully located restaurant with an extensive menu. This was a slightly overpriced place but the location makes up for it being in front of the theater. I ordered the grilled selection of fish and it was 58 (euro). For what you got, it was not worth it. It tasted good, but for the price, was overpriced. The sliced beef angus was really good! Very tender and flavorful. This one was priced decently. The tiramisu was good, it was your classic tiramisu flavor. The service was pretty good. Our server came by periodically and checked in. Came here before an opera. We started with the spritz, which I really enjoyed. App was risotto with shrimp and mushroom - beautifully created dish and even more delish. Their house bread was incredible - a danger to state the least, as their menu options were exquisite as well. Had the veal petals for my main. Super flavorful. My dining partner had the catch of the day, which they filleted at table-side. It came with fried zucchini strings which I loved as well. Dessert was of course, tiramisu. I'd give it 5 stars for the food but the food is unfortunately served by some very unhelpful and unfriendly waiters. We were celebrating our 46 weddings anniversary so the snub felt a little less than celebratory. We ate indoors as outside tables were full but it turned out the interior was very lovely. The scallop appetizer was scrumptious and the lamb chops were delicious. I had originally ordered the specialty of the night, spider crab, but the waiter returned and said they had run out. Curiously I did see some being served as we were leaving after our dinner. I guess you had to 'know' someone to get the crab. If I hadn't felt like I was imposing on the staff by my presence, it would have been perfect. read more

Made a reso here on whim before we arrived to Venice. We wanted one fancy night out to celebrate my husbands birthday. It was pricy but we went there prepared for that. Our entrees were extremely good! Contrary to many of the older reviews, my husband had the filet with black truffle sauce on it and it was delicious! Currently, my husband and I are writing this review from another restaurant because we walked out of Antico Martini. After looking at their menu, which was overpriced, we noticed the majority of their food had stars next to it. If this is your first time in Italy, stars mean frozen. We paid for our water, and left. As we were leaving, they keep suggesting for us to go next door to another restaurant because and I quote, "it's easy, pizza, pasta," as if to patronize us. In my mind I kept thinking this guy is nuts. More than 2/3s of your menu is frozen. I think he was implying that we couldn't afford the food but we were implying that they were serving overpriced frozen food. read more

Ate there one time at the recommendation in Departure Magazine which stated that this was one of the best in Venice, but I could not disagree more. The food was not fresh, the ingredients were of poor quality and the presentation was poor. Did I say that it was also very expensive. They charged us 3 euros per person as a cover charge ( whatever that means), our total bill was 255 euro which included an automatic 14% service charge We had an appetizer and a main dish, no wine and no dessert. AVOID! This restaurant is the definition of a tourist trap. We started with the seared four gras which unlike the description and what the waiter had explained (I am fluent in Italian so no language barrier or room for mistranslation) had no sear and tasted morbid without flavor not to mention the accompanying sauce was too sweet (overpowering the meat) while the toast itself was too thick and had no crunch to offset the softness of the foie gras. Our entrees were worse. My main of misto fritto was particularly horrible to the point where I could not consume it. Even the service was subpar despite the fact they charge a mandatory 12% for it. I will say the gelato was good but by that point in the meal nothing could make up for the terrifying first and second course that will forever haunt my tastebuds. For two disappointed restaurant goers, the final tag of a 155 euro only added insult to injured taste buds. This was by far the WORST meal we had not only in Italy but potentially in America as well. At best, it is an overpriced, low level Italian American restaurant that just happened to be located in Venice. read more

My wife and I attended a performance at La Fenice and our hotel concierge recommended this historic restaurant as a nice place for dinner afterwards. Please, save yourself the time and money and go somewhere else! We were seated immediately upon arriving, but then waited about 15 minutes for menus and drink orders. This is how service went for the rest of the night - at best, neglectful, at worst, hostile. The food is incredibly overpriced - my four small scallops, so tough they required a knife, cost us 27.00 euros. My wife's sea bass was plain and came with overcooked sliced carrots like you would receive in a cafeteria, and cost over 30.00 euros. We're happy to pay for a fine meal, but this was so subpar we left without even looking at a desert menu - something we never do! Our drink glasses sat empty (along with our water glasses) for the last 30 minutes of our meal - it's hard to believe this place considers itself fine dining. To be fair we have not had great service in Venice overall during our trip, but the food here was also so awful it stood out from our other meals. With 1,000 some restaurants in the city, you can do much better. read more

Elegant restaurant right by the Teatro La Fenice, had a lovely meal there - started with tempura vegetables & prosciutto and melon, which were both great. We had the spaghetti alla vongole veraci, which I loved, very nicely prepared, and my friend had the lamb which he thought was great(I was too happy with my vongole to try it!). For dessert they offered a Venetian specialty called "crema fritti" - which was indeed fried cream, but absolutely wonderful. Seated immediately. 15 min or so before drinks were ordered and at that time my wife and I ordered and appetizer (Caprese) which was wonderful and fresh. My wife ordered lasagna but got ravioli (still good), I ordered the roast beef, medium, based on the hosts recommendation. The roast beef came out over cooked and tough as nails. Ordered a glass of wine which never came. And when I flagged the waiter and he totally ignored us. We wanted more drinks and deserts, but we feel more inclined to take our business to someplace we feel wants it. This restaurant was recommended by our hotel concierge. Nice atmosphere but really pricy. Servings are also small. When we asked the server for recommendations, he went straight for the most expensive items. The food was great but extremely high in price. A small portion of Spaghetti in meat sauce was $21 Euro, a side of some very delicious fried zucchini was 9 Euro. I had the Tagliatelle Gamberi which was $26 Euro and the shrimp were miniature a small portion of pasta. My husband had the Giant prawns with zucchini which were delicious but about 42 Euro. We ate dinner at this amazing establishment this evening after a wonderful sunny early September day. Just before leaving for the restaraunt a storm blew in. What ensued was memorable for us but a nightmare for the staff. While offering impeccable service they were sweeping a flood of rain along with hail out of the restaurant. I've just returned from Italy where there are some really nice and good-value restaurants e.g. in Florence and Rome. But this restaurant next to the Venice opera house was a terrible disappointment. The waiters passes rude remarks, the food was very expensive but of inferior quality e.g. the pasta with swordfish had absolutely no fish in it and was half-cooked with many really hard bits. When the waiter was told about this (and the cover charge slapped on) he shrugged it off. Appalling. Gave the impression Venice is full of scammers. read more
