Blue Cross automated robot is the worst! Not all questions can be answered by a robot who most times doesn't understand the question! Then for B/C to use off shore operators is an even bigger joke, since these people barely speak English or are understandable. I have been disconnected by them also.Do they know people in the U.S. are looking for jobs? Today I called B/C to find out info on the co-pays since I felt I was overcharged for a medical visit. (It used to be a $20.00 co-pay). So I called B/C and was sent to the wrong department by their automated robot dummy. When I did get someone she was in the wrong department, so she supposedly transferred me to the correct department and I was disconnected after a recording stated the "call couldn't be completed." I recalled them and again was sent to the wrong department. This lady stated she would transfer me to the correct department and again I was disconnected after a few rings. WTH is the problem with this damn company??!! Why can't I get a human to talk to and transfer me correctly to the right department where someone with half of a brain can answer my question(s)?? I finally called the town I retired from that provided this health insurance to get an answer. A lot of stupid here for a big company like B/C. CEO's make too much money and don't care. Maybe this company needs to be investigated. Customers are paying them and can't get a human to answer a phone or a question about their benefits! SAD! read more

A few days before Christmas, I received a letter from Anthem cancelling my dental insurance "because we did not receive your full premium payment on time. We're sorry but we're unable to reinstate your policy." This was surprising since I had been a customer for about two years and regularly paid my premiums near month-end. I checked my records at Bank of America's Billpay service and saw that I had not missed any payments, the most recent being on November 28th, about as expected. I thought that this would be easy to clear-up and called "Customer Service" on December 26th. This proved quite difficult After much frustration, I got through to someone called Apocalipsis Castaneda, a polite person who spoke very poor English. (By email, he is known as al48174.) I patiently sent him screen shots of my bank records showing my regular payments and confirmation numbers, and he created a case number IC8026593. He later left me voice messages which were not understandable. I followed up on January 4th and 5th asking him to contact me by email and asking for a status report, but heard nothing further from him ever again. On January 8th, I again braved the moronic "Customer Service" torture gantlet and eventually spoke with someone named Janissa Resare. She was also very polite and seemed to be well-meaning, but was very hard to understand verbally. I explained the situation and sent her my payment records. On January 9th, she asked me by email to supply copies of my checks, and I explained again that the electronic payments did not involve checks, but that I had already supplied confirmation numbers related to my payments. I also sent her copies of my bank statements showing the debits to my account in favor of Anthem Dental. On January 17, I asked for an update having heard nothing further on this. On January 18th, Janissa informed me that everything was straightened out and that I should make the January payment. On January 18th, I informed her that I had remitted my premium through Billpay. Later that day, I received am email from Anthem threatening to cancel the account that they had just reinstated. I informed Janissa and asked her to insure that my payment had been received. On January 22, I received this amazing response: "I do really apologize for that; I will be working on for your payment that you have made. I will be requesting again to E&B to track your payment. So, please don't process it through BillPay anymore because it will not route to Anthem directly. You can call us every month to process the payment or use anthem.com to process the payment. Thank you!" The next day I expressed my frustration and confusion after checking details on the Anthem website and observing its accounting chaos. As an experienced businessman, a CPA, and a former finance professor, I told her that I was seeing signs of severe operational and internal control weaknesses that should be reported to the authorities. With that, Janissa disappeared from view. At this point, I was determined to cancel my policy. I braved "Customer Service" once more and eventually spoke to someone named Gilbert (al24928), who was polite but a poor English speaker. I asked him to cancel my policy and sent him a record of my payment for January. I also told him that I was treated by my dentist on January 4th and expected to have my claim paid. Gilbert responded, "we have already initiated a request to cancel your plan. You will be receiving update through your mail or email once your plan is already cancelled." I never heard from Gilbert again. I then established a new policy with Delta Dental. Finally, I received a letter from Anthem telling me that my payment was past due and threatening to cancel my account. I emailed Gilbert and the others I had spoken with on February 24th alerting them to this situation, but never heard back. It seems clear that Anthem's business systems and internal controls are seriously flawed, and I wonder why they are allowed to be in business. read more

