I learned of this place from a travel blogger. We had a great first meal in Italy but the pizza wasn't immensely better than anywhere else. Good, but not life changing.

    Ricotta-mushroom-truffle pizza [5.0 stars] - view 1 of 2

Looking for a place to eat on our final night in Florence, we were tired and wanted something good to eat within walking distance from our hotel. The gf and I found on Yelp a place, very close, and it took us 1 block over from the main drag -- I had thought it was entirely residential. That restaurant was booked for the night, so we started heading down the block. We found 3 other delightfully good-looking places to eat, and chose Antica Porta amongst them. We were not wrong. Sidewalk tables, a small amount of tables inside near the kitchen...is all we saw, and hoped for. Instead, they escorted us to the back when tons of tables appeared, busting at the seems with diners, parties, families. Mostly locals, I think we were on to something. It was indeed buzzing, great energy, great vibe. Mainly a pizza place, after all, they have 30 choices with all kinds of toppings. They had a few pastas and salads, some specials that were noteworthy. It had a modern feel. We got 2 items, ravioli with ragu (she, 4.5 stars), a ricotta-mushroom-truffle pizza (me, 5.0 stars). The ravioli was fresh, 4 large pieces, with a wonderful sauce and small diced and tender pancetta. My pizza, one of the best I've had on my trip, had incredible flavor, great cheeses, and a worthy crust. Overall, friendly service all around, this was a wonderful experience.

Friends service. Was given an English menu right of the bat since we obviously couldn't speak Italian. Food was delicious. I definitely recommend the truffle and portobello mushroom pizza! I took away 1 star because the place had no air conditioner.

    Mushroom and truffle oil pizza

This is my favorite pizza place in Florence. We were in Florence for 1 week and ended up eating here twice. Our group tried a variety of pizzas but my favorite was the mushroom and truffle oil pizza, so delicious and smells so good. Appetizers were also good - burrata, meats, cheeses. We also had a fried seafood app which was perfectly fried and very light. Definitely recommended if you want to get away from the tourist areas to go to somewhere all the locals go. Try to get there early when they open or you'll be waiting for a table.

No table service here, you order up front and wait at your table for your food to be ready. Great menu selection to choose from. I ordered the regular sized pizza topped with tomato, mozzarella, spicy calabrese salame, and mushrooms. The crust was thin and perfectly crisp. The pizza was fresh and still steaming hot when I brought it back to my hotel which was a 5 minute walk away. The pizza took about 5 minutes to make so if you're in a hurry or hangry, this place is fantastic for a quickly prepared meal.

The #9 was gorgonzola and pear. It came out piping hot and the cheese was almost falling off the pizza it was so fresh. This pizza has changed my understanding of what a great pizza is. Thin, delicious, not greasy, extra cheesy, and combined with the pear perfectly. I thought I'd only eat half, but easily finished all of it because it wad that mind blowing. My wife loved her pizza as well, but sure was jealous of the #9. Now on to the owner. It was just my wife and I and Luciano the owner in the store. He talked to us for a good 15 minutes after we were done eating and even gave us a fresh slice of prosciutto to try after asking if we liked Pork... just because we were talking about how fresh food makes the difference between good and bad food. Such an amazing owner that really puts passion into his product. Give this place a try and you will not be disappointed with the food here!
