We enjoyed a perfect early Valentine's Day dinner at Anson's! The scenic country ride out there is beautiful, and the staff greeted us with genuine friendliness the moment we walked in. The food was absolutely delicious--we highly recommend the pepper jack cheese appetizer, their pizza, and the cheesecake for dessert. It's clearly a local favorite; even arriving early, almost every table was filled by the time we finished. The atmosphere is great, too--it feels like the kind of spot where you'd see a row of snowmobiles parked out front after a fresh snowfall. I was shocked to hear that the Red Horse Inn is now an awesome pizza joint and bar called Ansons!! I haven't been here since I was a kid. It's in the middle of rural Carleton and brought back a lot of memories. I was in town for work and family and I dined here 3 times during my visit. The pizza and breadsticks are excellent!! They have a good beer selection and mixed drinks. For dessert the cinnamon roll breadsticks will not disappoint. Service was great every visit, everyone is very friendly. I love the laid back atmosphere too. I can't wait to return next time I'm back in town. read more

Been here twice, once to eat and once toe just have a couple drinks. Both times were really quite good. We had their pizza and it was pretty tasty and the boys really enjoyed it as well. This last time was just for drinks and the High Life's were cold and went down smooth. My wife had a chocolate Martini that was super yummy. What a great place!!! We went for the first time, yesterday, for supper. Hunter took care of us and we had a great time. Everything we had was very, very good and they sure do make some great onion rings! For fun, I asked for a vodka martini, dry, up, with olives. The Bartender did a GREAT job with it and when I complemented her on it, she said she worked before at a martini bar and that it was fun to make one :-D We were a group of five and everyone enjoyed what they ordered and what we could not finish, we took home. The menu is HUGE and varied. Will have to come back and try more things, including the Chicken Cordon Bleu pizza on the special board... wow. What a great, fun place! read more

Had a fine time at Anson's playing Name That Tune, which is apparently a big deal because the place was packed with lots of big teams! The beer was cheap and the food was roadhouse good. Big portions of midwestern favorites, burgers, salads (not the healthy kind), fajita wraps, and on and on. Everyone's food was great and everyone took about half their order home. Far and away the most interesting thing on the menu to me and my favorite item was the house made "Frickle." It's some bizarre and insane form of pizza, I suppose. The Frickle lives somewhere between an appetizer, a meal, a snack, and junk food. It is a crispy, quality dill pickle spear wrapped in salty deli ham and then cheddar cheese and then wrapped in billowy pizza dough and DEEP FRIED?! What? Yes! Served with an obligatory side of Michigan Ranch Dressing it's a crispy, chewy salty, cheesy, savory delight that's way better than you'd guess it'd be. Good on ya, Anson's. For those less adventurous, Anson's is know for their pizza on this long-time middle of nowhere roadside staple. It feels like the kind of place back in the day where you'd pull your buggy over to wet your whistle and get directions to the next town. I like that. This place is now called Anson's- I submitted for an edit. It doens't look like anything special from the oustide (I mean come on, it's literally in the middle of nowhere as far as businesses go) We were quite excited when we came in for lunch and they had such an extensive menu. They have their appetizer sectioned off- so they list seperately what they make in house vs what is pre-packaged. They batter and fry pickles, onion rings, mushrooms, etc. and something called a "Frickle".A frickle is a pickle spear wrapped in deli ham and cheddar cheese that is put inside pizza dough and is deep fried. It is served with ranch and it is suprisingly tasty! My husband and I both selected from the special menu. I had a chicken salad sandiwch on cranberry bread that came with homemade chips. Tony got a Wrangler burger which he also enjoyed. Their draft beer selection is pretty standard (Bud, But Light, Miller, Sam Adams, and Fat Tire) but the server said it changes often. They have tons of wing sauce flavors, pizza, calzones, sandwiches, stuffed burgers, and dinners. I can't wait to go there again and try something new! read more

My friend recently moved to this area, and my wife and I decided to stop here in passing. I've been to the area many times (Stony Creek Auto is right around the corner) and never even knew Anson's was there since it's in the middle of nowhere. We stopped in on a weekday night on a whim, and it was well worth it. My friend suggested the pizza, but my wife and I got burgers (and a few beers) and it was less than $30. It was kind of slow (I couldn't imagine a night where it's packed), and our server was quick and friendly. The burgers were good, and the atmosphere was great. We were in and out in an hour, and next time I'm in the area, I might stop by again. They have a very expansive menu. Also, we had no cell phone signal (Verizon), and they don't have public WiFi, so it was nice to put the phones aside and enjoy a good meal. read more

My Boss recommended this place, My husband and I decided to give it a try. We absolutely loved it!! I ordered a mini pizza hubby ordered ham & cheese with sweet potato fries. The sauce for his sweet potatoes was homemade and was delicious it tasted like frosting. My pizza was delicious and was truly homemade and the ingredients were fresh. I also tried a cup of green pepper soup and that was also wonderful. We honestly liked everything! The server Steve was very friendly and gave us great attention he is very attentive and has a great personality! This place is worth the drive and the only thing I would recommend to management is to replace the carpet. We will be back. Thanks! read more

Very delicious food. I had a stuffed pizza burger with fries. And my wife had burger sliders with sweet potato fries.