The Elders of Anthem Blue Cross (blasphemy) and blue shield (made of brie cheese) have the wrong idea of what insurance is. I wanted to take a second to tell them that insurance is not a garden maze at the summer palace in Vienna. Nor is it meant to make you bleed from your eyes when you come down with the common cold or the trots and are not allowed to receive treatment. I am always hear the Smashing Pumpkins song referring to a rat in a cage when I call the insurance company. When the Wagner stops playing and a voice comes on and says you are not covered in California when I was covered in Ohio makes me think that they are not aware of California's existence. They gave me two offers, one for a small upgrade they could hire someone to euthanize me or the other option was just to rot in an alley with a bottle of George Dickel Whiskey. OMG!!!! 35 minutes talking to underlings FINALLY I get to case management. Rep asks if I'm still there. I say "Yep" and I get the big, disconnect dial tone. After all the long holds and transfers. ULTIMATE SMACK DOWN!!! So I call back and get another transfer. Finally talk to someone who promised to call back Monday. I had to get a scrip filled for Tobradex. My deductible is $250 for pharmacy. Walgreen's and Walmart would both charge $227 for the scrip to satisfy my deductible. But WTF? Why is my deductible not met in October? I had plenty of scrips filled. IT SEEMS LIKE SOME ARBITRARY B.S. ! I was told in one of the many calls that some were covered and some were not. SO TRANSLATION we will deem some of your scrips as ineligible towards your deductible because we are greedy corporate backstabbers. Everyone avoided giving me a list of medications that are eligible to be applied toward the deductible. EVEN WHEN asked DIRECTLY. BTW ... YET ANOTHER ISSUE AROSE FROM ALL OF THIS... out of all the reps I spoke with no NOT A SINGLE ONE could tell me WHEN my DEDUCTIBLE RESET! Thia business should be shut down i have worked in the medical field for 34 yrs. they ate the biggest problem. The provider reps are lazy. Especially when their supervisor is related to them. They can get away with it. They pay the lowest rates to providers next to title 19. Yet their customer rates keep going up. I am ashamed to say i have Anthem through access health. That's what the state offers. I am having a hard time with them myself. Macy at member services needs another job. Like shoveling because she follows their lead in giving you a hard time. THE WORST EVER! Provider office on hold for over 34 minutes because the passive aggressive people in India put you on hold when you ask for a supervisor. They don't speak or understand English, don't know anything until they put you on hold to check their manual, speak in a voice so low that you can't communicate, put you through hell and then can't fix a problem. Now they need to "transfer" you to someone else and you have to start from scratch. OH NO, same scenario, give all the same information you gave to the last person and, guess what, same results. If you are in a position to gain coverage with another carrier...do that, This company will do anything to avoid paying a claim which is their responsibility. They are pleasant on the phone but appear to be unwilling to work with policyholders and are expert at avoiding claim payment. When one considers their profits it is nothing less than disgusting to realize that they simply do not want to pay. The coverage rules change all of the time. This was once a premier health insurer and I would say without hesitation the best carrier you could have. This company has to have the worst customer service ever. I wish there were negative stars to rate them!! Every time I have tried to call them I am waiting on the phone for hours. i called today and was on the line for close to 2 hours before I spoke to a person. They told me they would have to transfer me to another rep to help me with a billing issue. I get put on hold for another hour easily. Another person picks up and tells me she can't look that up because she is actually in Georgia and they are helping the Connecticut office out. She tells me to hold on, so she can transfer me to the right department. I tell her I hope it won't take forever as I've already been on hold for a few hours. Another hour passes by and someone else picks up and I can barely hear them and they also tell me they can't help me with my billing question. They say they will transfer me to the right person. I get put on hold yet again (good thing I was working from home and could just put the phone on speaker!!!) Finally another person picks up and I start explaining to him my issues and what I need help with. He tells me he will have to check and that he will have to put me on hold again. At this point, I'm so annoyed and I ask him what is the problem at their office and what kind of customer service do they have where people are put in hold for hours just to follow up with some simple questions. He apologizes and tells me the company is very busy with the new healthcare in the US and that he is actually located in the Philippines and that his company is working for them. I'm told I will need to be put on hold again so he can look into the matter. I figure at this point I'll probably just wait a few minutes....WRONG!!! Another hour wait on hold for some simple information. He finally gets back on the line and gives me information and can help me and give me some answers. I think every thing has been resolved -at least I hope! As they owe me a large refund as they just went and took a premium out of an account for a policy I never wanted or agreed to take as I wanted to cancel an old policy. This is not the first time I've waited on hold for a good hour or two to talk to someone at their offices. Their customer service and wait times are unreal. They should really look into providing better customer service immediately before they lose more policyholders!! I just hope they realize they need to make some drastic changes to provide better service!! I'm just thrilled at this point and I'm happy to announce