Denzil Trevethick’s Traditional Cornish Pasties

He told us that Denzil Trevethick is the best by far and he isn't exaggerating. These pasties are perfect, better than my nan's and hers were always terrific. If you want to have a good Cornish Pasty look no further and make sure to visit Ian. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! We always get one when we're down south and another for the road home! We even came out in the pouring rain for a pasty because they're just THAT GOOD!

Crab salad was OK - just lacklustre - the crab obviously fresh, but the salad merely your common or garden stock stuff - lettuce, tomato etc - but nothing wrong with it either. Obviously caters for the straight forward grab a sarnie not too fussed and that's fine - does the job. Can't comment on the pasties - unlike previous reviewer - the place did not raise that level of passion. Reasonably friendly staff and the prices low to medium - good value I suppose.

Centrally located, the Horse and Jockey provide very hearty and tasty pasties, pastries and sundries that are all very reasonably priced. Synonymous within the town and local area the Horse and Jockey additionally cater for filled rolls and baguettes that are all hand made on the premises. They even offer a facility to cater for your needs during any private functions including parties and weddings. Overall, this is a traditional local bakery that offers very inexpensive food ideal for a multitude of tasks; its reputation has been built on years and years of serving the local community.

My sister and I enjoyed getting the cream teas which comes with scones, jam, and Cornish clotted cream. Being back in the US I miss it so much. Everything is freshly baked and you can see the bakers at work at the back of the shop. I highly recommend their cheese and onion pasties and pizzas, and their jam doughnuts are to die for. All the staff are polite and helpful and even though there is normally abit of a queue it is worth the wait. Inside there are also half a dozen tables where you can sit and enjoy a nice cup of tea and freshly baked scones, a real favourite with the older residents of Looe. If you like a real fresh peppery pasty than this bakery is for you.

The oldest maker of pasties in the world - can't go wrong! A great selection with friendly staff. We both took the medium pasty with a drink deal (about 3 pounds 60 (US$5). I'm kind of obsessed with having the best of the local food in a new city, so it seemed like a no brainer! I was a tad disappointed it was so ... plain though. It's been around a looooong time, so it's a no frills joint with small, medium and large pasties. Steak and cheese and onion of course and not much else besides that. I got a medium steak and it was piping freaking hot and plenty of food to fill me up. I carried it around the corner to the beach and ate it overlooking the beautiful blue sea that is the Cornish Coast. On further exploration of the town center, I kicked myself for not walking around for diving into the first pasty/pasty shop I saw. There were a couple that looked a little more modern that I think I might have preferred (I am so, so spoiled by having the visited the amazing Cornish Pasty Company in Phoenix so much, I admit that!). But didn't have it in me to eat two pasties in two days. You can't go wrong here if tradition is what you're after, but if you like a modern take on comfort foods, you might want to try another one (there are plenty all around this area!)
