I started studying here October 2018 and highly recommend the studio. I've seen tremendous growth in my skills as an actor since and am always telling people about how much the studio has helped me understand and hone this craft that I love so much. The irony of studying "to act" is that you're really becoming more truthful and present, and not really "acting" at all. You're reacting to the situation as a real person would, just within the context of the story you're telling. Anthony's always telling us "just be a human being", and "live in the moment", sounds almost too easy right? Believe me, it's not. Anthony prepares his actors to be working professionals, which is reflected in all the classwork we do, from on set exercises to scene study to character interviews. I had never taken an acting class before joining the studio that SPECIFICALLY focuses on preparing to work in tv and film, things like knowing how to limit your movements while on camera (an especially terrible habit I had going into class was excessively touching my face or hair - something you obviously cannot do while on camera). How to move in a closeup vs a wide shot, etc. I could ramble on forever but you should just audit a class to find out for yourself, something that is free and available to everyone interested in potentially joining the studio. I like Anthony's no bullshit approach as an instructor, where he will call you out if you aren't doing the work, but also always providing constructive and specific feedback to actually help actors improve. There are other awesome instructors that I've taken classes with highly recommend too, such as Christina's yoga for actors, and Noah Baron's audition workshop (I literally booked the next commercial I auditioned for following taking this workshop last year). I also have made great industry connections with casting directors following the Biz of Acting panels offered a few times a year to studio members. Again, trying to limit my rambling... This isn't just a hobby for me. I've booked paid work and auditioned in rooms I never would have dreamed of being in prior to studying here. I booked my first audition, trusting myself and training leading to SAG eligibility principle, from what was originally an extra role. Wow, wait until you read this. I have not been a student of Anthony's in over 5 months. I moved out here from Olympia, Wa. I was a young, ambitious, "networking" actor who had JUST graduated high school. I was more passionate about having a career in film then I had ever imagined possible. I was here for about a year and six month. I had tried and studied with many other acting coaches. I had learned a lot by this point and gone out on many auditions for rolls that ranged from a lead on a comedy central pilot to a proactive commercial to a UCLA student film. I was still feeling the passion! Still feeling that unimaginable drive to accomplish something great and make my mark on the film industry. It was about this time I signed up for Anthony Gilardi Acting Studio. And it was one of the best decision I had made as an actor. It was Anthony Gilardi that told me the truth. It was Anthony Gilardi that told me what kind of a place LA was. Told me what kind of world we lived in. Told me the truth about the acting industry. Helped me understand the business I was stepping into. This was intimidating but empowering and exciting. What followed, was Anthony Gilardi teaching me how to act. Teaching me how to loose the nerves and get lost in the character. One week I am doing a scene and he's saying "No!" interrupting, making me restart and go back to the beginning, pausing my performance to ask thing like "Why are you doing that" and all this interrupting was to show me the importance of "DOING YOUR HOMEWORK" which Anthony takes very serious. So he gives me some notes, simple notes, and tells me to come next week when I had done the work. So I did. The following week I went on stage and it was like an entirely different performance and show. My scene partner and I had a blast living as these characters on stage. Other students at break were complimenting the improvement, saying "good job", "good shit", "that's my boy", like I was family. Some of the most supportive people I have had the pleasure of working with. I am writing this review because today I met a young girl that moved from Australia to pursue her dreams. She has been here less then a week and when I discovered she was brand new I couldn't say enough about the importance of getting into Anthony's class. Anthony has a way of attracting professional, supportive, passionate, like-minded, noncompetitive actors and artist. This is a beautiful place filled with fucking kick-ass actors and some of the best humans you'll find in LA and the world. Also my guy Anthony is one of the dopest, kindest dudes I've ever had the pleasure to learn from. Be warned, Anthony doesn't mess around and has a serious pet peeve for bull shit. So come to work, the fun comes with the work. Lastly, I couldn't handle the truth! Because the truth is, Los Angeles is a damn tough city and a career in acting does not happen over night, or in a year or two or 10 or sometimes 20. However, if it is your PASSION and you stick to it, opportunity will come. I wasn't ready to work that hard for the next 20 years. His class is the most comprehensive character exploration that I have experienced and I have been in many different classes over the years. Also, the structure for scene study is the best.