I've gone with another insurance company that had better rates and has MUCH BETTER customer service that actually calls you back and doesn't make you wait on hold forever!! I pray I will never have to call Anthem back again for anything!!! Making people wait in hold for close to 5 hours for some simple information is inexcusable!! Not to mention all the other times I've called and was on hold forever! My suggestion is with the new healthcare and exchanges in the State shop around there are other companies and competition out there. We live in TN, and my husband's large company is actually self insured, but employs an independent Blue Cross administrator for their health insurance. That insurance administrator is actually in another state - - located in the same state as his company's headquarters. We see a brilliant, IN-NETWORK doctor in Connecticut (neither of the states listed above) for my young son - who has a chronic illness. This doctor has been a lifesaver and has given my son, and our whole family, a new life!! Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Connecticut is the initial "receiver" of the claim, and I was told it then gets sent on to our insurance. Well - - my insurance has no record of any claims from our doctor FOR THE PAST 7 MONTHS! The initial "receiver" of the claim - Anthem Connecticut - HAS received them - - but they have all been put "on hold" and are not being processed! ANTHEM IS BASICALLY HOLDING THE CLAIMS HOSTAGE and not forwarding them to my insurance administrator! My son has been receiving the same care for 3 years, and never a problem. We are PRE-APPROVED for treatment for another whole YEAR by our own insurance company - - yet Anthem Connecticut is still holding the claims hostage/"oh hold" - and not forwarding them to our own insurance company/Blue Cross administrator. All it takes is a quick look around the internet to see Anthem's track record of swindling providers and patients! Shame on you, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Connecticut! Awful. They cover almost nothing. Their plans are so confusing that even doctors don't know if they are in network. I've repeatedly been charged by doctors who are in the BCBS network because Anthem has denied payment. I just spent an hour on the phone with Anthem trying to figure out if they will cover urgent care services at Stamford Hospital, since the urgent care facility is called Tully, and has a different address, but part of Stamford Hospital. I am SO frustrated. I seem to have lost my physical bill for Anthem, so first, I tried to pay my bill online. My Log In information (which I know) was "unknown" in their system. Next, I tried to get my password reset, which prompted me to enter my ID number (located CLEARLY on my insurance card). Still, a message popped up saying "we do not recognize that ID number." WHAT? I have been a member since January, how is this possible that I'm not in the system? Next, I attempted to call the customer service and pay my bill over the phone. Again, the automated machine continued to tell me that I did not exist in the system, so I attempted to reach a REAL LIVE representative for the next 45+ minutes until I was so frustrated I was in tears. FINALLY, there was a representative prompt and I was able to pay my bill and I respectfully vented my frustrations to the agent who barely spoke English and didn't seem to care that I was upset. She told me she could not help me in her department so she would have to give me another number to reach for online problems. SO, I called the number. Guess what? The number was not for online help. It specifically said on the automated machine that it could not help with online issues. So, again, I dialed and dialed until I finally reached someone who could put me in the system so I do not have to go through with this again. I HATE ANTHEM. We've always received quick and good service from Anthem BCBS except for their phone service. The last call I made took one and three quarter hours just to get a human voice. Anthem needs to employ MORE customer reps or find a BETTER way to deal with customers. I suggest that the CEO/COO try to get through to a representative by using their regular channels. Anthem BlueCross BlueShield denies claims first and finds excuses for the denial later. In the benefits denial letter from Anthem, there will be a contact number, but the Anthem employee never answers that phone number or returns a voicemail. It is unethical and scandalous the way Anthem BlueCross BlueShield treats their policyholders. I encourage anyone else who is being hassled by Anthem to file complaints with the CT Department of Insurance. I signed up for one of their plans on December 23rd of last year. Naturally, because of their backlog they didn't send me any correspondence about paying my first premium until the middle of January, even though they promised me retroactive coverage until Jan. 1. I paid my first premium via their one-time payment form that they created specifically for new applicants on January 17th, right when I got it in the mail. Unfortunately, with this form, there is no way to edit your payment information once you submit it. I realized that once I submitted my payment information that I might have made a typo in my bank account number. I decided to wait a bit and if the payment hadn't posted in 10 days to call their helpline and get it straightened out. The due date was January 31st. I called their customer service line on January 28th and told the lady on the other end that I may have made an error in my bank account information. I said that I knew they were backlogged but I wanted to make sure that my payment wasn't being held up because of my error. The lady seemed a bit annoyed and assured me that my payment had been