I switched dentists a year ago and came to Premier Dental in Sunbury Ohio. The first trip was…read morebarely a cleaning, Images, flouride. I paid extra for the flouride treatment. After the barley cleaning and the images and dentist review they were going to escort me out with out giving me the treatment. I had to remind them/her. Upon the second cleaning it was halfazz'ed, The hygenist explained the she wanted to do a " Pan Scan " of my face. She explained it was free. I did it. Then after the dentist review again she was going to escort me out without the flouride treatment. I had to ask again forit. She did it with me standing up and missed half my mouth. Afew days later I received a bill in the mail for the pan scan. I stopped by the office for an explanation and was told " Nothing is free " by the lady at the fron desk. Please do yourself a favor and steer clean for this fly by nite place.

I wish I didn't have to change my review but I have to. My first two times at this location were…read morepleasant and I felt very safe during the early days of COVID. I get a check-up every six months and am always told my teeth are fine. Well, my most recent trip here I was told, by the hygienist, that I needed a deep cleaning and that I had pretty my bad gum disease. This came as a shock to me because the two prior times I visited this location, none of this was said. Just to put things into perspective, a deep cleaning, per the employee here, is approximately $1,000. At this point, I'm a little shocked and I asked the hygienist, "Okay, but can I go ahead and get the routine cleaning that I'm scheduled to get? I'll think about the procedure in the coming days." She told me, "In the state of Ohio, they're prohibited from doing a regular cleaning when it is deemed that a deep cleaning is needed." When I heard this, I was stunned by what she said but also by the obvious lie. I came in for a routine cleaning and she was about to send me home - only to come back two more times - for their "needed" deep cleaning. By the way: what she told me is a LIE and was confirmed by another dentist at a different practice. So, after the hygienist tells me all of this, she has the doctor come in. He looks inside my mouth for all of thirty seconds and deems: Yep, you need a deep cleaning. It was almost instant; the doctor didn't even verify and completely took the hygienist's word for it that I needed a deep cleaning. I was given no routine cleaning and was literally sent home in less than fifteen minutes. I was terribly upset that I made a trip all the way into the dentist to NOT have a routine, basic procedure done. Like I said earlier, the price quoted for the service was a bit over a thousand dollars but, because I had insurance, I would have to pay around $250 to $300 but the front-desk person could not guarantee any of this. If I didn't have insurance, I would have to pay them $1,000 out-of-pocket in order to have my teeth cleaned? What if I couldn't afford that (or the remainder that my insurance has me pay)? You're telling me you can't provide basic services because the state of Ohio won't permit you? Sure. Once all of this happened, I harkened back to my prior visit where I was forced to endure an Invisalign presentation on my previous visit. During that visit, I thought to myself, "Man, they're really trying to upswell on services." And another occasion where the dentist simply looked at my side-profile and told me that I grind my teeth and I would need an expensive mouth guard. Yep, not even looking inside my mouth, looking at the side of my head, he said this. All of these should be signs that I should've paid more attention to. I left feeling quite upset and shocked at the out-of-pocket cost that I was basically required to pay them to even get treatment. Feeling like I was being taken advantage of and lied to, I contacted another dentist and made a visit to them. Guess what? I did not need any type of deep cleaning whatsoever, according to this dentist and hygienist. They did a gum evaluation (which ranges from 1 - 6, I believe) and the numbers that came back were a a fraction of what this Sunbury location gave me. Needless to say, I was furious that I was lied to by these people. What this location also forgot to tell me is that deep cleanings can be quite painful and leave your gums inflamed for days and can cause damage occasionally. Discussing this with the new dentist, I found out that it's common for dentists to upsell services that are not needed. I verified this by reading several articles online as well. I will say that the first two visits I had were with Dr. Hodeba (maybe misspelling that) and this third and final visit was with a completely different doctor I had never seen before. Perhaps each doctor has a different level of morality and level of ethics but I'm not willing to roll the dice and hope that I get a doctor and hygienist who isn't out to take advantage of their patients. I'm staying away.

To say I'm frustrated would be an understatement. I scheduled a consultation for my 11-year-old…read moredaughter regarding an expose and bond procedure for an impacted tooth, and we waited nearly a month for this appointment. I took my daughter out of school and provided the necessary X-rays from our orthodontist, only to be informed that additional images were required. After finally seeing the doctor, I was then told that this office does not offer sedation for children and that we would need to go elsewhere for treatment. While I appreciate being informed of this, I am incredibly frustrated that this critical detail was not discussed when I initially scheduled the appointment. A few simple questions at the time of booking could have saved us both time and money. I was unaware that not all periodontists offer sedation, and this lack of communication made the experience feel misleading. To add to my disappointment, I was told--without any real concern--that I was still responsible for the estimated consultation fee, despite the fact that the office was unable to provide the necessary treatment. This entire process was a waste of time and money, and now I have start over with a different provider.

Dr. Hamal is excellent. It was a difficult case. She was surprised I had not felt more discomfort from the infection before coming in. She worked for quite a while to remove all of the decay, as it was a hot mess. She kept the area pain-free for me during the procedure. (And...bonus...I had more energy once my body was not fighting that infection.) Afterwards, she presented me with options about what I could do next. I opted for a dental implant. Her wonderful, efficient staff presented me with an accurate estimate, explaining how and why any treatment charges were slightly more than my dental coverage. (It's nice to know this information in advance.) Again, each subsequent procedure was painless. In my case, there was minimal swelling and bleeding. I'm sure each patient's gum condition and healing outcome is different, but I would trust Dr. Hamal to be able to navigate those differences. She is practical, empathetic, forthcoming...an experienced, skillful professional. I highly recommend her.
