Decent place. Lindsey Buss is their lifesaver. But their master class is like a CULT.

Through improv, scene study, and commercial sessions, he has developed skills I never expected to see so quickly. His Junior Varsity class with Gayla Goehl has been a highlight, and he genuinely loves showing up every single week. What sets Gayla apart is her philosophy. She has a gift for helping each student discover their own authentic voice rather than molding them into someone else's idea of a performer. She meets every kid exactly where they are, and the confidence my son has built under her guidance carries far beyond the stage. Gayla creates a space where he feels comfortable asking questions, talking openly, and truly being himself. Her warmth makes her more than a coach. She is a trusted mentor. As a parent, knowing your child has that kind of support system is invaluable. She does not push. She inspires. Her advice has been spot-on every time, and her open-door approach makes both students and parents feel like they are truly part of a community. Highly recommend Gayla and The Playground to any parent looking for a place where their child can grow, thrive, and love the process.

I originally discovered it for my son and kept asking if they offered adult classes. At the time, they didn't--but recently I got an email that they finally are! I started taking classes with Gayla a few months ago, and I truly can't say enough good things. Tuesday nights have become something I genuinely look forward to every week. It's not just fun--it's therapeutic, challenging, and way more fulfilling than I ever expected. Gayla is an incredible teacher. She really pushes you, is honest in the best way, and creates such a supportive environment to grow. Easily one of the best teachers I've ever had. If you've been thinking about trying acting, just go for it.

Andrew Hall, the owner, and operator of The School of Light offered to teach me one-on-one during a weekend workshop to make sure I was fully prepared and confident for the advanced darkroom class. In a weekend, my world changed. I learned the art and mechanics of film photography, sharpened my perspectives for light and shadow, processed my own film, and developed my own prints. Nothing is quite as exciting as watching your photograph come to life, or as empowering as knowing you have full creative control in the darkroom. Low and behold, I was fully equipped for the advanced class - which was nothing short of magnificent. Andrew is incredibly friendly, passionate, patient, engaging, inspiring, a true artist with a wealth of expertise, and an exceptional instructor for your journey into the darkroom. I've since taken numerous classes at SoL and continue to expand my creativity into exotic and uncharted realms. The people who attend Andrew's workshops are just as friendly and likeminded as you. Everyone gets along and encourages each other; it's indeed a splendid place.

More than just a well-equipped darkroom, Andrew's photographic experience is an incredible resource for Los Angeles photographers. Not only that, almost everyone I've met at print nights is equally passionate and excited about the creative process and makes the whole experience outstanding.

Since graduation, I have received a variety of support through additional coaching via Zoom which has given me the confidence to continue pursuing my passion with fervor. The days were thoughtfully planned out, and we touched on everything one would need to gain the confidence to start and/or evolve their business. The word that comes to mind is "clarity." I gained clarity at who I am at my core and how that expands into all facets of my business. I gained clarity on both my immediate and long term goals and how to prioritize them. And I gained clarity on what was holding me back. I arrived alone but left with 3 close friends and two mentors that I can't thank enough for helping me realize and shape a dream I had one day in 2020. 4/5/22 No matter where you are in your career and/or life, you deserve to do this for YOU. I had a bit of an inferior complex going in because I have zero training or experience in Interior Design, and this course is designed literally for every one at every level. The team has designed such an approachable program that touches on all aspects of the process. Wanda - our fabulous instructor - brings real world examples into every lesson that helps contextualize beyond the classroom. In addition, the "white box challenge" was such a fun practice run of what it's like to design in the real world. If you're on the fence about joining, just do it! You'll never regret doing this for you, even if it's just to serve a need to design your own house. I can unequivocally say that the Academy of Home Staging & Design changed my life, and it prepared me for a life where my job doesn't feel like a job at all. Oh - and I made talented, lifelong friends in the process!

It's like a magical journey for my olfactory system and it's never a quick visit. Persephenie's shop is stocked with a dizzying array of resins, oils and scents. Her shelves display her eponymous line of body care and perfumes as well as essential oils, handcrafted jewelry and burners and Japanese and Indian incense. I have her full line of bodycare and perfumes and much to my husband's consternation, I am addicted. Her Rose Paka Healing Restorative Butter soothes my daughter's inflamed eczema. The Nanu Lei Bath Powder is a relaxing and calming indulgence for my sons. Island Violet is something I would take to a deserted island. I wear her perfumes daily, Leatherwood during the day and Datura at night. These perfumes are unlike all the commercial perfumes out there. The linger subtly, does not sour after a few hours and never cloying. The Bedouin is her all botanical perfume and is my daughter's favourite scent. And believe it or not, my boys wear Kildren regularly. Her shop is also a great place to stock up on incense and I am a huge fan of her handcrafted burners. And I am this close to getting a diffuser. I came in for specific treatments and left with more damage and financial loss. 1. FAILED ROOT CANAL (Tooth #3): My insurance company refused to cover a crown for a root canal done AT THIS CLINIC because their review found the procedure was "inadequate and incomplete." Now, I have to pay for a retreatment on a tooth that was already weakened by their mistake. 2. MISDIAGNOSIS & WRONG EXTRACTION (Tooth #20 vs #19): I specifically went in to have a filling on Tooth #20 checked. I even paid $50 out-of-pocket for a 3D Scan for each tooth to ensure accuracy. Despite these advanced images and the extra cost, the student doctor dismissed my concerns, claimed #20 was "healthy," and told me the pain was coming from Tooth #19. Based on this, I had #19 extracted. The pain didn't stop. I later discovered ON MY OWN that the filling on #20 was loose and moving. They had the 3D scans, they took my money, and they still missed an obvious problem. Because of their misdiagnosis, I lost a tooth (19) and left the actual problem (20) untreated for weeks, risking another root canal. While I have had professional student doctors here in the past (like Dr. Fukawa and Dr. Perez), the current level of care and diagnosis is DANGEROUS. Students are learning, but there seems to be a serious lack of oversight when it comes to critical decisions. If you value your teeth and your time, make sure you get a second opinion before letting them drill or pull anything.

The instructors are *incredible* -- I've taken two classes with Jack Kukoda and Todd Waldman, and my scripts are eons beyond what I would have been able to accomplish alone. They are fantastic writers who have written MANY of my favorite shows (Superstore, Community, Happy Endings!!!) and I get to take a small, personalized class with them??? Sometimes people can Do but not Teach-- it is clear Writing Pad seeks instructors who excel at both.