processed just fine, and to not worry about it not posting right away because they were backlogged. I took her words as a reason to stop worrying and my insurance card arrived in the mail the next day. A few weeks later, I got a rather hefty bill in the mail for February to March. They put me on a bimonthly plan without my knowledge...! But no matter, I sat down and tried to sign up on their website to pay it last night. I couldn't sign up. They said I wasn't in their database. I started to panic, knowing my payment was due in a week, and tried to pay over the phone. It was then that I found out that my insurance had been cancelled. I called their help line this morning and found out that my coverage was terminated due to non-payment of my January premium. They said there was an error in my bank account information and the payment was returned as "not found". The person I talked to seemed sympathetic when I told her that I had contacted Anthem a month ago and asked them to fix my bank account information only to be told that there was no error, that everything was fine and my payment had been processed. She said she would forward me to a health plan adviser and they would see if they could reinstate my plan, as it wasn't like I had been delinquent on purpose. She also said there was a note on my file proving that I had in fact called them a month ago to fix the error. I was put on hold for 2 hours and then disconnected. I tried calling the first number and there was a new person on the line who seemed to not even understand what I was talking about. She kept thinking I was from Mexico even though I told her I was from CT, and I have an Irish name and don't have the faintest trace of an accent so why the hell did she think I was from Mexico? She put me on hold for a half hour and I hung up on her because I couldn't even communicate my personal information to her without her messing it up, let alone get help. I tried the health plan adviser line again and prepared myself for a long wait. I was put on hold for 90 minutes. When I finally got through, the person on the other end said she would see if I could just pay my January premium over the phone to get my plan reinstated. She put me on hold, but when she came back she had forgotten what state I was from or even what I was calling for. She said she was sending me back to their CT hotline. And back I go to the first call center! I got a man on the line this time...who informed me that the lady who just forwarded me to him was, in fact, the only person who could help me and she had passed the buck to him because she didn't want to do the work. He said that she WAS the CT number, and his call center was not in CT! He said he would reconnect me to her and I told him I had been on the phone for five hours. The signal started to break up and I knew I would just be put on hold for another 2 hours, so I hung up and had a good cry. What the hell is the matter with these people?! read more

our family just signed up with them. they messed up our PCP choice. have been trying to fix it . it is impossible to get a live person answering the phone and the phone wait has been always over 30 min. no matter what time of the day I try to call them. attempted to use their website but it does not work either. called their web customer support - the same thing. they have recorded message that the web site is currently not working. from all that I can clearly see that they just don't care. unfortunately our family is stuck with them the rest of the year. do your research before you sign up with them! read more

Horrible, horrible experience! My son had an injury to his knee during his football game on 9/14/13. The doctor on the field immediately said it was an ACL/MCL injury. When he got back to campus and got an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon on Monday, he also said ACL/MCL tear, but an MRI was needed to be 100% sure. The doc sent the request to Anthem....DENIED! They said it was not medically necessary. Mind you, they made this determination without seeing that my son's knee was blown up 3x the size it normally was. We appealed with a "peer to peer" phone call between Anthem's "GENERAL MD" and our "ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON, SPECIALIZING IN SPORTS MEDICINE" and it was still denied. The reasoning was: It was not deemed medically necessary. They consider MRI's to evaluate pain of any leg joint to be medically necessary only when the pain has not gotten better with at least four to six weeks of treatment. WHAT? What are you treating? There was not even a confirmed diagnosis. A general MD overrules an orthopedic surgeon??? Without even examining my son. Unbelievable. After fighting with Anthem for two solid weeks, our secondary insurance that we purchased through the college gave the OK and covered the MRI. The results of the MRI: Torn ACL/MCL, Torn Medial Meniscus, Cartilage in bone, compression injury to lateral condyl of femur, bruised lateral tibia. WOW! Wonder how much good six weeks of treatment would do for that. Meanwhile, we wasted 3 weeks of B.S. (no pun intended) and now there is an urgency for my son to have surgery. Hopefully it will be performed in the next few days. Due to Anthem's non-interest in getting my son an MRI that could diagnose all of these injuries properly, we are now 3 weeks behind. He has had 3 weeks of severe pain, when in actuality, the surgery would have been performed right away had we had the MRI that the orthopedic surgeon requested. This is not the last Anthem will hear from me. Hoping my son has a complete recovery and does not have further injury since Anthem caused the surgery to be put off unnecessarily! I will not be continuing my health insurance policy with a company like this. read more
