Tony is a very nice person...and his classes are "alright", but everything he is teaching I learned 10 years ago in Acting 101. For the most part, I would say that it is all marketing, as he is not teaching anything new - just calling it something different. He says everything is about listening and responding, and getting out of your head...which is great...but half the time you are yelled (while on stage) at about your "left brain", and how not to listen to it, etc...Which brings you back INTO your head. When I say "yelling", that is literal. Witnessing these people being "yelled at" (albeit, not my Tony himself, but other teachers), the problem is not their left brain...it is tension, I sat there witnessing the one girl tense up from he hands, all the way up to her shoulder when the scene got intimate. All she had to do was be told to relax her hand/arm - and the scene would have progressed naturally...instead she was yelled at for listening to her "left brain". He puts down other techniques, stating that his is the way to go...but what he teaches is a combination of all the ones he puts down. The Master Class has scenes ranging from very good to just "okay". Most of the scene work I do is at a much higher level...so my first impression was that it really cannot be too hard to get into this Master class. Well...his decision-making when allowing people to get into the Master Class to actually all political. After our intro class was done, 2 people were immediately sent to his Master Class - and not because they mastered his technique or were particularly any good...it was because both had recognizable current credits on a TV series. Everyone in our class was shocked. Well that's great...but why advance people into a Master Class who did not catch on to what you were teaching in your intro? I want to be in a Master Class where people are invited because they are talented and are all at the same level - not because they are recognizable. Auditors only get to see the Master Class...so one can put two and two together... A good place to start if you are a beginner...but not if you are experienced and want to get really deep into your scene work. read more

I will be forever grateful for this class as an entry into acting. Some of the deepest, most cathartic moments happened early on into my time here. However, the teachers are not the same in technique, personality or quality. One of the teachers here, my first, changed the course of my life. However, the ones later paled in comparison especially at the LA studio. I had a teacher that continued to chip away at my confidence and gave me inconsistent feedback, getting me in my head and so confused. One week she would say to do one thing, then the next week another. I also have heard some reports of her trying to get people into a religious group that seems suss. Many of the teachers crossed the line in terms of what was appropriate to share. I know that it is the job of the teacher to find and pull out emotions, but not to re-traumatize someone and use that are their work when they aren't ready to nor want to. There is a line, even if it's not always clear. Most of the students tend to use this as their therapy session and take up valuable class time. I always left feeling drained when I really just wanted to focus on the work not be buried in unprocessed, inappropriate emotional baggage. I will say I met some very cool people here, but some of the teachers are also actors and they can be all over the place, not show up some days, show up super late because they had a callback/audition, not return emails. I think they were asking for too much grace because students do understand the hustle but then again, we are paying for a class.. also, leaving it up to students to coordinate with their partner and find scenes can be challenging when the other person doesn't put in any effort. I've never been a big fan of "Scene Study" which is what the vast majority of acting classes in Los Angeles consist of. But after reading all the positive reviews on yelp and actorrated, I had to audit Anthonly Meindl's Workshop to see for myself. From the first moment I audited the master class, I was enthralled. The quality of the work I witnessed was fiercely unapologetic and truthful. And Tony was an inspiring and charismatic teacher. Within an hour of stepping foot into the master class, I knew that this is a guy who "get it".. this is a teacher I could learn from. And this wasn't traditional scene study in any sense, this was something fresh and new... and completely liberating. I have grown exponentially as an actor thanks to this studio. Tony always told us from day one that we would experience a huge "shift" in our acting within 6 weeks, and he was right. I have been at AMAW going on 6 months now, and it has become a safe haven for me as an actor to play and to grow. I have completely transformed as an actor since the day I started, and I'm still having breakthroughs and growing month after month. All the instructors are fantastic, and I've been blessed to have been able to study with both Tony and Jonathan Kehoe who is also brilliant. This place feels like the pulse of the acting community here in Los Angeles. This is where things are happening. This is the place to be. Over the course of my life I've attended an assortment of acting studios and studied a variety of techniques ranging from the Chubbuck