I wanted to let Yelpers know, should you need a roofing repair, or worse yet -- a new roof, be sure to call Ansen and have them come give an estimate.
It seems as though the roofing industry is similar to the used car industry and we'll leave it at that. Ansen Roofing did a small patch on my roof back in 2011, so I brought them in for an estimate when I needed a new roof altogether.
I have a Cape Cod home as well as a small flat roof which all needed to be replaced. I'm not going to go into specifics but I had many companies come in and gave me estimates of +40% and +50% more than what the # should have been. Then they would call back the next day or hours later and drop their price substantially when I told them to walk.
Derek and Allan's estimate was exactly where it was supposed to be (I have a friend who sells building supplies, so I had a ballpark of what I was expecting). I emailed back and forth a bit and we scheduled a date to have the new roof "installed".
No money down -- no prepay -- CC accepted. Roofing materials were dropped off the day before as informed. Was told 7am starting time. Sure enough.. the fun started at 7.
They demo'ed the roof by 9:30. A well oiled machine. 80% of my plywood had to be replaced and I had major rot on the flat roof. Not only did they repair the structure (sistering in 2x4's and replacing the header on the garage), they also easily brought in additional insulation since the entire house was exposed. So much easier to add insulation when your roof is off!
Of course, I had to pay for the insulation/installation and the extra work on fixing the rot, but that is on me -- you have to figure that when you have an old roof with two layers of shingles, and a leaky flat roof, you are going to have added cost. The point is that even in the cold of winter, the entire Ansen team was willing to do the job right. It added significant time to the job ---we were cleaning up at the end of the day in the dark, with flashlights. The job wasn't complete, but it was weather tight.
About 3 or 4 guys came back on Saturday, from 7-3 or so, to finish up -- mostly cosmetic, siding and fascia work. I couldn't be more impressed. The entire team, from Allan and Derek to all the guys doing the work -- friendly, professional, and did a great job. The pictures should tell you what was going on.
Now thankfully, I'm not going to need a new roof in my lifetime, so I'm writing this so perhaps others can get a quality job, from a great company and not have to deal with the crooks in the industry. Couldn't be happier -- just wish my roof wasn't so wrecked to begin with! read more
