Day-of Coordination: Elena stood out not only on the wedding day but also in the months leading up to it. She was incredibly helpful during the planning process--offering thoughtful insight into creating a seamless timeline and even helping with ideas for decor and place settings tailored to our outdoor, beachy (and occasionally windy!) wedding. She thought of every detail, from preparing us in advance to get those dreamy photos (like the first kiss and cake cutting) to ensuring everything ran on schedule without a hitch. On the day, Elena was a true lifesaver. From the rehearsal to the ceremony and reception, I never once had to worry about where I needed to be or what was next. She kept everything moving smoothly, pointing me in the right direction while allowing me to fully enjoy the company of our guests and the magic of the day. And she always made sure we were taken care of (never without a drink in hand!). Her leadership and attention to detail made it all so effortless for us. I booked her early and we initially just did a couple meetings to discuss our vision and needs regarding coordination, vendor contracts and florals since we did not need a full-planning service, only partial. She was always upfront and gave me honest opinions especially when it came to where to splurge and save, and what could look good and what wouldn't. The last 2 months is where she really shined, helping us follow up with vendors on details, setting deadlines for me to book rentals, reviewing contracts and constantly doing sanity checks when I needed it. The day of, she came extremely prepared, everything flowed smoothly (except some technical issues on part of the venue) and she was great at going with the flow and just letting the vibe and natural mood of the day go, and fixing whatever problems I threw at her. We also had her as our florist and she truly out did herself- her prices were incredibly reasonable and she handled everything like a champ when her assistant got sick the day of the reception. She also took my back and forth floral design suggestions and changes very well, as I am quite particular on details in some areas and deferred to her expertise in others. She is excellent with both phone and email communication and is certain to make sure she is working within your comfort zone. She has built quite a rapport with San Diego's top event planning and catering services, and she shares this high quality with her clients as needed. Her strategy, though intimidating at first, makes our reflection on this event a very positive one: "I am going to front-load a lot of this stuff far in advance," she opened up with. The tasks were daunting, but looking back, we would not have done it any other way. My wife and I were up to the challenge, and completing a lot of the planning about 6-7 months in advance not only relieved stress later down the line, but allowed for Victoria to really work her magic in ensuring that every detail of our events were flawless. Victoria was incredibly flexible. She helped us plan both a wedding ceremony in Hawaii and a reception event in San Diego. A lot of resources were needed to pull both events together, and Victoria made sure that things ran seamlessly, even combating a last-minute rain storm in Maui! Victoria works closely her fiancé Paul Barnett, who works as a photographer in the San Diego area. One review on this site felt that this was a conflict of interest, but nothing could be further from the truth. Paul is a wizard with the lens and when given the opportunity to work with the thorough planning of Victoria, magic happens. She is super organized and has a tool for everything which was really nice. Being the perfectionist that I am I had to be involved in EVERY detail and Victoria embraced this and even helped calm my nerves and indecisiveness often. She has recommendations for days and will always listen to what you like and what you don't like. She has been in the business for a long time so knows pretty much everyone. She brings a team of about 4 people to the wedding and ensures that everything is running smoothly. She ran our rehearsal super quickly and efficiently and there were no hiccups during the ceremony. She really came to life in executing the vision of our wedding. We got married at Coasterra which is a a very modern, industrial vibe and I always wanted a soft romantic garden wedding. To say she married the two vibes well is an understatement. She BLEW US AWAY. When I turned the corner and and saw all the florals and the decor and the tiny touches that brought the space to life I could have cried. She really gave me the perfect wedding. In the days following our wedding, we were informed by multiple attendees of her inappropriate and unprofessional behavior. Family and friends of ours could not believe that she was our "day of coordinator"! Many of our guests witnessed her lack of attention to the details that were important to my wedding day. From the moment our vendors arrived to set up the beach deck, to the actual wedding ceremony to the start of the reception.... Her duties were neglected....Rather than assist in making sure things went smoothly and as planned....she instead told my friends who arrived early to help out that details were NOT her responsibility, she indulged in alcohol, stood from a distance on the deck and just observed the ceremony, then went on to dance inappropriately, intimidate guests, and request songs she wanted to hear to the DJ at my reception. It was very obvious that she made her priority having fun while fully neglecting the actual duty for which she was hired! Yvonne and I met the week before my wedding and went through a binder with a list of expectations and obligations for which I paid her $350 to complete. She made no mention that she was going to be incapable of fulfilling those duties. I am still appalled that she did not hold up her end of the agreement. In addition, it took her over a month to return my day-of binder to me. She first said she mailed it, then after multiple emails, she finally said it was not mailed and that she would drop it off at my condo. I should not have had to spend so much time trying to get it back from her! Furthermore, it became an even wider eye-opener when we received our wedding video and pictures from the day. She is clearly visible in the background of the video and pictures standing off to the side with a drink in her hand, grinding on our guests, and appears completely intoxicated - not acting professional at all. A true embarrassment! When I found out that she had to be asked to leave the reception, I was in disbelief! In the time since I was married, I have had 4 friends also get engaged. When they inquired about hiring a wedding planner/coordinator, rather than be able to recommend her, I had to be honest and tell them NOT to hire her. It makes me sick to my stomach to think about the fact that I paid her $350! Don't try to get a refund from Yvonne directly, file a claim with the Better Business Bureau and then go through small claims court in San Diego. Contact the Small Claims Advisor at (858) 634-1777 to guide you through the process. This is a free service. When I went through Yvonne for a refund, she tried to make me sign what she called a "refund agreement" which is pretty much a gag order to prevent myself and anyone I know, and all my wedding guests from speaking about her and her service. It was a bogus document! Also, the file she sent me had someone else's name on it... Save your $$$ and hire someone else! Message me if you want any more details of information.

When planning, I was initially matched with a planner who was newer, so it was slightly difficult to get connected to the vendors and plans I needed. However, my planner later got switched out for Sara, who is very experienced in the wedding business and connected me with affordable vendors and answered all my questions! We chose the filet mignon with prawns and pesto chicken as our entrees. I didn't try the chicken, but my filet was absolutely amazing! One thing to consider when booking city cruises, you will not have a say in your DJ when picking your package. The DJ that was chosen for us pronounced my wedding party's names incorrectly, played some songs that were on the do-not-play list, and started packing up early, which was really awful. I would've appreciated the opportunity to vet my own DJ, as I was reassured this DJ was top notch which was not the case. However, all in all, I have no regrets with choosing the Abbey as my wedding venue and would encourage others to do the same! We felt we got great value out of our package and our guests had an amazing time. The venue was gorgeous, the food was good, and everyone had fun. Thank you so much for the great experience!