Technique, to Meisner, to Stanislavksy, to Strassberg. After dabbling in Los Angeles for sometime I found Anthony Meindl's Workshop per the recommendation of a friend. Anthony teaches the purest approach to acting I've ever come across. His technique is revolutionary because everything he teaches is about exploring who you are and bringing it to the surface by grounding yourself in truth by living in the moment. So many professional actors talk about the importance of finding truth, being in the moment, and listening, but Anthony is the only coach I've come across who is actually teaching it as a way of performing. What makes his work and approach so important is that he is not only teaching you how to be present in your work, but present in your life. I have been taking at Tony's studio for about one year and a half and have done many acting classes, programs, etc. I graduated from UCLA and had done acting there and in Paris and finally in Los Angeles where I completed a 2 1/2 year Meisner program at another studio. By far Tony's studio is top of the line and has the kind of acting you want to be taught which is based in truth. The teachers that work with Tony: Lindsay, Jonathon and others are all extremely gifted in their own acting work, but in also knowing how to intuitivley guide students. They are able to pin point and really be right on during the talk back after scene work to help each student with what he/she needs to learn. And don't get me started on Tony, he is not just an acting guru, but a life guru!!! Another thing I love about the studio is it's youthful energy and it is in a great location on Melrose in West Hollywood. Not to say there are not older actors, there are actors of all ages. A lot of the actors at the studio are actually working and booking work and I feel it is a great place to network and to get motivated and feel "in it" I don't know if it still exists but you can audit one of Tony's classes to see how you like it....that's what I did and I stayed! read more

If you want to better yourself as an actor in Los Angeles, this is the spot to be! I audited several different places, but when I came to this class, it was a no-brainer. Anthony is the most passionate and inspiring teacher I've ever come across. Every class is uplifting. The studio encourages students to stop masking how you feel, and feel what you feel in the moment...both in class and in your daily life. This has been challenging, but VERY liberating. Whether it's a cold read or a scene you've read a thousand times, students will learn to commit to whatever they are feeling. During a scene, the teachers will help students to release any judgements they have about themselves, and just learn to commit to the moment. The class becomes a nice mixture of scene study, improv, and cold reading. The studio is also a great place to get results. In the few months I've been here, I've met casting directors, got an agent, and started booking roles! I cannot recommend AMAW enough. It is a good place to grow as a person and actor. I only started at the workshop a little over a month ago and I have to say that I have loved every minute of it. Anthony Meindl's Actors Workshop is so much more than an average acting studio. It is a place that fosters growth in all aspects of life. Here you learn how to be truthful to yourself and to the people in your life, which ultimately gets reflected in your performances. I remember the first time I came to watch one of Anthony's classes and was so inspired by what he had to say and how the actors performed that I couldn't imagine not being a part of it. I recently moved my talent from Orlando FL. to Los Angeles. In Orlando I was blessed to have some successes being a working TV and Film actor. I must say that I don't think much of my success would have been possible with out a being apart of a wonderful acting school and with the help of driven and caring coaches. Wow... What can I say about Tony's Workshop? I moved to Los Angeles about 6 months ago from New York City. My good friend, and then acting coach, told me to audit about 5 different studios (Tony's was one of them) I am not going to mention the other studios (great studios), but Tony's was the right fit for me. In his Acting class, he teaches a wonderful philosophy on, not only life, but your work as an actor, writer, or anything else for that matter. This is by far the best acting class in Los Angeles and Anthony Meindl is the best acting coach there is. The work is very different from the standard outdated methods, which can do you more harm than good. I came in with little prior experience and in a matter of weeks, my work has reach amazing grounds... that I never thought possible. I've now been in class for over a year and every class is a new learning experience. What's also great is that all of the students are also so supportive. The entire studio is behind you and there is a great sense of community and bonding between the actors, which is rare. I hadn't trained or studied as an actor in a number of years and must admit I was pretty intimidated to get back into it, especially in Los Angeles. AMAW has become a hub of creativity for me. I have been studying there for a couple of years, with a handful of their teachers, and have always felt supported by the staff, teachers and my peers. I truly feel like I have become a better human being and actor from my time there.
